Sometimes Love Hurts

Chapter 31: But It's Definitely Worth It

Summary:

The happy ending we've all been waiting for

Notes:

So, I wanted to first of all apologize for the long way for this, I’ve been writing literally since I finished the last chapter but then I had some personal problems and that made me lose inspiration for a bit. Now second thing, I made some big changes in this after the last 2 episodes of Supergirl, I felt like I had to as I wouldn’t be satisfied if I didn’t and I needed to be happy with my own story (obviously) but still, I apologize in advance for all of you who might not like it or feel like it was, maybe “rushed”, I do understand, I wish I had enough inspiration to keep this going a little longer in order to develop *that* part a little more, but I know my limits and I don’t want to force myself to keep writing cause I might end up giving up on the whole thing and I don’t want that, this is my first long multi chapter fic and I love it too much to just abandon it so I did my best to make the changes make sense and look good.
Thank you all once again for sticking around this long, it means the world to me and I you enjoy this. Please let me know what you think but be gentle, I'm still a very sensitive little gay, and also send prompts if you want, now that the show is over I'll need help staying inspired to write!!

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Kara flew in through the window and saw Lena sitting on the couch with a glass of wine and the computer on her lap. “Hey, how was your first day back to work?” She asked as she walked to the kitchen.

“Honestly? Really weird.” The CEO closed her computer and laid it on the coffee table in front of her. “My mother came by to talk to me.”

“Wait wait, what?!” Kara superspeeded from the kitchen where she was getting something to drink to the living room. “And why didn’t you call me?” She asked as she sat down on the couch.

“I was going to but she didn’t do anything.” Lena knew she should have called anyway but if she was being honest, stress kinda took over and after deciding to focus fully on work for the rest of the day, she completely forgot to send a message to Kara or even Alex. “Sorry, I got so confused and didn’t think much  she left.”

“What did she want?” Kara decided it wasn’t worth it to start a fight over this, that would only get the both of them stressed out and then they wouldn’t get anything done.

“To talk to me, said she’s going back to Metropolis for a while cause she hates National City and everyone around here but will let me know when she’s back, either when she’s done with Metropolis or when Lex escapes.” Lena explained quickly, trying to remember everything Lillian had said. “She then asked to take my privet jet cause she isn’t allowed into a normal plane, can’t even buy the tickets on her name, and we kinda explode hers that time and that was what kinda broke my brain on the spot for a second.” She almost laughed after saying that, remembering how confused she was when Lillian had said that.

“She didn’t say anything else about Lex?” Kara raised an confused eyebrow, Lillian wasn’t looking and desperately trying to break Lex free? That surely was weird.

“She said that she knows we took him somewhere else but doesn’t know where and doesn’t want to know right now cause he’s changed a lot and maybe this time away will do him good.” Lena wasn’t sure herself if that sounded like something her mother would say, it almost sounded like it was just a dream. “Whatever that means.”

“Do you believe her?” It was an honest question, both her and Lena, mostly Lena sometimes though, were good judgers of character, they could tell what the person’s real intentions was basically.

“I don’t know…” Lena shook her head slightly, gripping the glass on her hand and scrunching up her eyebrows in thought. She didn’t want to say something and be wrong later, she couldn’t afford that. They couldn’t afford that, not after everything they went through in the past few months.

“Think about it, what does your heart say?” Kara could tell Lena had something in mind already but was too anxious to allow herself to say it.

“You trust me like that?” Lena sounded shocked. Kara never hid the fact that she trusted Lena with her life, but it was still hard for her to fully believe anyone would trust her, a Luthor, so much, mainly a Super.

“Of course!” Kara exclaimed, knowing that it'll still take some time until Lena stops needing this kinda of reassurance. “You know her better than any of us so if you tell me she means it, I'm with you.”

Lena nodded at that and looked back down at her hands, taking a deep breath before speaking. “Well I don’t know exactly why, but I feel like she’s telling the truth this time.” She paused for a second to organize her thoughts and put the glass that was now empty on the table. “Everything she said, like, that she knows eventually Lex will find his way out and that she knows I'm already preparing for when that happens…” She shook her head, not even believing herself for a second but knowing that she had thought about this a lot and it wasn’t just hope, it actually made sense to her. “it’s weird but I truly believe she means it, that she really just wants a break from National City and everything around here. She hasn’t been herself since Lex started working by himself and keeping things from her. It's almost like she’s… sad. Never thought she was capable of having emotions.”

“Me neither, humans are confusing, your family even more.” Kara said without really thinking before she heard Lena laughing under her breath. “No offense, they’re just… you know.”

“No, none taken, they really are… something.” Lena shook her head and rolled her eyes.

“Alright, so what do you want to do?” Kara asked.

“Maybe we can plant a bug on the plane just so we know exactly where she goes, just in case, and if the bug stops working we’ll know she’s up to something.” Lena explained her plan but she was still nervous, afraid at any moment Kara was going to change her mind and tell her she’s crazy for trusting her mother like that.

“Ok, sounds good to me.” Kara nodded and finished the juice she had gotten earlier and took both her cup and Lena’s glass to the kitchen. “But we need to tell everyone else, just so we’re prepare in case of an emergency.” She said as she superspeeded back.

“Yeah, I know. Let's do that.” Lena sighed and reorganized her thoughts once again, already thinking about their next step.

Seeing that, Kara decided to act immediately instead of waiting until the next morning like she was originally planning to. “Alex’s still at the DEO, so we can run there now if you want.” She knew they needed to rest but she also knew Lena wasn’t going to sleep until they at least had a proper plan set with the entire team.

“Do you think she’ll believe me?” Lena looked up, eyes big and shiny, she was still so nervous and she hated it. “Cause I mean, my family isn’t exactly trustworthy.”

“Well, I won’t lie, that’ll probably be a bit complicated but you know how to make yourself be heard so we have that on our side.” Kara smiled reassuringly and brushed a strand of hair that came loose from Lena’s ponytail behind her ear.

“Guess so.” Lena fidget nervously but nodded anyway, wanting to go and get everything started as soon as possible.

“Hey, I'll be with you the entire time and regardless of how anyone reacts, I'm on your side.” Kara kept reassuring her in every way possible, knowing she was gonna do it anyway but wanting the girl to know she wasn’t going to back out and leave her alone to figure it all out by herself. “I've got you babe.”

Lena nodded. “Thank you.” She sighed and smiled, slightly more relaxed now. “Alright, let’s go.” She got up and got her coat, waiting for Kara to get her stuff so she could fly them to the DEO.

“So, let me see if I got it right,” Alex started pacing around the room while trying to process what Kara and Lena had just said. “you two want to hand a private jet to Lillian Luthor so she can, allegedly, go away to Metropolis?” She raised an eyebrow and stared between Lena and Kara.

“Well,” Kara shrugged. “yeah…” She looked back at Lena who was looking down at her hands.

“I know it sounds crazy but I thought this through before coming here.” Lena said nervously but not backing out.

“Ok…” Alex shook her head and sighed, pinching the bridge of her nose in frustration. “I don’t know if I should go with ‘what the hell’ or ‘are you insane?’ so, I'm gonna let one of you pick.” She looked back up, staring intently at Kara and then shifting to Lena.

“Let her explain, Alex, come on.” Kara said with an annoyed tone rolling her eyes.

“Alright, ok.” Alex raised both hands and sat down on one of the chairs. “Just be quick cause it’s late and we all need to go home, including the two of you.”

“Ok.” Lena went to sit in front of Alex and Kara stood by them. “I truly believe that that’s all she wants this time. It sounds insane but, while she was talking, I seriously felt like she’s just tired of everything around here and want to go away.” Upon seeing that Alex still looked unsure, she straighten up, starting to speak more firmly to show that she knew what she was saying and wasn’t trying to cut around corners to test things out and see what would happen. “Lex has changed a lot, he’s working alone more often, leaving her out of things and for Lillian, her golden son not listening and not letting her work with him anymore is the worse thing that could happen, she’s really disappointed, she’ll obviously never say it out loud to me but, I can see it in her eyes.” The CEO paused to watch the director’s reaction, she seemed to be paying more attention now so she kept going. “And also, she never said she was done and that’s her thing, to show off, so I don’t think she’d come to me to talk about going back to Metropolis, her style would be to simply pretend she doesn’t care and act behind our backs, coming to talk to me like that calls my attention, therefore calls all of you guy’s attention and that’s a lot of unnecessary focus on her.” She sighed and dropped her shoulders a bit as she finished explaining her point. “ So, yeah, I think letting her go away would be good for everyone, we’d finally get the break we all need for at least a few months.”

“And Lena also gave the idea of planting a bug, a tracker on the plane so we can control where she’s going and also, if she gets rid of it it'll mean she was up something after all and we’ll know immediately and can prepare for it.” Kara added.

“You really trust your instincts on that one?” Alex asked, looking into Lena’s eyes.

“Yes.” Lena nodded not looking away, she was away less nervous now that the talk was done and she had managed to say everything she needed.

“Absolutely sure?” Alex asked once again, it’s not that she didn’t trust Lena, this was just a delicate situation and they all needed to be 100% sure of what they’re doing as the Luthors were… well, extremely complicated people.

“Yeah, I'm sure.” Lena said, voice firm and sure.

Alex then looked at Kara who also nodded to show that they’re both on the same page. “Ok then, let’s do this.” She said and got up.

“Really?” Lena was just a bit shocked that it didn’t took too long to convince Alex, she expected to have to sit there with Kara for a long time before the director would even consider trying her plan.

“Yeah, you’ve proven yourself to be trustworthy many times, and you also doubt and question everything which means you thought about this a lot before even allowing yourself to believe it.” Alex said. “Of course I still think this is crazy, but we trust you so, if that’s what you think we should do now, let’s do it.” She finished with a smile as she started gathering her things.

“Thank you, for trusting me like that.” Lena smiled back and looked over at Kara who was also smiling at her.

“Of course. Come back here tomorrow, I’ll get one of our tracking devices and send one of the agents I trust to install it in the plane and we’ll get everything ready as soon as you two arrive in the morning, sounds good?” Alex made her way to the door and opened it so they could walk out.

“Sounds great.” Lena nodded again. “Thank you, Alex.”

“No problem, we’re all in desperate need of a break and if this is what we need to do to get at least a month or two off, at least from, well, Lillian.” They started making their way to the entrance. “One less stress source is better than nothing.”

“Yeah, I can’t remember the last time I had full peaceful night of sleep.” Kara said with a tired sigh and a little yawn.

“Alright, let’s try to get at least a bit of rest today, ok? Tomorrow will be a long and full day” Alex said as she started putting her helmet on.

“Yeah.” Both Kara and Lena said at the same time.

“Alright, you two behave. See you tomorrow.” Alex started her motorcycle and waved at the girls before leaving.

“Ready to go home?” Kara asked.

“Yes please.” Lena wrapped her arms and legs tiredly around Kara as she started floating them up before flying away to their house.

“We’re home.” Kara said quietly less than 5 minutes later. “You up?” looking down she saw Lena’s eyes closed but she knew the woman was still awake because of her heartbeat.

“No.” Lena basically whispered back, eyes closed and sleepy sigh escaping her lips.

“Well, I need to shower before going to bed so…”

“I can wait for you.” Lena lazily lifted her head and yawned. “Then we can go to sleep together.”

“You don’t have to, you’re clearly exhausted.” Kara smiled and carefully set Lena down.

“It's ok, I want to wait up for you. I'm just this tired right now cause I'm not used to working all day anymore.” The CEO said while rubbing her eyes, trying to wake herself up a little more.

“Maybe you shouldn’t work all day like that anymore. Or at least not every single day.” Kara said as they made their way to the bedroom. “I know being a CEO means you have a whole lot to do but you also need to learn to ask the people who work for you to, well, work for you sometimes.”

“I don’t trust them to do my things.” Lena said simply and started changing into more comfortable clothes.

“They’re trained by you, I'm sure they know what they’re doing.” Kara sighed, Lena was so incredibly stubborn, it was both adorable and incredibly frustrating sometimes. She loved it though. “I'm not saying to hand them the big projects and important interviews, but the smaller things that you usually have throughout most of the day, you know? Cause if not, then why hire and teach them at all?”

“I guess. I'll see, but go shower now please, I'm tired.” Lena said as she sat on her side of the bed and picked up her phone.

“Alright, I'll be right back.” Kara rushed to the bathroom.

“Lee?” Kara walked into the room less than 10 minutes later and smiled at the sight of Lena half sitting on the bed with her phone laying on her chest, she was probably reading her emails, as she always does before bed, and fell asleep.

Kara carefully moved Lena’s hand to get her phone and put it on the nightstand to charge before gently moving her so she was laying down, and the fact that the small brunet didn’t even stir showed how exhausted she really was. The hero then superspeeded to get dressed in her pajamas and carefully laid down on her side of the bed, wrapping her arms gently around Lena to keep her close as they slept.

Lena woke up before her alarm the next morning and looked over her shoulder to see Kara with a hand under her cheek, still deep asleep and snoring softly. She smiled at the sight and turned around completely to lay on her back, stretched her arms and rubbed her eyes before carefully moving Kara’s arm from around her stomach in order to get to and go the kitchen to get the coffeemaker started while she took a shower and brushed her teeth to get ready for the day.

After she was done, she went to get dressed into her working clothes while waiting for the coffee to be ready.

“Why are you up so early?” A sleepy voice came from under the blankets just as she finished getting dressed.

“It'll be a long day and I want to be ready.” She said and sat on the bed. “You should get up too, come on.” pulling the blanket away from Kara’s face. “The earlier we get started, the earlier we’ll be done.”

“Five more minutes.” Kara groaned and covered her face with her arms.

“I'm making bacon and eggs for breakfast.” Lena said quietly and crossed her arms with a smirk.

“I'm up!” Kara instantly got up and superspeeded to get changed and brush her teeth.

Lena laughed and got up to go finish breakfast for them to eat before leaving.

“Where are we going?” Kara Asked as they walked outside to the balcony. “I think it’s better for the both of us to go to the DEO together but, if you want to go to L-Corp I can take you. Though I'll get a few agents to stay with you, I don’t want to do everything by yourself.”

“Don’t you think you’re being a little dramatic?” Lena rolled her eyes.

“Nope, we can never be too careful.” Kara shook her head. “So?”

“Let’s go to the DEO to go over the plan first like we decided yesterday, then I'll go to L-Corp to work and call my mother.”

“Alright, sounds good.” Kara picked Lena up and flew towards the DEO as fast but carefully as she could. “I'm still sending a few agents to L-Corp.”

“We’ll talk about it later.”

They arrived about 3 minutes later and J’oon immediately took them to the meeting room.

“You guys are earlier than I expected.” Alex said, getting up from the chair she was sitting at the end of the table they had in the middle of the room.

“Lena woke me up before the sun had even finished rising,” Kara said exasperatedly. “we just didn’t got here even earlier because I was half asleep while having breakfast.”

“She’s being dramatic. I woke up before six but I when I got her up it was almost six thirty.” Lena rolled her eyes at Kara.

“See? Middle of the night!” Kara lifted both arms as if to show how much of an absurd it was for Lena to have gotten her up so early.

“Oh no, you poor thing.” Alex did a mocking pout at Kara and rolled her eyes. “You done? Can we focus on work now?” She asked.

“Yes, let’s do this.”

“Ok, so the bug is already planted and running, I'm gonna give you a device that you can use to check on it whenever you want, it’s possible to hear and see what’s happening in there and where the plane is at any time.” Alex walked to the other side of the room and came back with a small device that kinda looked like a phone and handed it to Lena. “If Lillian tries to get that out or turn it off somehow, this device will let you know and you need to call us immediately.” She said and sat back down on her sit. “Hopefully nothing will happen though, we all deserve a break.”

“Sounds great. Am I good to go now then?” Lena asked, already getting ready to leave.

“One last thing,” Alex got up once again. “just to be on the safe side, we modified these comms that you use to talk to Kara slightly so we can monitor the your call with Lillian, to hear everything she’s saying basically in real time, as soon as that is done though, you can get rid of these and go back to the normal ones you already have. I don’t need to monitor you and I definitely don’t want to hear your conversations with Kara.” She did a disgusted face and shook her head.

“Oh no, you really don’t.” Kara smirked and Lena punched her arm as she blushed.

“Ew.” Alex pointed to Kara and closed her eyes before sighing and looking up again. “Anyway, that’s pretty much it, we’re all just hoping for the best now but getting ready for anything.”

“Alright, I'm doing the same.” Lena said and looked over at Kara who nodded.

“Good. You two can go then.” Alex got up and walked towards the door, opening it and waiting for Kara and Lena to walk out before walking out herself. “If you need anything, just call.”

“Thank you.” Both women said at the same time and left.

“Please be careful.” Kara said as soon as they made it to L-Corp.

“Kara, stop worrying so much.” Lena turned around to stand before Kara and touched her face softly. “You need to calm down, ok? You’re stressing yourself out for nothing, save your energy.” She smiled. “I'll be ok and by tonight we’ll be finally have some peace, at least from my family, alright?”

“Yeah, I know, I just can’t help but worry.” Kara’s nails were digging into her palm, if it wasn’t her powers, they’d probably be bleeding now. “I'll hang around this area just in case.”

“Ok, if that’s what you need.” Lena knew it was useless to discuss when Kara was this anxious, in these situations the best thing they could do was to let her do her things in her way and soon enough she’d be alright again. “I love you.” She stood on her tiptoes to give Kara a kiss.

“Love you too. I'll pick you up at nine.” Kara said and flew away.

Lena waited until Kara was out of sight and finally walked into her office. She walked around her desk and went outside to let Jess know she had already arrived and was ready to start the day so all calls could be passed to her and all the meetings they had to postpone yesterday were still on now.

Walking back inside she sat at her desk and stared at her phone. She needed to call her mother now, it was what they’ve prepared for but now that it was time to do it, she felt extremely nervous.

Maybe nervous was an understatement, she was scared. Scared that something would go wrong. Scared that she had been wrong all along and her mother had fooled her once again. If that happened, she had no idea how she’d react, or even if she’d be able to forgive herself for it. Kara would probably understand, the woman was too good for this world, but Alex would most likely be really angry at her, rightfully so, and Lena knew at this point she couldn’t live with that, she loved Alex and all of her other friends too much. She thought this would never happen but they all had managed to help her trust people again and now it wasn’t even possible to imagine her life without them in it, she’d be extremely devastated.

Lena sighed and closed her eyes, bringing her phone up to forehead and gripped it with both hands, trying to prepare herself to make the call.

She finally pressed on her Lillian’s contact number and nervously waited for her to pick up.

Lena.” Lillian answered almost immediately.

Mother.”

Have you thought about my proposition?” Lillian said with a bit of a sarcastic tone.

It wasn’t exactly a proposition now, was it?” Lena said with an equally sarcastic tone. “But anyway, I have a few questions before.”

“I'm already starting to regret coming to you.” You could almost hear the eye roll from how annoyed she sounded.

“You’re so dramatic.” Lena rolled her eyes. “I need to know for real why you’re leaving.”

I’ve already said, I'm going because I want to get away from National City for a while, I need a break from this… place.” She paused for a few seconds. “I really don’t know what else to tell you.”

How do I know you’re telling the truth?”

You don’t, you'll have to trust me on this one.” Lillian said simply, earning a sarcastic laugh from Lena.

“Ha, that’s rich coming from the woman who taught me to not trust anyone ever. The CEO said and shook her head in disbelief.

“And I stand by it, but sometimes you'll be faced with certain situations where you'll simply have to trust someone and wait to see what happens.”

I don’t know what I should take from this.” Lena scrunched up her eyebrows in thought.

I'm exhausted, Lena, I'm not going to fight you.” Lillian sighed tiredly, which shocked Lena even further. “You don’t want to help me? That’s fine, I'll figure something out by myself, I just need to get out of here cause honestly. I can’t handle this place and these people anymore.”

Are you ok, mother?” Lena leaned back on her chair, eyebrows still scrunched in pure confusion.

Lillian laughed at that, clearly caught by surprise by that question. “Do you actually care?”

“Honestly? I don’t know, I'm extremely confused right now.” Lena looked down at her hands, her thoughts were running wild trying to process what was going on. “You don’t sound like yourself.”

And what’s that supposed to mean?”

You don’t sound like a crazy psychopath.” Lena said, only half sarcastically, her mother really did sounded different.

Wow, thank you” She laughed again, but this time a more forced laugh. “Well, there’s not much to say, I guess I'm tired and apparently not doing a good job hiding it this time. It’s probably these stupid people, my entire being is rebelling against it all.”

“Now that drama sounds more Luthor like.”

“Are you gonna keep wasting my time?” Lillian sounded even more annoyed now. “What are we doing here?”

“I'm making sure I'm not making a mistake.”

And apparently by the time you make up your mind it'll already be time for me to come back.” And there was the eye roll ‘tone’ again.

And there she is again. I better not regret this.Lena had a mix of anger and confusion inside of her, angry that she was confused was a problem too, she hated not being sure of where she stood and where she had to go.

“You need to work on your scary tone Lena, you’re not intimidating anyone like this.” The sarcasm was back and Lena was officially done with the whole thing.

“I don’t have anymore time to waste, we’re done.” She rolled her eyes with a annoyed sigh. “I'm assuming you know where to go to get it”

Yes, by your brothers old lair.” Lillian said simply.

I just don’t understand why not just go ahead and steal it, if you knew where it was, instead of going through all this.” Something was so clearly wrong here and with each passing minute Lena was getting more frustrated for not being able to figure it out.

I'm sorry for trying to do the right thing for once dear, won’t happen again.”

The fact that the sarcasm now was said with an slightly broken time and followed by a tired sigh was what made Lena stop for a second and change route to where the conversation was going. “Alright, let’s drop the act and be actually honest for a second here, what’s going on with you?”

Lena please…” At that Lena was now completely sure something was wrong, it felt like they’re in a different dimension or something and Lilian wasn’t… well, the Lillian they knew.

“Come on, you’d never come to me for something like this, never, you’re far too proud for that so, something is clearly wrong.”

Lillian sighed and stayed quiet for a minute which puzzled Lena even more, her mother was never speechless and never stopped to think like that, she always had an instant reply, mainly for her, anything to make her shut up and feel like shit so she wouldn’t try to fight back anymore, but not this time apparently. “Before you moved your brother to this new place, I managed to get in contact with him, I was going to get him out so we could both go back home but all he said to me was that he didn’t want my help with that.” She started with a low tone but eventually she managed to bring her voice back to normal. “I told him to get you away from those people, that alien, so the three of us could work together again but he said that you’re too far gone and needed to be stopped in the same way Supergirl does and when I said we can’t do that to family, that he should bring you back and we’d figure out then, he said didn’t want me to be involved in anything related to him ever again, that he was going to figure himself out from now on and he’d prefer to stay locked up forever than to be helped by me after that betrayal.” She paused once again for a few seconds. “He promised not to kill me if I didn’t try to stop him though.” She tried to laugh but even she knew that had been a joke of an attempt. “So nice of him.”

“So that’s why you’re planning to come back when he escapes and why you made sure to tell me to have a plan ready for when he did?” Lena was in shock and she couldn’t even hide it, this was far too weird. “I’m… he never even told us that you had contacted him…” She wasn’t sure what should be said now.

I imagined he wouldn’t, you weren’t supposed to know any of this.”

I don’t even know what to say. This is the biggest plot twist in my life.” Lena said, mostly to herself as she tried to make sense of what her mother had just said.

That’s one way to call it.” Lillian then cleared her throat, acting like she hadn’t said everything she had just said. “Well, am I allowed to go now?”

“Mother, we can help you.” For a second Lena forgot exactly who she was talking to, forgot the fact that, even if by some miracle her mother accepted her help, there was no way she’d get the DEO team to help her.

I don’t want their help. The DEO would never help me anyway,” Her mother voiced the thought she just had. “I just want to leave, I'll figure myself out.”

“If he comes for you-” Lena started but was immediately interrupted.

I can handle myself.” Lillian said firmly, not angrily though, which was what Lena was used to.

“Fine, do whatever you want then.” Lena was mad, she had no idea how to go about this situation and the fact her mother refused to cooperate wasn’t helping, though she knew she should’ve expected that. “I have my own things to do anyway.”

Thank you.” Lillian sighed, relieved that that discussion was done. ““Be careful, Lena, I know you’re going to try something against your brother eventually. From now on focus on yourself a little more, be yourself, but be careful cause unfortunately this will forever be your life.”

Hearing you talk like a normal mother is disturbing.” The CEO felt like she was about to cry, she didn’t know if it was because she was confused, overwhelmed or angry, she just knew this was a lot to take in.

Lillian laughed again. “I tried to save your brother and I know so did you for many years, we’re both free from that now.” She sounded broken, but kept going without any pauses this time. “Enjoy this free time as much as you can cause your brother is angry and when he manages to escape, it'll be bad so rest and enjoy this while it lasts.”

“You’re actually starting to scare me now.” Lena looked around the room, unconsciously expecting something to happen, the situation was far too weird to be real, right?

“I love you, Lena, I'm sorry for everything I’ve ever done to you in the past, hope one day you can forgive me.”

“I-mother?” Lena looked down at her phone and saw that the call had ended.

“Lena!” Kara flew in suddenly a second later and stood by her side. “Alex told me to come check on you, I came as fast as I could.” She looked over at Lena who was still staring at her phone. “Lena?” The hero called again and knelt in front of her. When the CEO looked up, she was shocked to see that her eyes were full of tears. “Hey hey, what's wrong? What did she say?” She turned Lena’s chair around so they’re facing each other.

“I'm confused.” The CEO’s eyebrows were scrunched up in thought.

“What happened?” Kara was starting to get confused herself, Lena was fine when she left and she expected the woman to get upset at her mother after talking to her but this? This she was not prepared for at all.

“You didn’t hear my conversation with her?”

“No, only Alex did.” Kara shook her head and got up. “Should I call her?” She got up and waited for Lena to reply but the woman seemed to be lost in thought. “Baby, talk to me!”

“Remember when I used the truth seeker on her?” Lena spoke in a low tone.

“Yeah, you said there was something wrong with it cause Lillian had managed to lie anyway.” Kara decided it was better to sit down for this but realized Lena wasn’t going to move from her chair so she went to the other side of the desk and sat on one of the chairs.

“Yeah well, apparently she didn’t.” Lena half laughed, eyes still unfocused. “I don’t know how to deal with the fact that Lillian really loves me,” She said even more quietly. “and she did even before the whole issues with Lex, I can’t process it.”

“I'm not understanding what’s going on.” Kara said, she kept watching Lena but if it felt like she was speaking in codes or something, it was impossible to understand.

“Me neither.” Lena shook her head. “Kara, she’s-Lillian is hurt.” She looked up with shiny eyes, still holding back tears.

“What? She fought someone?” Kara was getting more confused by the second.

“No, she’s emotionally hurt.” The CEO looked down at her phone. “She’s broken, Lex said some stuff and…” She shook her head again. “I’ve never thought she was capable of feeling anything so hearing her like that was so weird, so confusing.” Looking back up she saw Kara looking at her with that crinkle between her eyebrows.

“What the hell happened?” The blonde asked, starting to get even more nervous.

“She said that when we got him the first time and kept him at the DEO, she managed to get in contact with him and was gonna get him out but he refused her help.” Lena paused for a second and finally dropped her phone back on the table, knowing that there was no way her mother was going to call back now, or ever probably after what she had said. “Lex got angry when she told him to get me so we could all be together again, he said that I'm too far gone now so I need to be stopped in the same way as you now-”

“He wants to kill you now?” Kara interrupted.

“Apparently, yeah.” Lena half nodded. “He spent years trying to get me away from you and back on his side, I guess now he finally saw that that’ll never happen, I'll never go back, and he got really angry.”

“Fucking Rao.” Kara got up and started pacing around the office, trying to get her anger under control.

“He said that he doesn’t want Lilian to be involved in anything related to him ever again and that he’d rather be locked up forever than to accept her help, all because she told him he can’t kill me.” Lena watched as Kara walked in circles but didn’t know what she should do.

“I think we should go back to the DEO and talk.” Kara stopped her pacing and looked over at Lena.

“I can’t, not right now, I have interviews I already postponed, can’t do that again.” Lena then remembered the comms and took them out, handing them to Kara so she could take them back to the DEO.

“Then call as soon as those are done so I can get you and we can go straight there instead of going home.” Kara was already exhausted but there was no way she’d go back home without hearing this whole story before and she knew that at least Alex needed to be there too even though she had already heard that conversation.

“Ok.” Lena nodded and straighten herself, running her hands over her face and blinking the tears away.

Kara took a few deep breaths, getting rid of the bit of anger still sitting on her chest. “Are you ok?” She walked back towards Lena.

“I don’t know, I'm really really confused, don’t know what I'm supposed to think.” Lena sighed, rubbing her eyes tiredly to stop the insistent tears from even forming.

“You’re not ‘supposed’ to think anything, there’s no right or wrong feeling.” Kara spoke softly and caressed Lena’s cheek.

“I wish someone could actually understand what’s going on so they could explain it to me.” Lena said in a quiet and frustrated voice.

“You sure you can’t cancel the meetings?” Kara asked, she really wanted to get this over with as soon as possible.

“No.” Lena shook her head, eyes closed as Kara was still caressing her cheek. “I need the distraction anyway.” She said and lifted her head. “I'll ask for the day off tomorrow.”

“Alright then, that’s good.” Kara nodded, relieved that she wouldn’t have to fight to get Lena to get some rest on the following day. “I'll go then but please call as soon as you can leave, we need to talk about this.” Kara said and pulled her hands back to her side.

“I promise I won’t.” Lena said without looking up from the computer anymore.

“Thank you. I'll let you work now.” Kara got the message that Lena wasn’t in the mood for too much affection anymore right now so she leaned over to give her a gentle kiss on the side her head and whispered a little “See you later.” before leaving and flying back to the DEO, needing to go talk to her sister.

Kara made it in less than 2 minutes and made her way around the place, trying to find Alex who was in one of the offices. “What the hell happened?” She said as soon as she walked in.

“You’re asking me?” Alex looked up and stared at Kara for a second. “I never understood the Luthors and at this point I expect basically anything from them, but this?” She gestured vaguely. “Can’t say I ever saw that coming, honestly.”

“I'm bringing her here later so we can talk about this but I need to know what I'm dealing with cause she was acting really weird when I got there.” Kara said while nervously playing with her cape.

“Well, Lena will probably explain everything better but basically, pretend this was a different reality where Lillian was a great mother.” Alex said and looked back down at the computer in front of her.

“I cannot imagine that.” Kara shook her head and stood behind her sister.

“Me neither, but apparently that’s the vibe she was going for.” Alex looked back at Kara. “And weird enough, it didn’t sound like she was lying. I'm looking into the system now to see if I can find the footage from when she called Lex.”

“Fucking Rao,” Kara’s hands curled into fists. “why does everything needs to be so complicated for us?” She started pacing around the room.

“I ask myself the same thing every single day.” Alex said with a tired tone.

Kara went to one of the chairs, sat down and laid her head on her folded arms on the table, closing her eyes and sighing tiredly.

“This might be a good thing though.” Alex said, trying to ease some of her sister’s frustration. “I'm not one to hold onto hope like you but… I don’t know, this doesn’t feel like it'll become hell by tomorrow, know what I mean?” She asked, hoping Kara would relax a bit.

“I guess so.” Kara lifted her head. “I think I'm more nervous for Lena than anything else, she was really worked up when I got there.” She explained.

“I know. I sent you there because I felt like she’d need some help.” Alex turned the computer she was working on off. “Her voice started to waver while still on call with Lillian and Lena’s not the kind of person to break like that.”

“No, she usually keeps herself up, turns cold for as long as she needs and only relaxes once she gets home.” Kara said, remembering all the times Lena would get home seemly fine and would suddenly break during dinner or while they’re getting ready for bed, but most days the woman was like a rock. “And even then sometimes she keeps that up for days.” She finished her thoughts out loud. If she was being honest, most of the times Lena tried to keep that act up and she was the one that needed to go around it to figure out which button they needed to push to make the CEO relax and talk about things.

“This was really a big shock, even I didn’t know how to react and I was just listening to them, I'm not part of the family.” Alex shook her head, she was still trying to process everything she had heard.

“The poor thing.” Kara said quietly.

“We should probably get something to eat while waiting for her, God knows when she’ll be done.” Alex said after looking at the time and realizing it was way past 11am.

“I'm not really hungry.” Kara laid her head back down.

“I know, but you need to eat, we all do. Come on.” Alex got up and waited for her sister by the door. “Let’s go, we’ll eat something and then you can help me look into the system to see if we can get the audio from when she called Lex, Lena will probably want to see that too.”

“Fine, let’s go.” Kara finally got up and followed her Alex outside.

3 hours later Kara received a message from Lena and went to pick her up, coming back in less than 5 minutes. “Alex’s already waiting for us in the meeting room.” She said quickly and lead Lena there.

They all spent the next hour watching the footage Alex had found and listening to Lena explaining everything, mostly Kara as Alex already knew most of what had happened.

“That’s… Oh my Rao…” Kara said just as Lena finished and sat down besides her.

“I don’t know what to do, if all that is true she’ll needs help.” Lena was fidgeting with Kara’s cape.

“She’ll never accept Supergirl’s nor the DEO’s help.” Alex pointed out the obvious, they all knew that but there was not much else she could say.

“I know, but if in the future something happens to her, I'll know it’s because of me and I'll feel so guilty.” Lena gestured nervously and Kara reached to hold her hand.

“I don’t think the DEO will be too keen on helping her either way, but I promise you that you can count on me to at least try to help.” The hero smiled softly.

“Promise?” Lena looked up, still holding Kara’s hand.

“I promise, I'll do everything in my power to help when you ask.” Kara caressed Lena’s hand with her thumb.

“Do you guys actually believe that she loves me?” Lena was nervously playing with the Kara’s hand now. “I'm don’t know what to think.”

“I don’t know much about her but it really sounded real to me.” Alex didn’t know what else she could say, it really seemed like this was all real but at the same time it felt like… a dream, maybe. “She sounded completely completely.”

Lena nodded at her and turned her eyes to Kara. “What do you think?” She needed to hear what Kara had to say now that she knew what had happened.

“Well, I think she didn’t want to say it before because she felt like confessing that she liked you would mean that it didn’t hurt when Lionel cheated on her.” Kara started, taking a few seconds to choose her words. “For years you’re just the constant reminder of his mistake, looking at you brought her a lot of pain and we all know she didn’t when tried to hide all the anger, but at some point, after Lionel died I guess, she started seeing you for…” She looked around the room in search of the right words. “Well, you, but she didn’t like that feeling, it was probably really confusing to her, so she turned that into even more anger and held onto Lex until he left her too.” She then moved closer, feeling Lena starting to fidget again. “When he did all this, the betrayal, it broke her entire world and she was left with only the actual truth instead of the one she made up and held onto for all these years, and she was forced to face it cause otherwise she’d die alone and would have lived a lonely life full of lies and I think that, even for someone like her, would’ve been the worse death possible.” She concluded.

“Kara worded it really well, that actually makes a lot of sense.” Alex said as soon as Kara was done. “Going through what Lillian went through surely isn’t easy but instead of signing up for therapy or at the very least talking it out with friends, she decided to invest in a villain life with her sociopath son like some fucking action movie.” She shook her head and got up. “There’s not much we can do with this though, it is what it is and you should take her advice in my opinion.” She went back to working on her reports for the day.

“I still can’t believe it…” Lena said so quietly only Kara could hear.

“It's ok, it'll take a while.” The blonde smiled. “We’ll just enjoy this for now, right?”

“Yeah, I needed this.” Lena nodded. “We needed this.” She looked between Kara and Alex.

“We sure did.” Alex said with a relieved sigh. “We really really did. Like we said before, one less source of problem is already so much better than nothing.” She said without really looking up from the papers in front of her.

“Yeah.” Kara said.

“You’re really willing to help Lillian, if it's ever necessary?” Lena asked, looking at Kara again.

“Of course!” Kara nodded. “I believe everyone deserves a second chance, an opportunity to change and help with their new lives. Not everyone agrees with me but the amount of times I’ve helped people turned their lives around for the best beats the times I was fooled by someone’s lies just to get something from me.” Kara lowered her voice and came closer to Lena again. “I’d rather fall from believing someone and doing everything on my power to help them than standing tall and watching the person fall apart and lose their battle because no one was there to help them.”

“Kara has always said that, since we’re kids.” Alex smile from behind the computer she was using to check everything they had done today. “I don’t always agree with her, in fact most of the times I don’t, but that’s how she is and I'm honestly proud of her for not giving in to disappointment whenever something goes wrong.” She said looking over at Kara.

“Yup.” Kara nodded proudly. “If I die from gambling on love and compassion, that’s a worthy death in my opinion, has always been.”

“You’re away too good for this world, we don’t deserve you.” Lena touched Kara’s face, gently tracing the lines on her cheeks.

“Yes you do, everyone deserves it.” Kara got a hold of Lena’s hand. “Earth definitely needed someone to teach them about compassion but I'm aware not everyone wants to learn. I'm still willing to try and I do so happily.” She lifted the CEO’s hand up to give it a soft kiss.

“Don’t even try to understand how she works, just accept it.” Alex said when she saw Lena was about to say something and knowing it was useless to discuss with hopeful Kara. “Trust me, you won’t win this fight.”

“I'm ok with losing this one.” Lena said with a smile, still looking at Kara as they held hands.

“If you two are going to start being disgusting please leave, I still have a lot to do today and I can’t afford getting sick right now, I have my own girlfriend I really want to see and sleep with tonight.” Alex did a disgusted face while pointing at both Lena and Kara.

“Shut up, Alex.” Kara said and Lena laughed.

“Do either of you need anything else?” The director asked.

“No,you?” Kara asked Lena who shook her head. “No.” She looked back over Alex.

“Alright then please come sign the report from what we did with Lena and go home to rest and be disgusting far away from me.” The redhead said and handed a few papers to Kara who went to get them and stuck her tongue out as she was walking away, she did the same back to her.

“You both look like two kids.” Lena said, laughing softly.

“She started it.” Kara said and handed half of the paperwork to Lena.

“Sure, I always do. Now please, hurry up.” Alex rolled her eyes.

It took them less than 5 minutes to finish signing everything, they handed all the papers back to Alex.

“Thank you, now go home, get some rest and let me work.” Alex said as she put everything away. “If anything happens I'll call but I have a good feeling about this, I think we’ll be ok.”

“Thank you again, Alex, for everything. I know trusting me on this one probably wasn’t easy.” Lena said with a smile, she sometimes still couldn’t believe how amazing her friends were and on a such a serious situation it always came as a shock to her that they’re willing to help and stay on her side.

“It was easy, actually. I’ve already said this but I can repeat it for you,” Alex got up and walked towards the girls and stood in front of Lena. “You’ve proven yourself worthy of our trust, Lena, many many times. We’re on your side now and forever so you can always count on us, okay? You can always count on your friends.” She smiled softly when she saw Lena’s eyes filling up with tears. “Can I give you a hug?”

Before she was even done asking the CEO was already wrapping her arms around her. “Thank you.” It was all she could manage to get out. She didn’t know what else to say anyway, besides Kara, it had been a long time since she had any friends but she was finally starting to remember how that felt and it was so amazing she couldn’t help but get emotional. “I don’t know if I'll ever get used to it.” She said and took a step back.

“You will, it might take a while but you will.” Alex said. “Nia loves you, Brainy is obsessed with all the projects you two work on together and that’s his way to show appreciation, I think you’re one of the best additions to this team, J’oon already talks about protecting you like he does to Kara and I and just everyone in our group, they all really like you.” She smiled. “Oh and obviously, your girlfriend over there will always be there for you if anyone ever changes their minds for whatever reason, hopefully God will have mercy on their souls if they do though.” She laughed. “Seriously though, soon enough it’s going to feel like we’ve all always been friends.”

“I hope so.” Lena nodded. “Thank you again, I really appreciate your patience and kind words.” She smiled once again.

Kara also had a huge smile as she watched her girlfriend and her sister. She was really scared that Alex would never like Lena, that she’d always only see the woman as a Luthor, and it was such a relief to see that she didn’t and that now they’re really good friends. Whenever Lena got excited to work with Alex and Alex got worried and act like a big sister to Lena, Kara’s heart warmed up and was flooded with happiness.

Alex looked over at Kara and went to give her a hug. “You did great today.” She said in a low tone. “I love you sis!”

“I love you too!” Kara tightened the hug before letting go. “Call if you need anything.” She said and reached out to Lena so they could walk out together.

“You too.” Alex waved at them right before they closed the door and left.

“Ready to go home?” Kara asked with s little smile.

“Yeah.” Lena nodded and turned so Kara could pick her up to fly them home.

“Is it really over?” Kara asked as they finally arrived home and threw themselves on the couch.

“I hope so. Not forever but God,” Lena sighed tiredly but smiled up at Kara. “this is already so much better than what our lives has been in the past few months.” She grabbed Kara’s hand. “Just knowing that we can actually sleep tonight without worrying about my family is the best feeling in the world and I thought I’d never get to experience it.”

“I felt like it was never going to end, that we’re stuck in a loop and…” Kara looked down at their hands intertwined, a little crinkle appearing between her eyebrows. “Rao, I don’t know, it was so hard.” She said quietly. “All that taught me that love can hurt and I'm so, so sorry, I can’t even imagine how all this has been for you.” She looked a bit sadly at Lena.

“You’re not wrong, but you know what, Kara?” Lena turned to her side and held Kara’s hand close to her chest. “It’s worth it.” She smiled. “Going through all of it, feeling all that pain, all of it is worth it in the end when everything is finally ok and we’re both still standing together.” She lifted her free hand and caressed the blonde’s cheek. “I'm sorry for everything I did too, I know I'm not an easy person to deal with and I’m so thankful you never gave up on me.” She lowered her hand again and looked down. “I'm thankful cause for years I thought it wasn’t worth it, cause I was taught that it wasn’t, that love was a huge waste of time and now I can finally see that they’re all so wrong and I'm so lucky to have what they’ll probably never have.” Her eyes shined, the smile never leaving her face. “For her own sake, I hope Lilian learns that on her time away now.”

“Me too. And hey,” Kara gently lifted Lena’s face with her fingers. “I'll never give up on you, regardless of how hard things get.” She finally smiled. “Your entire life was… extremely complicated, to say the least, so it’s understandable that you’re so resistant towards changes.” She moved even closer and looked into Lena’s eyes to show that she meant every word she was about to say. “Fighting for you and fighting on your side makes it all worth it too. You’re worth everything and I love you so much, more than you can probably imagine.” She bent slightly to give Lena a soft kiss.

“I love you too, so so much!” Lena kissed her once again.

“I love you more.” Kara whispered and laughed a little when Lena basically threw herself at her and started kissing her face.

“My silly alien.” Lena laughed.

“Hum” Kara was giggling while pretending to try to push Lena away, they both knew if she had more than enough strength to do it but Kara enjoyed pretending and watching Lena have fun. “You speak as if you weren’t a huge dork yourself.” She laughed when Lena stopped dramatically to stare at her.

“Well, I had the best teacher.” Lena sat back down, still a bit out of breath from laughing.

“I'm like a professor dorky, with a master in knock knock jokes.” Kara looked so proud of herself that Lena couldn’t help but roll her eyes.

“God, I really can’t with you.” She tried to stiff a laugh. “You really are the biggest dork there is.”

“Hey, but I'm your dork!” Kara pouted and bashed her eyebrows adorably.

“Forever and ever, that’s for sure.” The CEO pinched Kara’s cheeks jokingly.

“Yeah, and we’re gonna have a bunch of little dorky half alien kids making bad jokes around the house.” Kara said and laughed at the thought of it.

“Who said they’re not gonna be geniuses aliens?” Lena asked, not really realizing what they’re talking about at first.

“HEY, and who said they can’t be both?” Kara asked incredulously. “I am!” she exclaimed.

“Alright wait, wait,” Lena half laughed and lifted a hand. “When did we decided we’re going to have kids anyway?” She asked.

“I don’t know, I was just trying to imagine you dealing with me and another little alien making jokes at breakfast time and it sounded so funny cause you’re so dramatic!” Kara laughed at her own thoughts again, earning a little punch in the arm from Lena.

“I'm dramatic? Really?” The CEO rolled her eyes with a smirk.  “That’s rich coming from you miss Danvers, someone who freaked out over a cold and a broken arm when she first lost her powers and was whining in bed for a whole day.” She lifted a eyebrow at Kara, waiting for her response when she saw the girl blushing.

“Alex told you about that?” Kara looked away and cursed under her breath. “Fucking Rao!” She shook her head and sighed. “But she obviously didn’t told you about how I stopped a robbery at gunpoint on the same day, huh? I could’ve been shot!”

“Didn’t they found out the guns were unloaded right after everything was under control?” Lena smirked again, really trying not to laugh at how frustrated Kara was over this.

“Whatever, I didn’t know that when I stood in front of that gun to get those people to stop.” Kara crossed her arms and pouted again.

“Of course honey.” Lena then moved closer to the blonde again. “I never said you weren’t a hero, in fact I’ve always said Kara Danvers is sometimes more of a hero than Supergirl, I still think that even after finding out they’re technically the same person.” She smiled. “Buuuut, they’re both still very dramatic.”

“You love me anyway so, I don’t care.” Kara shrugged and laid her head on the back of the couch while looking at Lena. “And you’re dramatic too, maybe not like me but you are.” She crossed her arms and pouted yet again.

“I know I am, I know.” Lena said with a fake pout as she moved closer to Kara and opened her arms. “Come here you big baby.” She wrapped her arms around the blonde and pulled her closer, kissing her repeatedly all over her face and tickling her side until she lost the pout and started giggling. “How are you so ticklish?” She laughed along with Kara as the girl started pulling Lena’s hands, trying to get away to the other end of the couch. “You’re so cute.”

“So are you.” Kara said, slightly out of breath after finally breaking free from Lena. “Somehow the cutest and hottest person I’ve ever seen.” She smirked.

“Shut up!” Lena blusher and kicked Kara’s side jokingly.

“Ah, don’t act like you don’t love the compliment.” Kara got a hold of Lena’s feet to make her stop kicking. “It’s alright, I enjoy it too.”

“Fuck off.” Lena laughed while still blushing and pulled her leg back towards herself. “Or I'll tickle you again.”

“You wouldn’t dare…” Kara narrowed her eyes and stared Lena.

“Try me…” Lena crossed her arms and lifted s eyebrow at her.

Kara only looked at her for a minute before actually speaking. “You look so hot when you threaten me, I'm so-” She had a smirk again.

Lena didn’t waste a second and jumped to the other end of the couch on top of Kara, tickling her side mercilessly. “The fucking audacity!” She shouted as Kara begged her to stop with tears streaming down her cheeks from laughing so hard.

“I'm sorry-I'm sorry, please!” Kara held Lena’s hand firmly but carefully not to hurt her.

“‘Please’ what? I warned you.” Lena freed her hands from Kara’s and went back to tickling her.

“No!” Kara laid her head back on the couch, laughing. “I'm sorry babe, I' so sorry.”

“You better not test me again.” Lena stayed still, watching Kara for a few seconds as the girl tried to catch her breath.

“I won’t, promise.” Kara said as she sat back up with her hand on her chest, still working on getting her breath under control. “I'm hungry, let’s eat?” She asked suddenly only a few seconds later.

“God…” Lena couldn’t help but start laughing at that, getting out of Kara’s lap and sitting back on the couch.

“What?” Kara looked confusedly at her.

“Nothing, Kara.” Lena shook her head and tried her best to stop laughing. “Come on, let's have dinner.” Lena got up and reached to hold Kara’s hand to help her up. “It’s a special night, I'll cook us something.”

“Oh I love when you cook.” Kara got up excitedly and followed Lena to the kitchen, mostly to watch as Lena rarely allowed her to help but promised it wasn’t because of the time she got the kitchen on fire, Kara knew it was but didn’t care, she only cared about the food Lena always made on the rare times they had some free time.

4 hours later, they had already eaten, showered and changed and were both in bed watching a random Christmas movie Netflix had recommended.

“This is boring.” Lena complained not even halfway through the movie.

“It is, but isn’t it awesome that we can waste this time with a boring movie?” Kara asked with a silly smile on, she was still trying to process everything that had happened today.

“Yeah, feels pretty awesome.” Lena said and laid on her back, arms behind her head, eyes closed and a genuine smile on her face.

“Right? I haven't done that in such a long time.” Kara sighed and closed her eyes for a moment.

“Me neither.” Lena turned to her side. “Still want to change it though.” She pointed to the TV.

“Oh, right.” Kara reached to the nightstand to grab the remote. “What about The Grinch? You like it?” She asked while already looking for the movie.

“Never watched it.” Lena shrugged.

“What!?” Kara sat up and turned to Lena. “You never watched How The Grinch Stole Christmas? How?” She asked incredulously.

“I'm sorry, Lillian has been ‘good’ for less than a day and you already forgot about how she was before?” Lena lifted an eyebrow and smirked.

“Right, sorry.” Kara looked down at the remote and fidget with it for a second before looking back up. “Well, we can watch it now, you'll love it.” She moved back a bit against the headboard. “Sometimes you remind me of the Grinch.”

Lena was shocked for a second, she had no idea how to react to that. “Fuck you!” She said after a minute and slapped Kara’s arm.

“Hey!” Kara jumped slightly, having not expected that reaction from Lena. “I meant it in a good way!” She really didn’t. Actually, she didn’t know what she meant, exactly, she just spoke without really paying much attention, only having thought how funny Lena looked sometimes when she was angry.

“How the hell is it possible to compare that to me in a good way?” Lena crossed her arms and waited for Kara to answer. It took a while.

“Well…I don’t know, but-” Kara was fidgeting nervously again.

“You're really testing my limits today.” Lena rolled her eyes.

“Are you mad at me?” Kara pouted and looked up at Lena with nervous eyes.

Lena laughed softly. “No baby, I'm not mad at you, I'm only joking.” she shook her head with a soft smile and touched Kara’s cheek. “Though you shouldn’t keep trying cause you don’t want to see me mad for real.” Her face turned serious as she pointed to the blonde.

Kara’s eyes went wide as she nodded. “Yeah, ok.”

“Good.” Lena smiled again as she got more comfortable on her side of the bed. “Come on, let’s watch it.”

“Oh, yeah.” Kara shook her head to wake herself up from her thoughts and finally pressed play on the movie.

The movie was about to end when Lena looked down and realized Kara was asleep, a hand under her cheek and the other around Lena’s stomach gripping her shirt. “You left me watching this by myself? Right after calling me The Grinch?”

“hum…” Kara groaned and tightened her hold on Lena. “I'm watching…” She said, still half asleep.

“The movie is over.”

Kara turned around and blinked a few times before rubbing her eyes and sitting up. “Did you like it?”

“Yeah, it’s funny and pretty interesting actually.” Lena said and sat up too. “He’s right too, people suck, living alone with his dog is not only understandable but also a dream.”

“I guess some people suck, but not everyone.” Kara said and looked over at Lena. “I understand his trauma though.”

“Look at us, analyzing a kids movie at,” Lena turned slightly to look at clock in her nightstand. “almost 1 am.”

“Well, even kids movies have hidden messages and deeper meanings.” Kara shrugged.

“True.” Lena nodded.

“Are you ready?” Kara asked after turning the TV off.

“Ready for what?” Lena looked confusedly at her.

“For the rest of our lives.” Kara said and laid her head on Lena’s stomach looking up at her. “It always felt like your family stood in the middle of everything we wanted to do, I felt that even after you stopped saying that,  it took me a while to understand how all of that was really like for you so.” She reached up to brush s strand of Lena’s hair behind her ear. “I'm glad that I get to be here today, laying in this bed with you and walking up by your side every morning.” She smiled. “We’ve been together for months but I know for you it'll only start to feel completely now, you'll be less stressed out and I can’t wait for that.”

“I'm only here thanks to you.” Lena was playing with Kara’s hair, smiling while looking at nothing, only thinking. “The fact that I'm still standing today, that’s all thanks to you and I am, and will always be thankful for that.” She smiled and turned her eyes to Kara, starting to focus on her. “Thankful for your patience, your love, your kind words and everything, all that changed my world completely and God knows I needed that to survive, but now?” She sat up a bit more and Kara got up to sit besides her. “Now we get to start living, the both of us. I know things will still be complicated and we’ll get stressed out and have hard days, it'll always be like this, but it'll still somehow feel different, it already does, and I'm so so excited for this new phase.” Lena’s eyes filled up with happy tears again.

“I'm really excited too, even more to be walking into it with you.” Kara opened her arms so Lena could come to her. “I wanted to thank you for everything too, I also wouldn’t be here today if it wasn’t for you.” Kara closed her eyes and laid her chin on top of Lena’s head. “I agree with Alex that you’re one of the best additions to our team, we’re just this strong today because of you.” She spoke softly, eyes still closed, only enjoying Lena’s scent and tight embrace.

Eventually they broke away and laid back down, still in silence, only looking at each other with a smile on, eyes shining with hope.

Soon Kara realized Lena was fighting exhaustion to stay awake. “While waiting for you earlier,” She whispered. “I asked Alex to talk to everyone and Supergirl will only be called if it's absolutely necessary and you’re taking the day off tomorrow so,” The hero moved slightly closer. “This might sound silly but, I think this will be our first full night together, no interruptions, no me rushing out at two am to go save the city…” A little shy smiled appeared on her face.

“It’s not silly at all, that’s huge for us.” Lena said and lifted her head slightly to lay on Kara’s chest. “It'll be the first of many.”

“Yeah, the first of many.” Kara nodded to herself, arms instinctively wrapping around Lena to keep her safe. “Our lives will kinda of be the same but totally different at the same time.”

“Yeah, it’ll feel very different.” Lena replied sleepily, eyes already closed again.

“It sure will.” Kara sighed. “You still up?” She asked a few minutes later.”

“hum…” Lena shook her head.

Kara giggled softly. “Goodnight, my love.”

“Night my perfect alien.” Lena replied in a whisper and fell asleep a few seconds later.

Kara looked down, one arm still wrapping securely around Lena and the other softly brushing her hair so it wasn’t covering her face anymore. She looked so beautiful, so peaceful, that’s such an rare thing for the both of them. The way her heart beat, her breathing slow, relaxed, everything was both familiar but also knew, somehow, only they could understand it and it’d forever be this way but she didn’t care because this was all that mattered to her now.
