Chapter 1: Episode 1 part 1: The Hill.

Chapter Text

They had finally made it to the top of the hill. Whilst everyone else cheered Kenma fell to the ground with an agonised, definitely exaggerated groan. Kuroo found it hilarious.

“I think I’ll join you for a minute.” Tsukishima laid next to him, silently, as if contemplating the meaning of the universe itself.

“The most treacherous obstacle of the night... The Hill.” Tanaka pointed his camera towards the two panting boys laying on the grass.

“Worth it though! Look at the view!” Hinata pointed out, the two camera men averting their cameras to the sunset over the cliff.

“Yeah, then there’s that monstrosity.” Kageyama pointed towards an old castle. It was gloomy, not to mention it seemed as if it was haunted by Satan himself.

The cameras were turned off momentarily, just so that they could wait for nightfall, which loomed ominously around every corner.

Recently, Kenma had began a project. This project was a series for his YouTube channel named “Ghost Stories”, basically a ghost hunting series directed entirely by his friends and him. If the first series went well, he would continue it.

Featured in this series are five rookie ghost hunters, two of which are complete skeptics. Hinata, Kageyama and Bokuto are firm believers in the paranormal, whereas Tsukishima and Akaashi are skeptics.

Kenma acted as a host and narrator for the show, although he is present whilst the five are investigating he himself is not investigating. Although, every now again he would come out with some paranormal report about the location to try and scare the investigators. He would also instigate activities like, ouija boards and going to a creepy old basement alone.

Tanaka and Nishinoya are the proud camera men, although Kenma isn’t sure wether or not appointing those two camera men was a decision he made in a sane state of mind. They are... chaotic to say the least.

Yamaguchi was sort of like the ‘cams guy’ He didn’t want to actively be involved in the ghost hunting, he says it’s because he doesn’t want to be on camera but he’s definitely afraid of ghosts, or so Tsukishima claims. There is a van stationed near the location where he monitors cameras around the premises for any activity, he communicates this with Kuroo via intercom.

Kuroo basically tags along, but he is entertaining nonetheless and has frequent screen time. If Yamaguchi spots something out of the ordinary he will communicate this with Kenma. He is also, somehow, entrusted with the first aid kit.

Sugawara helps out by holding the microphone, although he completely volunteered for this role confessing that he just wanted to be in the series. Daichi tags along with him, they agreed it would be good to have a viewers perspective alongside the team.

Yachi and Kiyoko joined Yamaguchi in the van, merely for moral support. Yamaguchi was scared that a demon would crawl through the screen, like something out of the ring.

“Alright, are we ready?” Tanaka walked backwards, pressing record.

“No.” Hinata stated bluntly.

“Absolutely not.” Kageyama shook his head violently.

“I hope I get consumed by demons, on camera.” Tsukishima announced.

Bokuto just stood there, making faces as if he were terrified.

“I hope so.” Akaashi said, with a sort of foreboding undertone.

Kenma stepped forward, in line with the camera before speaking.

“Tonight we are here at Blaise Castle, to begin our investigation into wether or not ghosts are real. Here we will be looking at not one, but two locations, Blaise Castle.” He gestures behind him, to the castle. “And Blaise Museuem.” He then gestures over a steep cliff, past the woods, if you zoom in close enough you could just about make out the museum in the distance.

“And so it begins...” they all turn to face the door, dramatically pushing it open to exaggerate the creakiness.

As they walked in, one by one flashlights turned on, they were all suddenly frightened by a high pitched screech. Hinata had been jump scared by an armoured statue.

“For fucks sake Hinata.” Kageyama groaned, the others laughed.

“Sorry! It was just... well... there.” He defended himself, to an extent.

Overall the interior of the place wasn’t that huge, which is probably the reason they were investigating two places. The stairs had been cut off, so obviously they couldn’t get to the top.

“This place was built in seventeen sixty six, mainly for decorative purposes but its appearance suggests it may had harboured another purpose. There are signs of occupation in this area during the Neolithic, Bronze Age, Iron Age and Roman periods. So there a possibly tons of ghosts for you to lure from the depths of hell!” Kenma stated, more enthusiastically than normal, maybe even slightly sadistic.

“So what do we do... just summon a demon?” Akaashi asked, somewhat sarcastically.

“Partially.” Kenma replied, gesturing for Kuroo to hand him a device. “This is a spirit box, not the most pleasant of things but it will allow you to communicate with the dead, supposedly.” He handed the box to Hinata.

The group then sat in a circle, the spirit box situated in the middle. Reluctantly, Hinata pressed the button. Everyone collectively grimaced at the sudden horrendous noise it made. Tanaka and Nishinoya’s annoyed reactions and flinches were caught on camera.

“Jesus, what is that thing?” Tsukishima covered his ears.

“A spirit box, you ask it a question and hope a ghost replies or something.” Kenma had to raise his voice to speak over the spirit box, something he didn’t often do.

“Is anyone here?” Hinata asked, greeted with only the static of the spirit box.

“Hello?” He continued.

This time, the box momentarily stopped, an unintelligible voice responded.

“Did you here that, it said hi! It said hi!” Hinata proclaimed. Tsukishima rolled his eyes in disagreement.

“It’s just the static, nothing was actually said it’s down to interpretation.” He suggested, Akaashi agreed.

“Definitely a ghost.” Bokuto muttered under his breath. Nishinoya had to stop his hands from shaking, he was ninety percent sure he heard that faint “hi” too. Sugawara stayed hidden behind Tanaka and Nishinoya, sort of using them as a shield.

“Can you tell us your name.” Daichi asked from off screen.

“No.” The spirit box replied.

By now everyone, apart from the skeptics, was pretty freaked out. Bokuto abruptly stood up and marched away saying “nope, no, nope, no, no, no”, over and over again as he left.

“I agree.” Hinata said, following suite with Kageyama close behind.

“Well with that, it’s time for our second location.” Kenma spoke towards the camera.

“But first.... we must tackle... The Hill!” Nishinoya dramatically proclaimed, Tanaka panning the camera towards him as he spoke. The rest of the cast groaned, before a fortunate light came to rescue them from the depths of these woods.

“Hey! Didn’t think we’d let you walk back in the dark huh?” Yamaguchi announced, pulling up in the van to escort them to their location.

Most saw it as a blessing, but Kenma was slightly terrified. As the host he tried too keep his fear under control, but the thought of another eerie location... terrifying.

“Ah, I was so scared I would have to walk down there in the dark.” Hinata slumped against the van wall.

“You are our saviour, Yamaguchi.” Tanaka announced.

“I wouldn’t thank me yet. I’m merely delivering you to your next demon infested location.” He shivered.

“I was kinda hoping you wouldn’t turn up, so
I would get severely injured or mauled by a bear. That way I wouldn’t have to go this museum.” Kenma complained.

“Scared, are we?” Kuroo asked, with an integrative tone.

“No way.” Kenma crossed his arms and turned away from Kuroo in defence.

“Alrighty, we’re here... well... you guys are.” Yamaguchi smiled, the three in the van waved them off cheerily before speeding away. Leaving them stranded in-front of a most definitely haunted, seventeen hundreds mansion.

They looked at it, the old style building, the many windows. It looked so eerie at night, the group was surprised they hadn’t heard the maniacal laughing of a deceased child or something.

“Oh great, the literal gates of hell.” Nishinoya said.

Notes:
