Chapter Text

Dream can only watch with a detected, cold interest as the video on his phone plays over and over.

When he got the message from his best friend, he really didn't expect much. He and Sapnap had been drifting apart for months now, and Dream was never really sure why, but he was happy to see his friend reaching out to him again.

He clicked play on the video Sapnap sent him with no hesitation, and was met with Technos raspy voice and Sapnaps lewd moans.

That was when the dread set in, and his veins froze to ice.

Point taken then, Dream guessed as he finally tore his eyes away from the video and threw his phone against the bedroom wall, not blinking at the loud slam, or as the screen shattered.

Not allowing himself to think, forcing himself to stay in that detached mind place, Dream tore through his and Technos apartment as he packed his bags, taking all the evidence of his life that he could.

If Techno wanted him out of his life, Dream would happily go. Certainly no arguments from him.

His icy exterior only cracks when Dream is standing in their kitchen, a bag over his shoulder and a luggage case in hand. He looks down at his free left hand, at the shiny gold and emerald ring sat there, and he feels himself break.

They were going to get married.

Dream sobs to himself as he slowly pulls the ring off.

Techno proposed to him quietly on a Friday evening after a family dinner. He hesitantly pulled the most gorgeous ring Dream had ever seen out of his pocket and held it up to Dream, looking at him like he was the most precious person in the world.

It was his mother's engagement ring.

Now, Dream places it on the kitchen counter with no note. It's the only proof he ever existed in this place apart from the stories in the walls that apparently only he remembers.

Dream leaves silent and crying. Not a storm of rage and revenge as he'd like to be. Because what's the point when he's been ignoring that all this time, Techno had been in love with his best friend.

He ignored the sad, longing look they gave each other after Dream announced their engagement, and he ignored Techno sneaking out more and more, all because he wanted to believe it could work. That things would fix themselves.

And now that the rose coloured glasses have been ripped off his eyes, the truth revealed in a shattered phone screen, Dream can't help but wonder if it's his own damn fault.
