Chapter Text

It was the nth ball that Atsumu had smashed on the floor, and Sakusa absolutely had enough of it.

Yes, he definitely enjoyed Coach Foster chewing him out. It was a sight to see. Watching Atsumu get annoyed is the oxygen Sakusa uses to breathe. The beauty of nature is in witnessing someone yell at Atsumu. But witnessing Atsumu when he’s annoyed? That was a completely different matter. He’d act like a cat on a rampage. It was not too festive, to say the least.

But Atsumu looked really pissed off, and that was a matter of worry. An angry Atsumu is never good news for anyone.

It wouldn’t take a genius to figure out what had pushed Atsumu to the edge. Hinata had pointedly ignored him the entire time during practice, and to add fuel to the fire, fucking Inunaki Shion (sorry, Wan-san) had offered to take Hinata home alone.

Sakusa knew that he’d have to step in and do something. Watching any drama unfold was fun. Yes, it was especially theatrical when it happened within the team, but as a good friend, Sakusa understood his responsibilities.

It wasn’t really Atsumu’s anger that Sakusa was worried about. He was worried about Wan-san and Hinata.

Sakusa, though rather bitterly, would admit that Hinata was a pretty responsible person. He had a sort of harmless chaotic energy about him, but it didn’t faze Sakusa all that much.

It was that whenever Hinata was in the company of Inunaki Shion, he’d lose a couple of brain cells, and by couple, he meant all of them. Both of them were individually very smart, but as a duo, they could surely win an award for stupidity.

And so, whatever Wan-san had in mind was bound to go wrong. There was no force of nature that could possibly make it all work out.

Now, this is where Sakusa would step in.

"Hey, Miya!" he called out to Atsumu. Atsumu set his bottle aside to look at him.

"Omi-kun, can you not? I’m not really in the mood," Atsumu muttered wearily.

"Why do you think I’m trying to insult you, you bastard?" Sakusa grumbled. Atsumu chuckled. "What is it?"

"Take Hinata out for dinner."

"Omi-kun, I don’t know if your brain has become scrambled or if you’re just messing with me, but Hinata is very clearly mad at me. He wouldn’t even look at me!" Atsumu retorted.

"Yeah, that’s because you’re a fucking idiot," Sakusa said, blandly.

"First of all, your monotonous voice makes me sick. Second of all, what the heck do you mean?"

Sakusa was way too tired to piece everything together for Atsumu's micro-sized brain. He was supposed to be home by now. He was supposed to be baking brownies and watching a shitty reality TV show. In no world would he rather sign up for this.

But he had to play his part, unfortunately, so he explained it all to Atsumu. Atsumu’s eyes grew comically wide. No, like, when he said comically wide, he meant comically wide. The slow realisation of just how dumb Atsumu was dawned on him the more his eyes grew in size. It was equal parts hilarious and aggravating.

Atsumu picked up his gym bag and dashed out of the court.

"At least take a shower. Don’t be gross!" Sakusa yelled from behind. "Love ya, Omi-kun!" Atsumu yelled back. Sakusa mentally gagged.

Later that night, he got a call from Atsumu, which he answered not-so ardently. Atsumu recited the happenings of the night. From the romantic dinner blunder (Sakusa called it!) to the dinner date he took Hinata out on.

"Yer a lifesaver, Omi-kun. I could kiss you right now!"

“You’re an abusive, arrogant pig. And your breath smells like ramen. Please leave me alone."

Sakusa didn’t know why he would always take to the harrowing ordeals of being friends with Atsumu. Love Island was a thousand times better than this, without a doubt.
