Chapter Text
It has been a few days since the kiss. It was wednesday. Catra didn’t really bring up the topic so Adora decided to not talk about it thinking that’s what Catra wanted. She wasn’t exactly wrong. So everything was normal between them, thankfully.
It was a very boring day at school and they didn’t have any lessons together so it was extra boring. They decided to eat lunch together so that they could be together. So when Adora found Catra to go buy something to eat, she was happy to see her best friend.
“Hey.” Catra said, smiling.
“Hi.” Adora said, also smiling. Then she moved forward to give Catra a hug from the side. She kept her arm behind Catra’s back after hugging, so they were walking attached to each other. Adora was in a pretty good mood, humming a random song and all, until Catra said something.
“Someone asked me out today.” Catra said, looking up to Adora.
Adora tried to keep her voice steady and managed to say “Who?” before Catra could change the topic.
“Scorpia.” Catra said.
“Oh.” Adora said, taking her arm behind Catra’s back and continuing “What did you say?”
“I said ‘sure’ and she got so happy, it was nice to watch her face lighten up.” Catra said.
Adora felt sick to her stomach. She wasn’t sure as to how to answer this so she only managed to say “That’s nice.”
They got their food and ate it in silence. Adora was able to think only one thing. Scorpia.
Scorpia. Scorpia? Scorpia. Adora knew her from the team. They weren’t really that close but they were still friends. Adora also remembered basically hinting her feelings towards Catra when Scorpia and her were talking. So she was disturbed, to say the least. They were teammates, they played basketball every once in a while when their teacher decided that they needed practice, so Adora never really got to know her. Even though she was somewhat close to her other teammates.
When Adora realized she was acting weird, she decided to talk to Catra, about anything really.
“So-” Adora stopped.
“Yeah?” Catra looked at Adora.
Adora cleared her throat and started talking. “When are you meeting?”
“With who?”
“Scorpia.”
“Oh. I don’t know. I just gave her my number and she said she’d text me.”
“Oh.”
“Why did you ask?”
“No reason.”
“Are you mad at me?”
“What? No.”
“Then why are you acting like you are?”
“I’m not.
“Yes you are.”
“Whatever.”
“Look! You are. What is it?”
“It’s nothing.” Adora only managed to say because how do you tell your best friend of thirteen years that you have been in love with her since forever and that you don’t want her to date someone because you want her for yourself? You don’t. So you pretend like it’s nothing. Because it really is nothing if you don’t have the right words for it.
“Adora.”
“Yeah?”
“Wanna hug?”
“Yeah.” Adora said before Catra got up from the ground and sat on Adora’s lap. They started hugging. They were at the schoolyard so they were sitting on the soft grass. Adora put her head in the crook of Catra’s neck and sighed. Why did everything have to be this hard?
Eventually Catra pulled back and put her hands on Adora’s cheeks. She was looking directly into Adora’s eyes.
“You are literally my baby, you know that?” Catra said, making Adora smile so big that you could barely see her eyes.
“I love you.” Adora said.
“I love you too.” Catra said before kissing Adora on her cheek after putting one of her hands behind Adora’s neck. Adora stared at her. How can someone be this beautiful, she thought to herself. Catra was so pretty. The way she made Adora feel can only be explained with nothing but pure love. She wanted Catra to be happy so of course she wasn’t gonna do anything about Scorpia. That would be just wrong.

A few more days passed. Catra and Scorpia never went to that date. Adora wondered but decided to not talk about it at all until today. They were in Adora’s room in her house, it was Sunday. They were just talking about nothing, Adora at the ground, Catra on her lap, face turned to Adora.
“Oh and I was wondering-” Adora said.
“Yeah?”
“You and Scorpia…”
“What about us?”
“Why did you guys never go on that date?”
“Oh.” Catra stopped. “I changed my mind about wanting to go, so…”
“Why?”
“I don’t know. I wasn’t into her at all, I realized. Why would I go on a date with her?”
“Oh.” Adora looked down. “Okay.”
“There is one more thing actually, I-” Catra stopped.
“What is it?” Adora said, lowkey worried.
“I-” Catra stopped and took a breath then sighed. “I’m-”
“I’m in love with you.” Adora blurted.
“What?” Catra said looking at a teary-eyed Adora.
“Look, please don’t say what you’re gonna say. I actually wasn’t gonna say this and confess to you like that but I’m so scared of losing you and I don’t think I could handle you being in love with someone else or even hanging out with someone else. I just- I need you and I’m so scared of losing you and I love you Catra. More than anything. And I know you probably don’t feel the same but-” Adora was about to continue her ramble but Catra kissed her. And god, kissed her. Catra’s eyes were getting teary, Adora realized mid-way into the kiss.
Catra so desperately wanted this that she didn’t have it in herself to stop even for taking a breath. Adora pulled back with a sudden move.
“Catra.” Adora said, breathing heavily, her lips were swollen.
“Yeah?” Catra said, her lips were also swollen and she was also breathing heavily.
“So you do?”
“What?”
“You love me?”
“You are such an idiot.” Catra laughed. “Of course I do.” And I have been in love with you forever, I think. I was just about to say that before you decided to go on a long rant about you being in love with me so I didn’t know how to respond other than kissing you.”
“I love you too. I-”
“Can I continue kissing you?”
“Yeah.” Adora laughed, she was crying, so was Catra.
They kissed for what felt like forever. After this was easy. Figuring out college together. Just the two of them. As it was meant to be.
