Chapter Text
Once he’s propped up and relaxed on the living room couch his friends leave him to rest on his own, Jäger sighs than stretches, recollecting all that had happened earlier in the day.
Happy to have survived yet again but upset that he’s been feeling weird lately. He’s been feeling this odd unsettling feeling since before his latest mission but he’s yet to say anything to Doc about it.
He doesn’t remember when exactly he started feeling like this but he can’t exactly complain either for he has not told a soul about it, simply not wanting to worry his friends and have even a little of their attention on him instead of their mission and the injured just because he thinks something is wrong with him.
Frowning, Jäger tried to get up and off the couch, feeling like he had rested long enough, only to fail and only manage to move barely an inch off the couch. Jäger barely manages not to yell and tries again, succeeding this time though extremely unbalanced. Starting to feel dizzy and the beginning of a headache, Jäger nearly sat back down, NO, he thought to himself, he has to be able to at least this so he isn’t a burden to the others.
Struggling to move forward, Jäger uses a nearby wall to help balance himself. Now that he had managed to balance himself he didn’t really know what he wanted to do since he knew he wasn’t allowed to help the others work on a possible antidote at the moment. Sighing, Jäger decided that he should probably, finally, tell Doc about how he’s been feeling. Sucking up his irrational thoughts of being a burden and a nuisance, he moves in the direction of the medbay.
While on his way to the medbay Jäger must have spaced out because stopping him was none other than Montagne.
“Hey! Earth to Marius” Montagne called out, snapping his fingers in front of the German. Jäger blinked a couple of times before finally zoning back in on reality. Standing in front of him was none other than the titan himself. Montagne.
“Hey, there he is! Welcome back to Earth!” He smirked with a grand smile as he finally moved back out of Jäger's face.
“Oh, Gilles. I didn’t notice you. What are you doing around here? Thought you had work? Especially working with Gustave?” Jäger questioned looking up at the French. Since when did he get so tall?
“I was working with him. Then I saw you swaying a bit on my way to the cafe for another cup of coffee. Thought you might need some help” Montagne informed, leaning down a bit to get in Jäger’s field of vision.
“Ah! Don’t worry about me. Nothing to concern you little head over. Just getting older” Jäger jokes as the headache begins to kill him. Old age has really taken a beating on him. What’s worse was how he always felt exhausted. Maybe it was due to his brittle bones. Seems logical.
“Yeah, not as young as we used to be” Montagne jokes, “now are you coming or will I have to carry you?”
Montagne motioned towards the medical ward as he raised an eyebrow at Jäger. At first, the German wanted to reject his offer so that he wouldn’t burden the older man, but he wasn’t in the mood to argue. Having used too much strength. So, he obliged to the titan. Using him as a crutch, the duo began to walk in the direction of the medbay.
“So, was your mission a success? I heard Olivar nearly got hit by one of those sharp feral things” Jäger asked, turning slightly in his direction
“Ah, yeah…close to being a failure because the nest was more heavily infested than we thought. But we were able to contain it. Maxim and Shu both came in handy during that mission” Montagne explained as he recalled his mission.
The operation was dangerous indeed because most of the basic infection began to swarm his unit. Yet the final scan that Lion sent out helped them discover what direction they swarmed out from. From there, Fuze’s cluster charge began to mow them down as Kapkan made sure their flank was covered. Few scars and minor bruises, but overall, the mission came out flawless. Well, as flawless as it could be.
“That’s good. Seems like we are getting better at containing this plague”
“Agreed. Soon, this will be solved and we can go back to working against terrorist”
“Can’t believe I’m saying this but I really do miss fighting those White Mask freaks” Jäger jokes as the duo soon made it to the medical ward
Entering the ward, both men were surprised by the sudden rise in patients needing to be checked out, looking around and not immediately spotting Doc, Montagne starts to get a slight worried.
“I think this is going to have to be the end of our tour” Montagne tried to joke “I’m gonna go look for Gustave, you go have a seat, I promise I’ll be right back!” Montagne raised his voice as he got further and further into the medbay to look for Doc, leaving Jäger with the sudden feeling of emptiness and loneliness.
Sighing, Jäger looked around and spotted a cushioned metal chair by the entrance of the medbay, finally being able to relax again, his legs giving out the moment he sat down. “This headache must be worse than I thought if I’m suddenly feeling lonely in a facility full of people..” Jäger mumbled to himself.
Suddenly feeling like someone drugged him, Jäger got a huge wave of exhaustion thrown onto him. “A small nap won’t hurt anyone right?..”crossing his arms and leaning his head against the wall, Jäger had fallen asleep.
