Summary
After the Diamonds attack on Earth, Pink Diamond decides to do one last thing as her former self: Go back for the playmate she abandoned over a thousand years ago in a childish imitation of maturity.
Realizing that her actions have mentally scarred Spinel, she attempts to save Spinel the heartache by having her play a new game: Play Pretend. Pink Diamond, now known as Rosie, finally takes Spinel away from her loneliness. Spinel becomes a Crystal Gem in a post-gem war Earth, and devotes herself entirely to Rosie's happiness.
Even if that means Rosie will no longer exist.

Shadow woke.
Because of course he did.
Joy.
He woke up gagging on water and vomiting up onto the shoreline he’d been unceremoniously deposited onto. A mercy, all things considered, that the water would so gently lay him ashore when it’d so mercilessly bashed him against every rock imaginable beforehand. He could have cried in relief, and if a few salty streaks ran down his cheek despite himself then…then there wasn’t a soul around to tell of his weakness.
Everything still hurt.
Worse, actually, than it did before.
If it were possible.

Immediately, Knuckles turned to look at his blue roommate, a skeptical furrow in his eyes even if he asked what he thought of anyway.
“And what does Shadow think of me, hedgehog?” the black hedgehog’s name rolled off his tongue as if he had known and used that name for a long time.
A baffled expression graced the blue hedgehog’s face, before he scoffed in disbelief with a prominent scowl on his lips.
“How come you call him ‘Shadow’ and all I got is ‘hedgehog’?!”

or Knuckles wanted to train his disciple, Wade Whipple, and along with him, an amnesiac black hedgehog came to help - somewhat.
