Chapter Text

The next day is (blessedly) a Saturday, which means Denki can stay in his room, avoiding Bakugou and the rest of his friends. Unfortunately, however, his friends apparently didn’t get the memo. He’s gotten knocks on his door from all of the gang, even Bakugou to his surprise. He only tells them to go away.

Another knock sounds on his door and he rolls his eyes.

“Kaminari? Are you alright?” an unfamiliar voice asks.

“I’m fi-” Denki’s voice cuts off as a fog fills his mind.

He hears a muffled command to open the door, and for some reason, he can’t find the ability to resist obeying. Once the door is opened, he gets slapped in the face and the fog clears.

“Ow, what the hell!” Denki snaps.

“I’m gonna go. You owe me, Bakugou,” a purple haired boy says.

“Whatever,” the blond snaps back, grabbing Denki’s arm and dragging him to the elevators. “You haven’t eaten all day. Come on, idiot. You need food.”

“I’m fine,” Denki snaps, trying to pull away to no avail.

Bakugou glares at him. “Stop hiding in your room and fucking take care of yourself. Maybe then I’ll believe that.”

Denki huffs, but can’t think of a good retort. “I don’t need to be babysat.”

The elevator arrives and Bakugou yanks him inside, angrily smashing the button for the ground floor.

“I’m not babysitting you! Is it that hard to believe I care about you?” Bakugou snarls.

Denki laughs bitterly. “It kind of is.”

Bakugou freezes, then looks at him with a frown. “You should know I do.” His voice is quiet.

Guilt pools in Denki’s gut, but he pushes it down. He doesn’t bother to say anything else, or even look at Bakugou. He wants to say he only reluctantly eats the food Bakugou gives him, but he’s really hungry and ends up nearly inhaling it. At least Denki can take comfort in the fact that Bakugou left before Denki could start eating. (A traitorous part of his heart wishes Bakugou stayed.)

Denki isn’t left alone for long, however. Mina soons joins him.

“Kaminari! You jerk! You’ve been avoiding us!” Mina complains, plopping down in the seat next to him. “Spill! What happened with Bakugou?”

Denki looks up at her. “I asked him out. He rejected me.”

Mina’s face falls. “What? But… I thought he liked you?”

That just causes Denki to sigh. “I thought so too, but I guess not. Sorry for avoiding you. Just wanted to be alone and mope, I guess.”

Mina pulls him into a hug. “I’m sorry, sweetie.”

Denki lets out a small sniffle, pressing his face into Mina’s shoulder as tears fill his eyes. “It’s so stupid. I don’t know why I’m so upset. I mean, I don’t remember even knowing him for more than a day, but it feels like he ripped out my heart. It’s so stupid.”

“It’s not stupid, Kami. Your memories are gone, not your feelings,” Mina says gently, rubbing his back.

“What the fuck happened? I was only gone for ten fucking minutes,” Bakugou snaps from the doorway.

Denki tenses, and Mina’s arms tighten around him.

“Bakugou, out,” Mina commands.

“What the hell? Not fucking happening,” Bakugou retorts, coming closer.

Denki buries his face further into Mina’s embrace. Then he feels a hand on his shoulder and flinches.

“Back off, Bakugou,” Mina hisses, slapping his hand away.

“The fuck is wrong with you, Pinky?!”

“Go to your room. I’ll deal with you later.”

“Go to my room? You’re not my fucking mom!”

Denki stands up, pulling away from Mina. He gives her a weak smile, refusing to even glance at Bakugou.

“I’m gonna go take a nap. Thanks for being here, Mina,” Denki says softly.

Before he can turn to go upstairs, Bakugou grabs him again. “No. You’ve been up there sulking all day. Like hell I’m just letting you go back!”

Mina goes to interfere, but Denki beats her to it.

“God Bakugou! Can’t you just stop?” Denki shouts. “You rejected me, and I’m trying to move on, but it’s nearly impossible because you refuse to leave me alone! So just. Go away. Please.” His voice breaks at the end, but he doesn’t let his glare waver.

Bakugou looks shocked, but his expression quickly hardens, and his grip tightens. “Pinky. Out. Now.”

“Hell no. Not happening,” Mina snaps, moving to Denki’s side and wrapping her arms around him.

“Ashido,” Bakugou growls out.

There’s something in his voice that makes Mina freeze.

Denki sighs and looks over at her. “It’s fine, Mina.”

She hesitates for a moment, then finally, with one last glare at Bakugou, walks out.

“Kaminari, look at me,” Bakugou commands.

Denki can’t find the will to disobey. “What?”

“I wasn’t rejecting you.”

Denki blinks at him. “You said you didn’t want to go out with me. And that’s fine . I’m not trying to guilt you into dating me, I just need time to deal with it. Alright?”

“No! Fucking listen to me,” Bakugou grabs onto both his shoulders now. “I do. Want to date you. Or whatever. Just, not now. You don’t remember shit right now. What if…” Bakugou trails off, and looks away nervously. “What if you get your memories back and remember you only see me as a friend? What if you don’t actually want me?”

Denki watches the other. “Oh.”

Bakugou huffs, cheeks pink. “Just. When you get your memories back, we can talk. Yea?”

Denki nods with a soft smile. “Yea. Okay.”

_ _ _

Blessedly, Denki doesn’t have to wait long to get his memories back. Monday after school, Aizawa introduces him to a man whose quirk allows him to tap into people’s heads. With this quirk, the man is able to fix Denki’s brain.

The first thing Denki does is go to find Bakugou.

“Kacchan!” Denki sings, barging into the other’s room. “I got my memories back!”

Bakugou jerks up to look up at him, a small smile gracing his face. “About fucking time.”

Denki moves over to Bakugou, a nervous smile tugging his lips. “I’d say.”

Bakugou hesitates, refusing to meet Denki’s eyes. “So. Does this mean…” he trails off, unsure.

Denki takes one of Bakugou’s hands. “Bakugou, would you do me the honor of going on a date with me?”

A small smirk appears on Bakugou’s face. “If you insist.”

Denki giggles. “I do.”

“Then I guess I don’t have a choice.”

“Not really, no.”

“Fine. One condition, though.”

“Which is?”

Bakugou gives him the softest look that Denki has ever seen on him. “You have to call me Katsuki.”

Denki smiles. “Anything for you, Katsuki.”

Notes:
