Chapter Text
It’s been a couple of weeks since the exchange event and Naoya had still been in even worse mood than usual. It was probably because of how much Satoru and Suguru had embarrassed him in the exchange event and not only that, but getting knocked out by a blonde that wasn’t even from a sorcerer clan. Rena and Akari had heard him cursing in the class. It was already bad enough he had to be classmates with two women. One that wasn’t even in a major clan and the other that was a part of a major clan that had no business with the position she was competing for.
He could tell that Miyajima and Nitta were both trying to hide laughter, glaring at the two, “Is there something funny.”
“Nothing.” Akari’s expression changed while Rena leaned back in her seat, arms crossed.
“You’ve been bitchier lately, Naoya.” Rena wondered if it was because she had a better show than he did. Or even if it’s because of her relationship to Suguru. Nonetheless, he was probably embarrassed by the exchange event’s endeavors.
She thought of that blond sorcerer Kento who she met at the exchange event. She wonders if he could actually outsmart Naoya and she wonders what could’ve happened if they would’ve faced off together.
Maybe they’ll face off next year.
“Are you still upset about the exchange event?” Rena asked him, not being able to keep the smile on her face.
Akari knew something was about to go wrong so she took a few steps back.
“What made you think I was bitchy, Rena?” Naoya looked at her and if there was anyone else being stared at by him, they would’ve backed off. But Rena had been different.
“Well you’ve been grumpier since the exchange event.” Rena says, yawning, leaning in her seat, “You couldn’t have thought that you were going to win against those two?”
Rena at least knows Naoya isn’t stupid. Sure, he’s an ass but he isn’t stupid. She knows that he’s not someone to just go in head on but he is rather arrogant.
“Why do you get to stand with them?” He asks her darkly, taking a step in her direction.
Akari knew what was about to happen so she jumped in between them, “Hey don’t start this now?”
“This concerns the main clans, not you, lowlife?” Naoya shoved her aside, stepping closer to Rena, “Well, answer the question.”
Rena could tell that he was jealous but she didn’t find a care in the world to really answer his question. Is he seriously asking her why they wanna be friends with her and not him?
“Are you asking me why they choose to try to befriend me?” She wouldn’t call her friends with Satoru though, “I think the answer should be obvious, Naoya.”
“Why do you always seem to put your place where it doesn’t belong?”
The room went silent as Rena clenched her fists, “I don’t have to explain myself to you.” She’s not here to give him information or answers. He didn’t need to know them. Maybe he should stop projecting all of his insecurities onto her for once?
Naoya glares at her, as if he was required to hear a response from her, “Teh, why do I even bother asking you questions? You’ll know your place after the Kyoto event next month.”
And with that, he stormed off.
Akari sighed, “What was that all about?”
“Nevermind that, you'll get used to it.” Rena sighs, looking at her phone that just buzzed. She hears Akari’s going off as well.
ATTENTION EVERYONE. THE GREAT GOJO SATORU HAS AN ANNOUNCEMENT.
She noticed it was a group chat with everyone from Toyko and Kyoto in it for the most part. Some people who weren’t in the school anymore were there.
GOJO SATORU WHY AM I IN HERE? I THOUGHT I BLOCKED YOUR NUMBER.
She’s unsure of the woman who was in the chat but she didn’t seem happy at all.
I HAVE MY METHODS UTAHIME CHANNNN
“Speaking of Satoru.” The two girls sighed, looking at each other.
What am I doing here? Judging by the picture, it was Kento saying this.
Oh I’m sure it won’t be too bad! And then there was Yu.
Yu, don’t enable Satoru’s shenanigans. -Kento
I promise you that it’ll be fun!!! I even invited the Kyoto students here. -Satoru
Don’t tell me you brought that bad dye Zenin in here? -Kento
Oh no he’s not cool enough to be in here! -Satoru
Anyways, Sunday, you are all invited for a secret club. The first Kyoto-Toyko club ever made. All run by yours truly! -Satoru
I don’t like this. I don’t trust you -Utahime
We could always tag along. There’s some of us that are more responsible here -Akari
Yeah but you can’t keep Satoru on a leash. It’s not enough for him -Utahime
I mean, if it’s bad we could always leave? Shoko, you’re going right? -Akari
I guess. I’ll probably get dragged by Suguru and Satoru together. -Shoko
THAT WONT DO I HAVE TO MAKE SURE THEY AREN'T CORRUPTING YOU -Utahime
Great 😄 I’ll be so happy to see you! -Shoko
Rena chan!! you’ll come too right? -Satoru
Do I have to? -Rena
Pleaseeeee Rena you’ll get to see Suguru -Satoru
Don’t do anything you don’t want to, Rena -Kento
I’m not sure if I will be able to. I might have clan duties -Rena
Eh, old men are a stick in the mud. I can cause chaos to get you out if you need it, Rena chan :3 -Satoru
Satoru, that isn’t necessary. -Rena
It is needed if you can’t come :D! I have to make sure everyone is present -Satoru.
Rena let out a sigh, knowing that if she was seen with Satoru or even hanging with him, her father and the rest of her clan would probably end up having a fit. Even if he’s inheriting the clan he’s in, the Miyajimas had a lot of bad blood for Satoru Gojo. She probably would lose her head and this whole clan competition was super important to her father and her clan.
She sighs, texting back. She wanted to see Yu and Kento. Suguru too. She doesn’t get to see them enough. She’s always so busy in Kyoto.
I’ll think about it, Satoru. I can see if my schedule is open.
A sigh escaped Akari’s lips in disapproval, “That guy is something else. Is he really the guy who inherited the Six Eyes? I expected a lot more from him.”
Rena nodded, “It’s definitely him. My clan has spoken about him before. He’s been rather loud and immature during clan meetings.” She wanted to get to know him despite this, but her entire family would eat her alive if she even tried to breathe in Satoru’s general direction.
-Flashback-
“No more goofing off, Rena. Understood?”
“Yes, father.”
A younger Rena bowed to her father in respect. He was still an authority figure in her clan and a head.
“I can’t have you leaving the estate when you have important clan practices.” A cough came from the room of her parents, coming from her mother in the other room, “You have a duty to your family, to your clan. You mustn’t get caught in shenanigans, especially with that Gojo.”
“Is he really that bad?” Rena asked, knowing that her father would say that he probably was, “He’s supposed to be a head. That means he’s an equal to me.”
“No, you haven’t gotten that title yet. He’s an immature kid that has no manners. Has the Gojo clan really gotten rusty these days in their customs?” He rolls his eyes, “Oh is he unable to be good at anything aside from being a menace and his abilities?”
“But you are better than him.” He continues, “You have elegance and mannerisms. You’re told to talk when you’re spoken to at clan meetings and respect your elders because you know your place.” It was much harder for women to get in power, and she had to work harder than everyone else, “You don’t need someone like him ruining what you’ve worked for.” He patted her on the head, “Promise me you won’t try to approach him again.”
Rena slowly nodded, “I won’t approach him, father.”
“That’s my girl. Now come on, we better continue our training.”
-End Flashback-
“Rena! Rena!” Akari snapped Rena out of her vision, “Are you gonna go to this event?”
Rena looked over at her, “I think father might kill me if I hang with that guy.” She shifts awkwardly. It was bad enough that her dad thought that her performance in the exchange event was overshadowed by childish antics despite her performing well. She just wanted to make friends. What was so bad about that? Sure she has to abandon her emotions when she’s on duty, but she deserves to have someone around. She was happy that she was making friends here. She wanted to be around here.
“Your dad can’t stop you forever. You’re away from the household more. You should join. I’m curious.” Akari replies, “Besides, Satoru causing chaos might make your dad angry.”
Rena knew it would. She would rather not deal with that. She probably had to pick the harm reduction option. She rested a hand on her hip, “Okay, fine. I’ll go with you. It’s probably better than Satoru messing around in the estate.”
Akari nodded, giving Rena a soft smile, “I knew you would see it my way. Besides, aren’t you curious?”
Rena shrugs, “Of course I am. Gojo seems…interesting to say the least.” It’s true. She did want to at least see what he was about. She didn’t have to be friends with him. She could just watch.
XXXX
Rena was reading one of the books her father gave her at the desk. She’s read this part multiple times. The laws of jujutsu society. The history of the Miyajima clan and the society they had been entrusted to.
Yeah, as if they did nothing but good deeds. A sigh escaped her lips, closing it. She’s safe here. She doesn’t have her dad’s constant berating of making sure she stays on task. Her clan didn’t have duties at the school.
She noticed her phone buzzed, seeing that it was a text from Suguru.
Don’t leave me with that nutcase on Sunday. Please, I don't have a choice.
Rena laughs softly at his response, typing back to him.
I’ll be there, Sug! Akari talked me into it and I think it’ll be better to do it since he said he was gonna start some chaos to get me there.
Suguru replies back Thank god! I can’t stand being around that idiot. The first years are cool but I need someone I’m closer to. Do you want to go do something before?
Rena thought about it. If she catches herself up with enough paperwork at the clan she could be able to avoid any blowback from her father if she finishes her tasks early. She probably would have to keep herself up nearly all night on Friday night. It was worth it if she could see everyone.
I could squeeze it in. I’ll get ahead on some paperwork and other work I have to do for the clan and then I’ll let you know later in the week!
Sounds good, I’ll be looking forward to it!
Rena sighs, thankful that she has someone around that isn’t filled with clan customs. She wonders how freeing that kind of life is where you don’t have to worry about clan customs. It’s something she would never get to experience, but it would be nice thinking about it at least.
She sighed, laying on the bed, relaxing herself until her phone went off again. It’s her group chat with Yu and Kento.
Rena-san! Are you going Sunday? -Yu
It’s not like we have a choice. Satoru doesn’t need to be acting up and getting Rena in trouble -Kento
I’m going. Suguru and I are gonna hang out beforehand if you guys wanna join. -Rena.
She should probably ask Suguru if they can come along, but she’ll ask him later when she’s got an idea of what they want to do.
At least they’ll be someone with a braincell -Kento
Rena snickers, I mean, there’s those two girls too that were in the chat. Shoko and Utahime. They seem cool.
They have braincells too, but I’m sure Shoko is using it as a opportunity for a date :D -Yu
I guess? Bonding with others with Gojo around is a little difficult -Kento
:D It’ll be great Kento! They seem like they got their lives together and they’re so sweet! -Yu
I can’t wait for you to get a crush at some point. :D -Yu
Yu, that's a long time from now. -Kento
Yeah I know !! But I gotta play the best man role when you get married, I have best friend rights :D -Yu
IT’S TOO EARLY TO THINK ABOUT THAT -Kento
Rena laughed a little at that. Just let me know if you guys wanna come. I’ll ask Suguru-senpai if he’s willing to let you all tag along
Sweet please let us know. We’d love to come :D -Yu
I didn’t even say anything yet. -Kento
You don’t have to come if you don’t want to. -Rena
I won’t have a choice with Gojo around -Kento
I guess we’re both suffering then. -Rena
I’m sure it’ll be great! -Yu
Anywho, I’m going to bed. Talk to you guys tomorrow! -Rena
Okay good night Rena :D -Yu
See you! -Kento
Rena rolled into her bed shortly after changing her clothes, yawning as she laid there. It’ll probably be great to get herself ahead because then her father would be pleased that she’s taking her future job seriously. That would probably be the lighter note if she took that to the elders on Saturday. It will be ease some stress off her back.
XXXX
“You got all of this done so early?”
The elder at the desk looked shocked that so much paperwork had gotten done in such a short time.
Rena took a sip of her coffee, looking still tired, “Pushed myself to get ahead. With me dealing with schoolwork, clan work, and missions, I felt like it was a good idea to get ahead.” Rena gives out a smile to the person, handing her the documents. She actually had gone a little overboard and gotten way more done than she expected. It should secure some time for her at least.
“I see, you’re working hard to become the next heir, huh? The competition is really intense.” The woman looked through the documents, “Being a woman does set you back.”
Rena bites the inside of her cheek at that, “Yeah, father says I have to work twice as hard, and this counts too.” She shrugs, “I’m sure, it’s a lot of work, but I can do it.”
The woman set the papers aside, “Yes, you’ll have to jump hoops far more than the average person, but I supposed you got through a lot of it so far.”
Rena sighs, “So far, I know father and the other leaders are talking about an eventual fight with all the candidates involved. If I had been born a man, we probably wouldn’t be going through this.” She knows how much the other clans looked down on her for trying to change fate, but she was her father’s daughter, after all. She had to go through it.
“That’s true.” The elder responds, nodding “You probably would’ve gotten it instantly if you were born a man.”
She’s at least glad one of the elders wasn't too harsh to her. Dealing with the Kamo’s head was bad enough, and even bad enough mixed with the head of the Zenin clan. She knows there will be another clan meeting at some point. She probably would see Satoru there.
Which reminds her, she’s probably gonna have to act differently around him, but he seemed at least willing to converse with her? She’s pretty sure part of that was because of her relation to Suguru. Otherwise, she’s pretty sure Satoru wouldn’t give her the time of day.
“Yeah, I’ll be getting going now.” She smiles, “I’ll be back around in a few days.”
“Don’t take too long now.” The elder told her as she ran off.
XXXX
Rena sighed, waiting at the train station for Nitta to show up, flipping through her phone as she caught up with some messages. Haibara and Nanami had told her that they had some stuff to take care of so it was just going to be her and Suguru until they saw each other . While Akari was just wanting to check shops in Toyko. Rena hadn’t gotten to be in Toyko much so she couldn’t give recommendations unfortunately, but she’s sure she’s going to run into Akari since she and Suguru were gonna hang around for a bit. Toyko is such a huge town though that she hopes Nitta doesn’t need help at all.
“Rena!”
Rena turned over to see Akari waving to her, rushing over to her, “I’m sorry I kept you waiting. My brother kept me over for a bit.”
Rena shrugged off her apology, “It’s fine. Are you excited?”
“Of course I’m excited!” Akari points a finger with a bright smile, “Toyko is one of the most booming area. It’ll be nice to get out of all the regulations of Kyoto.”
Rena nodded at her words, “I heard the shops there are super cool and the thrift shops are something I could die for.” She chuckles. She’s glad at least one person from Kyoto school doesn’t have a stick up their ass.
“I didn’t expect to see you two here.”
Akari and Rena both turned to see the second year, Manami Suda walking over. She had a furry pink sweater and a blue tank top underneath and a matching pink skirt.
“Manami-senpai I almost didn’t recognize you.” Akari blinked as Manami stopped after standing a couple of feet away.
“Yeah, it’s odd to see me outside of school uniform, huh?” Manami laughed, “So you ladies are going to Toyko too?”
“Sure are! I was gonna check out some stores. I also wanted to grab a new camera.” Akari beamed.
“You do photography, Nitta-san?”
“Sure do! It’s a hobby of mine that I’ve been taking on for only a couple of months, but I want to map out my skills.” Akari grinned, punching her fist up in the air back and forth.
“Sweet, and Rena-san, what are you going to do?” Manami asks, turning to the red head.
“Probably hit up some thrift stores and some fabric stores. Suguru-senpai and I are gonna hang. I’ll get to see Yu and Kento as well.” Rena explained.
“I didn’t know you were into sewing things.”
“Oh yeah, the women in the Miyajima clan make the uniforms for all the clan members so I learned at a young age.” Rena explains, “I’ve been using it for things outside of the clan though. I learned how to make clothes because of the clan, but I do it purely as a hobby these days.” Since she didn’t have to be in with the other women, she had a bit more freedom to not get burnt out.
“Oh, you’ll have to show me your work at some point, Rena-san.” Minami says with a smile, “I’d love to see what you’ve made.”
Rena smiled at that shyly, scratching the back of her head, “I’m not really used to others being interested in my hobby. A lot of the clan members don’t like what I’ve created when they see my more casual clothes in the estate, but I think they don’t like new things.”
“I’m sure it’s not bad at all.”
“Yeah, Rena-san is really good at it! She showed me pictures once.” Akari told her as the train was ready to board.
“Well then, we better get going.” Manami smiles.
XXXX
“So how did you meet, Suguru-san, Rena?”
Rena looks at her senpai, leaning back in her seat, “It seems you two were well acquainted even before the exchange event.”
“Yeah we were.” Rena admits, “There was an incident in town. Some curses showed up and I was really the only sorcerer around. At least that’s what I thought until Suguru came in to help me. I had heard of him from other clan members but I never saw him in action till that day. It was six months ago. Suguru and I had talked after the incident and he wanted to give me his info. He said I was pretty hardcore for a middle school student.”
“Everyone talks about Suguru-senpai. It feels like he has his own fan club even though he’s a year ahead of us.” Akari sighs, “Still, I can’t believe you two hit it off.”
“Yeah, it’s hard to explain, but Suguru-senpai treated me a lot differently than others who meet me. People see me as a Miyajima first and not as myself. But Suguru-senpai didn’t do that.” Rena says. A sigh escaped her lips.
“He saw you as a normal person then.” Manami put a finger on her chin.
Rena nods at her words, “I think that’s the best way to describe it. The higher clans usually don’t take pride in being treated like that, but for me, it’s different.” She rested a hand on her cheek, “It feels freeing. If I told Naoya that though, he would probably laugh right in my face wanting to be friends with commoners.”
“But Suguru-senpai is different. Even though he didn’t come from a big shot clan, he’s on the road to being the second strongest sorcerer next to Satoru Gojo.” Akari points out.
“Yeah, but the clan says at least Suguru-senpai has respect for his elders.” Rena couldn’t help but crack a smile at the exchange event when Naoya had been jumped by him and Satoru-senpai, “They at least think of Suguru-senpai a lot better than Satoru-senpai.”
“That’s so cool though that he befriended you though. Seems like that meeting has a meaning around it.” Manami smiles, “Still, I understand why everyone is so crazy over Suguru. He’s a genius and he’s polite. He’s empathetic as well. It’s hard to not look up to him, you know?” Manami changes the subject for a second, “Say, Rena-san, you said something about how meeting people outside of the clans is freeing when they don’t treat you as a Miyajima. Was that the case with those two first years in Toyko?”
Rena blinks for a second but nods, “I think it was. Haibara still throws me off in being so nice, and Nanami, well, he doesn’t really seem like he cares entirely about the clans and where they rank. He probably would stand up to Naoya when no one else could.” It was because of Rena’s status that she could get away with it a bit. Not to mention Naoya isn’t really head yet.
“Nanami told me the other day that Haibara is a very good judge of character which is probably why he accepted me a lot better than the others probably would.”
“It sounds like Nanami is very trustworthy of Haibara’s instincts. They must’ve hit it off quickly.” Manami says.
“That’s what I think as well.” Rena nods, “Nanami and I have only known each other for a couple of weeks and I can tell he doesn’t trust or warm up to people that easily. It wouldn’t surprise me if Haibara befriended him because he thought he needed a friend or something.” Something that her and Nanami had in common.
“I think that’s why Haibara befriended you. He can probably tell that your upbringing was kind of lonely and wants you not to feel that way.” Manami explains.
Rena tenses for a second, as if she didn’t really want to come to that conclusion yet. She doesn’t like being read like this so she just sighs, “Maybe.” She tries switching the subject, “Anyways, enough of me, how have you been, Manami?”
“Not bad,” Manami admits, “but I do admit it’s a lot nicer with you two around.”
Rena wanted to comment on something but she didn’t want to unpack her situation. Maybe she should get a nap on this three hour train ride instead of having to unpack her entire life situation. It was hard to even really bring it up to Suguru. She doubts she could or even wanted to get all of that out right now. She doesn’t like opening up. Especially since the Miyajima clan tried teaching their clan members that closing yourself out is the better option so you don’t get attached.
Rena doesn’t want to think of this. She just wants to have fun today. She’s not gonna let this cloud her judgment. She deserved a day to enjoy herself even if Satoru was going to make them go on some crazy adventure.
She recognizes that look from Manami though. It’s one she’s had too, the feeling of being alone.
She sighs, “I’m glad.” She states plainly as Akari looked confused at her reaction but she doesn’t bring it into question. It was better that way.
The train ride goes as planned and the girls get off the train. They all walked with each other.
“Shall we take you to meet Suguru, Rena san?” Manami couldn’t help but keep the teasing smile on her face. However, Rena didn’t pick up on this.
“I don’t mind. I’m sure he wouldn’t mind seeing you two around.” Rena shrugs.
“Tell you what Nitta-san, you can come with me while Rena and Suguru are doing their thing.” Manami snickers as Akari nods.
“I will love the company! We can explore the city after we drop Rena over to Suguru.” Akari grins.
“Yeah, it sounds good!” Manami chuckles, gesturing at Rena to lead the way as her head was in her phone.
“Suguru says he’s not too far away.” Rena adjusts her red sunglasses, “Just east of here.”
“Okay,” Minami nodded, whispering to Akari, “Suguru really is whipped for Rena, don’t you think?”
“Yeah and that girl has zero clue. Although, at least it isn’t Satoru.” Akari whispers back as Rena didn’t hear from either one of them.
XXXX
Suguru had been waiting for Rena for just a little bit, checking to see his texts as he saw Rena had said she was in Toyko now. He smiles slightly, giving her the location and putting his phone back into his pocket. It was going to be a breath of fresh air having her around for the day, and even better that he wouldn’t be suffering alone in whatever grand scheme Satoru had planned. It was good to just hang out with her more now. Since she was a student at Kyoto, he probably would see her at joint training or even on missions. He wouldn’t mind working with her on a mission. She probably knows what she’s doing.
He looked over at his phone that buzzed again, looking to see Satoru’s text.
Ohhhh are you hanging with that cute red head from Kyoto? I didn’t know red heads were your type.
He slams his phone shut, groaning, stuffing his hands in his pockets. He doesn’t even know how Satoru was even able to figure out he was hanging out with her.
He notices three figures coming into view, recognizing that head that was filled with Red hair mixed with red tinted sunglasses. He waves over, getting their attention as they rushed over to him.
“Suguru-senpai, it’s nice to see you again!” Akari beams brightly. That’s at least who he thinks she is.
“Suguru-san.” Manami waves slightly.
“I didn’t think you two were going to be here.” Suguru responds
“Yeah, it was kind of short. I didn’t want to come to Toyko all by myself.” Akari replies.
“That’s understandable, it’s a pretty busy town and it’s easy to get lost in.” Suguru nods, looking over at Rena, “I’m glad you could make it.”
“Yeah me too.” She nods.
“Don’t get too caught up with Suguru, Rena, we’re going to that meeting with Satoru tonight okay?” Akari told her, waving. She and Minami were already heading out to check out some stuff.
“They seem like they’re in a hurry.” Suguru watches them leave.
“They’re just really excited.” Rena says, straightening herself out, “It’s okay. Is there anything you want to check out?”
“I am gonna head to the candy store to get something for Satoru or else he’s gonna wine extra.” Suguru replies as Rena giggles.
“Sounds like him. I remember when I met him and he wouldn’t stop showing me sweets.” Rena started walking with him in the streets.
Suguru raised his eyebrow, “When that guy had no personal space with you? Yeah that was annoying.”
“He just seems like that.” Rena scratches the back of her head, “Anyways, yeah, I’ll get something for Haibara and Nanami-san.”
“Oh yeah, I forgot you two exchanged numbers, how is it going? Are you guys getting along well?”
“It still throws me off that Haibara is so nice. The higher clans like formality, but I’ve never seen that kind of formality. It’s nice though.” She shrugged, “I think Nanami trusts Haibara’s judgment more than probably anyone though so I think that’s why he’s loosened up around me. He doesn’t seem like he does it with everyone.”
“I agree, it’s good to see him making more friends. He only really sticks to Yu. Satoru likes to harass him too. He calls him his favorite kohai.” Suguru replies.
“Yeah Kento mentioned that to me in mine and Yu’s chat. He told me it’s impossible to avoid Satoru once he’s kind of interested in you.” She says.
“That’s pretty spot on.” Suguru agrees, “He tends to do that with me too.”
“Your guys’ relationship seems more complicated than you claim.” Rena points out, raising an eyebrow.
Her judgment is pretty spot on there. Yeah, Suguru can’t stand Satoru some days but he definitely doesn’t hate him. Satoru is someone that he can rely on in missions whenever they’re working together to fight at least. They have a bond that no one really does.
“You two fight like an old married couple.” She says bluntly as she pushes the button to cross the street.
Suguru turned back to her, sighing, “It’s not like that.”
“Hmm are you sure about that?” Rena tilted her head to the side, barely containing a smile.
“Shut up.” Suguru sighs as Rena laughs. The crosswalk switching signs, allowing for them to go, “I’d rather not talk about him. How’s everything else going?”
“Um, about the same? There’s a competition in Kyoto in a couple of weeks where all the students show off their skills. All the higher clans are gonna be there so my family is going to be there. They expect me to make a grand performance.” She told them. Maybe she could get all the higher clans on her side? She knows that’s nearly impossible considering just how much the clans look down on her for just trying.
“Oh? Maybe if I don’t have anything going on, I can come and watch you perform? I could bring Nanami and Haibara too. Nanami doesn’t really like crowds.”
“It’s up to you all if you want to go.” It still feels weird that she’s actually being friends with people who were supposedly lower than her just based on her clan status. Even after a few months of being friends with Suguru, it still feels weird, but it's nice kind of weird.
“You don’t have to make room in your schedule for me.”
“Nonsense, Rena-san. we’re friends after all.” Suguru reassures her, “Plus I wanna see you kick Zenin’s ass.”
Rena nods, “I do want to take his ego down. We train often so if I get paired against him, I would probably be the best opponent. Naoya and I have known each other since we were kids.”
“I’m so sorry.” Suguru mutters. He pats his hand on her shoulder, “But if anyone can take him out other than Satoru or myself, it’s definitely you. You’re smart.”
“Yeah but Naoya is smart too. You guys got the upper hand because you two are the strongest.” Rena replies. Yes, Naoya wasn’t even close to these guys, but to the other classmates he was actually a force to be reckoned with. Naoya and Rena had also known each others’ tricks from growing up together as well so it was hard to tell.
Even though Naoya got on Rena’s nerves doesn’t mean she’s not gonna let that cloud her judgment. Naoya was perceived as a genius after all. A prodigy. There was a reason why he was the heir to the Zenin clan. He’s also able to outmaneuver others with his curse technique. It didn’t matter if you couldn’t land the blow. Out of him, Rena, and Akari, he was probably the fastest out of the three of them.
“He’s the heir to the Zenin clan for a reason.” Rena states as Suguru nods.
“Yeah, that’s why I know you’re going to do well. Even if you don’t win against Naoya, you could make it.” He says.
They had arrived at the shop just as they walked into it. They both got things for who they needed, stepping out of the shop.
They continued shopping and talking until it was time to head to the secret club meeting that Satoru was planning.
“I’ll text Manami-senpai and Akari and let them know we’re waiting for them.” Rena says, pulling out her phone to shoot a quick text.
XXXX
The four of them stood at the door to the club which was in Toyko Tech.
“Did Satoru even ask Yaga-sensei about this?” Suguru groans, “If he gets mad, I’m making Satoru take the blame.”
“I’m sure it’ll be fine. Satoru has done far more damage.”
Ryouta had been standing behind them, resting her back on the wall.
“If he doesn’t cause a wreck. I can’t believe he roped the Kyoto students into this too.” Ryouta rolled her eyes, “I expected better from Miyajima.”
“Oh I’m just here to see everyone, not Satoru.” Rena replies, “Besides, aren’t you getting roped into this Ryouta-senpai?”
Ryouta scoffed, “I’m not here for Satoru.” In all honesty, Ryouta wouldn’t admit it but she came here so she can see Rena again, and to keep Satoru from dragging her publicly. She threatened to hit him for real if he tried but that doesn’t mean Satoru wouldn’t try.
“Oh are you here for Suguru then?” Manami asks.
“Don’t be ridiculous.” Okay, maybe that was also true but it wasn’t like Ryouta had to tell them, “I don’t have to tell you why.”
“I think she wants to be friends.” Manami smiles.
Ryouta groans, rolling her eyes at the Kyoto second year, “Sure, sure.” Let them believe what they want.
Rena kind of wishes she would’ve known Ryouta would’ve been here or she would’ve bought her some sweets too.
“I’m walking out if he causes anything.”
Rena squashes a giggle that threatens to burst from her throat, noticing Haibara and Nanami approaching them.
“Oi, Rena-san! It’s good to see you made it!” Haibara grinned, walking over to her, “Did you guys have fun? Sorry I forgot that I had to do some things today, but we’ll totally hang out the next you’re here.” He shoots a thumbs up at her.
Rena smiled. Her face softens, “It’s good to see you too, Haibara.” She looks over at Nanami, offering a smile to him as well, “Same to you, Nanami.”
Nanami didn’t look like he wanted to be here at all though, but he nods at Rena’s words, “Can we go if Satoru pulls something crazy? I don’t want to deal with Yaga-sensei getting mad.”
“Oh, if he pulls something crazy, I’m dipping.” Ryouta says, “I don’t want to deal with him anymore if I don’t have to. He loves keeping us in suspense.”
“Seems like he is trying to act out a novel.” Nitta admits as Nanami snorted at her comment.
“Sounds like? More like he does.” Nanami adds.
Rena sighs, “Well all we can do is deal with the suspense. I bet he’s trying to figure out his own personal entrance.” Which reminds her, “Oi, Nanami, Haibara, I got you guys something.”
She offered two candy bags that had a variety, “I would keep it away from Satoru though. He might devoured them.”
“Oh this is so nice, Rena-san!” Haibara beams, pulling out one of the chocolate covered pretzel sticks, biting into it.
“You didn’t have to.” Nanami says, looking at the bag, “but thank you.” A small smile tugged on his lips.
Rena gave him a smile back, “Of course,.” She at least thinks of them in a bright light, but it’s true, they’re friends of hers now too.
“LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, WE HAVE A BIG SURPRISE FOR YOU!”
“He thinks of this as a performance.” Akari deadpanned as the lights dimmed from the other room.
“OH BUT IT IS, NITTA-CHAN!”
Akari nearly jumps as the door swings open, “Welcome to club everyone.” Gojo adjusts his sunglasses, “And we can’t forget our Kyoto guests! Thank you so much for coming out.”
“I regret everything.” Nanami sighs, “This school is actual hell.”
Everyone else didn’t seem like they were excited as Gojo was. Both Shoko and Utahime had just approached the group. Utahime didn’t like
“I’m leaving.” Utahime says, as Shoko tugs her wrist.
“If i have to stay here, so do you.”
“Fine.” Utahime huffs, “But I’m only making sure none of the girls get corrupted by that menace.”
“This place is a fucking nightmare.” Ryouta places a hand on her forehead.
“Oh it’s not too bad. We could be dealing with far more. Let’s go see what it is.” Haibara starts walking into the room.
“See, I know I could count you in, Haibara-san.” Gojo beams happily, wrapping his arm around the boy’s shoulders.
“Don’t encourage him, Haibara.” Nanami sighs, going in to follow Haibara. Rena ends up joining in as well and the others follow suit, much to their dismay.
The room is decorated as if there was a celebration. There’s more chairs in this room than usual, probably because there’s only usually three students for every year. There’s also a seat for two people.
“Great, is there an escape?” Nanami asked.
“Maybe if we ignore him, he’ll go away.” Ryouta says.
“WELCOME TO THE FIRST KYOTO TO TOYKO CLUB! I’M YOUR HEAD SATORU GOJO!” He proudly slams his hands on the desk, “NOW WHAT CLUB ARE WE DOING TODAY? WELL JUST IN LUCK” He blows a whistle in celebration, “WE ARE DEDICATING THIS CLUB TO HATING NAOYA ZENIN!”
“You know, that’s better than I expected.” Ryouta remarks.
“It is a tempting club!” Manami puts a finger on her chin.
“I mean, if anyone deserves hating, it’s that guy.” Akari admits.
“And let me guess, you want me to run this club with you?” Suguru tilts his head, “Not saying I wouldn’t join, but I would like some warning.”
“Actually no, I was thinking someone else could be a cohead with me.” He looks over at the familiar redhead in the crowd, “MIYAJIMA-CHANNNNN”
“I’m leaving.” Rena says, “Who’s with me?”
“DON’T BE MEAN MIYAJIMA-CHAN! THIS IS A GOOD OPPORTUNITY TO PUT YOUR PENT UP ANGER TO THE TEST!” Gojo tells her, beaming.
“WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU BABBLING ABOUT? YOU CANNOT START CORRUPTING HER.” Utahime yells.
“He did say a club against Naoya.” Shoko thinks for a second, “Think about it, Naoya is definitely worse than Satoru. Besides, I’ll get to see you more.”
“Hmm, only if that Miyajima girl is the co host. That way we aren’t outnumbered.” Utahime sighs, knowing well she couldn’t say no to seeing Shoko more. But she was gonna watch out for that girl. No way is she letting Gojo corrupt her.
“Why do I feel like the pressure is on me all of a sudden?” Rena sighs.
“Well Ieri-senpai has a point.” Nanami mutters to her, “I don’t think he’ll stop bothering us until we agree.”
Rena groaned, knowing her new friend had a point, “Great, fine.” It looks like she was kind of stuck in this, as well as the rest of them. She looked at Suguru, “Did you have anything to do with this?”
Suguru smiles, acting innocent, “Oh come on, Rena-san, I wouldn’t do that.”
“It’s been really refreshing to see how Shoko and Suguru have gotten to agree so that leaves you all to agree.” He jumps over to Rena, grinning into her face, “What do you saaaay, Miyajimaaa-channnn?”
Rena was taken by surprised just how quickly he moved over to her and just lets out a heavy sigh, “Fine, Satoru Gojo, you have a deal.”
This would be the first time Rena Miyajima realize that it’s hard to shake Satoru Gojo off once he’s interested in you.
