Chapter Text
Wonwoo briefly drags Mingyu out of the cafe trusting Seokmin to watch his kid.
“You cannot just ask me out in front of my kid and expect a yes out of pressure,” Wonwoo sighs.
Mingyu has a sense of panic now. That was his last intention to make Wonwoo guilted into a yes. He begs for an apology which Wonwoo immediately accepts, obviously uncomfortable.
Wonwoo also admits the truth, “I don’t know if I’m ready, ready to start dating again. Especially our situation. I kinda, am in control of you. There’s also, Jihoon, can you I don’t know…”
Mingyu can see the gears turning in Wonwoo’s brain. His own is happening too. It’ll be Mingyu’s first giant relationship if it ever happened. God there’s a kid involved. Not to mention he doesn’t even fully know how to comprehend the fact Wonwoo is very much his supervisor. Literally, watches of him and his career.
Mingyu comes up with a solution, “What if we did a trial period? Like dating for only a month and going from there?”
Wonwoo shakes his head and admits about his fears. Their feet planted on the ground. That’s when Jihoon comes storming out obviously mad about something. Maybe it's the sugar crash, either way Wonwoo can see the displeasure of the boy.
“Are you ready to go home buddy?”
The kid nods his head immediately after being picked up. Wonwoo shoots Mingyu a wave and leaves him at the cafe. Mingyu is confused about everything.
“Pa, you know Seungcheol’s daddy is dating someone?” Jihoon’s tiny voice comes from the backseat, “Are you gonna date mister?”
Wonwoo sighs looking at his son through the mirror, “Do you want me too?”
Jihoon nods his head explaining that Seungcheol’s father seems to be happier dating. Which Wonwoo likes to add on, what the hell do children discuss? Either way now the thought is pigmented in his mind.
Briefly he thinks of the relationship with Soonyoung that was too hectic in scheduling. Granted Jihoon had been incredibly young, and babies run on no schedules. Wonwoo had the same fears when he began dating Soonyoung if Jihoon would hold it back, and he hates to admit how true it was.
Wonwoo hates to admit the stall on his life that Jihoon had created. He loves Jihoon with all he can muster but there’s always been a connection missing. The father knows his son notices. Wonwoo can only hope that their relationship fixes before it alters Jihoon's trajectory forever. Maybe just maybe Mingyu will be good, his childlike personality will help Wonwoo loosen. Be better at communication and break him out of his bubble.
“How do you really want me to go after Mister Mingyu?” Wonwoo asks. Jihoon’s nod is enough for Wonwoo to send out a message to Mingyu apologizing and saying yes to the date at a stop light.
To say Kim Mingyu is terrified is an understatement. He finally gets to go out with Wonwoo whom he’s liked for a little over a year. He’s not fully sure where to begin. Dinner, Wownoo would probably like somewhere fancy he guesses. The man is always dressed in formal soa. reservation is made.
“Why can’t I come!” Jihoon whines angry at the predicament.
Soonyoung tries his best to distract him, “Do you want to go on a date with me and Seokies date?”
The kid seems to weigh his options, italmost works until the doorbell rings at its Mingyu. He looks incredibly put together, Wonwoo recounts and looks at himself. He’s barely dressed, only his dress pants on.
“Oh,” Mingyu lets out. Which makes Wonwoo flustered and shuts the door back on him. Soonyoung lightly laughs as the older man runs back to his room and slams the door.
Soonyoung lets Mingyu into the apartment and apologizes for Wonwoo.
Jihoon’s frame perks up upon seeing Mingyu, “Mister can’t I come with you?”
Jihoon’s hands grasping around the pant leg of him. It is incredibly hard to deny. Mingyu, upon carrying Jihoon, lightly pats on Wonwoo’s door.
“Do you want Jihoon to come with us? I’m fine with it. It’s a fancy restaurant though.”
Wonwoo makes out a meek yes, still obviously embarrassed. The six year old seems to brighten at this.
When they finally arrive at the dinner they’re almost late. Quickly they apologize to the host as he leads them to the sitting arrangement. Everyone in the dinner hall quietly flustered at the little boy sitting in a chair that was added to the table.
Wonwoo feels a bit warm seeing Mingyu interact and read Jihoon the menu. The way his son brightens around the other man makes him slightly believe this could work.
Both Wonwoo and Mingyu decide to go without the wine. Instead water for the adults and Jihoon with some fancy soda because they’re was no Coke much to his displeasure.
It’s obvious that neither is really what to discuss. They’re around each other most days, one of them always following the other. Jihoon also not talking makes the dinner seem a lot more awkward too. Hell, if the child can’t make conversation how does Wonwoo?
Mingyu begins to ask, “How did you decide to become a manager?”
“I, I wanted to be a musician but that quickly fell apart as I got too busy,” Wonwoo musters obviously surprised and stares a little bit at his son.
Mingyu takes a nod and offers to Wonwoo to come into his studio at any time and try out music again. Jihoon follows suit, asking if he can, to which Mingyu happily accepts.
The dinner seems to become better after this. Their food arrives easing the need for conversation. Again Mingyu takes initiative and cuts Jihoon’s food for him and teaches him how to. It slightly makes Wonwoo wish he could do that too.
Arriving home is nice, it’s plain music playing in the car as Jihoon is curled up between them in the cab sleeping.
Wonwoo speaks his mind, “You’re so good with him. Better than me.”
Mingyu takes note of this insecurity and holds his hand apprehensively, “You can be too,” he says.
It’s enough for the father to know someone believes in his abilities. Wonwoo slightly looks over at Mingyu who’s staring out the window now still holding his hand. It’s enough to make Wonwoo feel warm and stupid in admiration.
Mingyu too feels his face heat up upon the gazing. Maybe there's hope for the two.
