Chapter Text
Thankfully the rumored coffee shop took only a few minutes to walk to. D reached a building that to most would look like any other in the large city, but if you would go to the back alley a door with a small sign would be there. All the sign had on it was one beautifully carved letter. The letter S.
D knew that this was the place, and hoped that it would be at least some level of presentable. The door swung open cleanly with a little ring of a bell and inside was…a coffee shop. They didn’t really know what they were expecting from the biggest villain in the city, D didn’t really think that someone most would call a monster would put this amount of effort into something so mundane as a coffee shop.
Overall it was cozy, plush couches and chairs were placed around the large lounge with tables dotting the room as well. A large counter with a case for different baked goods was the focal point of the room, the shining black counter with a cash register had a large rose wood framed chalkboard that had the menu neatly written onto it hanging above. The place was almost breathtaking. The floors were made of ebony and the walls were papered with a pattern of red with gold roses. Healthy potted plants of all different shapes and sizes peppered the space and a large cat tree rested in a corner.
There were only a few customers this late at night, D recognised a one or two from the news but didn’t pay them much mind. D was too tired to deal with much at the moment, especially without coffee. So trudging over to the counter D rang the little bell that would get the attention of the barista so they could get some hard earned caffeine. The thing is when D looked up to see their server, they were looking straight into the golden yellow eyes of the S tier villain themself.
“Hello, what can I get for you this evening?” The person said as if they weren’t the closest being to a god D would ever see.
D was very tired, but that does not mean in any universe that they would not be anything but polite to waitstaff, especially the ones that could kill them in less then a second. So summoning every ounce of courage D looked up into the eyes of the S tier villain and ordered.
“Can I have a hot chocolate with like six shots of espresso please? A blueberry muffin as well.” D asked as politely as possible while exhaustion was evident on their face.
“Uh yes I can get you those. Having a rough night?” S asked genuinely.
D really didn’t think they would be meeting this infamous villain tonight, or ever. They were also not expecting someone who could break D in two to be so…nice. Not that it wasn’t welcome, D just had never met someone with such a split feeling to them. On one hand, every ounce of their body radiated raw power. D had never heard of anyone as strong as them. Yet looking closer, S seemed relaxed and their eyes though almost glowing seemed to harbor no hatred that you see in most villains. There was no malice and though so strong they didn’t seem to mind serving someone that most upper level villains would see as lesser or a joke.
“You could say that.” D said. “My nemesis decided to raid my house while I was robbing a bank. So yeah, I need some coffee.”
“I’ll get that right to you, feel free to make yourself comfortable.” S told them, gesturing to an empty spot with a couch and coffee table.
“Thank you.” D said, handing over the money for their order. They sank down into the couch, finding it to be more comfortable than any piece of furniture D had ever sat on. Every bit of the shop seemed genuine. This wasn’t just a place to gain followers or keep power over the other villains by providing sanctuary. Not just because of the expense, but because every detail of the shop was made to be warm and welcoming in a way that no one who didn’t care could replicate.
Soon S came over with D’s order, placing a plate with a warm and soft blueberry muffin and a large mug filled with the concoction that D’s sleep deprived brain came up with. Taking a sip of the warm liquid D never knew that someone could make a drink this good. Though most would describe the drink as a crime in of itself S made the drink taste as though it was the most normal thing ever, D could taste the rich chocolate as well as the espresso being smooth and better then they could ever dream of making. S had disappeared before D could open their mouth to thank them.
D slowly enjoyed their late night snack and the caffeine started to kick in so that they could start to be considered something of a functioning human being. They watched the news on a TV that was mounted in a corner of the lounge and really started to enjoy themselves. No rumors could ever bring this place justice and D thought that maybe this might not be a one off visit.
