Chapter 20: cuddles at midnight

Summary:

Polylazulight my beloved

Chapter Text

Elira was a big cuddler. The moment Finana or Pomu was in her arms, they would be stuck for hours. Not that they weren’t willing. Elira’s arms were the perfect mix between soft and strong, an embrace that would cause a back to crack and all the air wrung out from the lungs. Elira had a high demand for hugs, and an even greater supply.

“It’s too warm,” Pomu moaned, rolling over on the bed to find a cooler spot on the mattress. She was glad the bed was so big, she hadn’t run out of cold spots yet.

“Please?” Elira begged, even as she sweated in her shorts and tank top. “Just for an hour?”

“I’ll melt!” Pomu said dramatically, saying something incomprehensible into a pillow. “You’ll kill me, Elira!”

Elira pouted, climbing onto the bed next to her. “We can ask Finana to buy ice cream on the way home.” Her arms were already wrapping around Pomu’s waist, letting the fairy rest her head on one defined bicep dotted with blue scales and hosting a large fading bite mark. Pomu was pretty sure Finana had put it there.

“You text her then,” Pomu groused, fumbling for the fan’s controller and setting it even higher. It whirred in protest, barely kicking up a cold breeze. Heat always made Pomu grumpy, it made her wings all strange due to the humid air.

“Fine, fine, I will,” Elira pulled her phone out, other arm resting over Pomu’s waist. Both of them could see the screen, how Elira was fumbling and could barely scroll from her sweaty fingers. “What flavor?” She asked, clicking on Finana’s contact. Her name had a bunch of cute emojis and hearts. It made Pomu smile.

“Does Finana know her name is like that?” Pomu asked sleepily, not hearing Elira very well.

“She chose it,” Elira pressed a kiss to Pomu’s scalp, nudging her back on track. “Do you want chocolate?”

“Mmmph,” Pomu rolled over, burying her face into Elira’s collarbone. “Elira flavored.”

“Please don’t make me an ice cream flavor,” Elira deadpanned, the beginning of the request already typed out. “You two would be the only ones to buy it.”

“Don’ sell you’self short,” Pomu mumbled.

“Okay then, I’ll ask for strawberry.” Elira was halfway through typing the rest of it before Pomu lightly slapped her broad shoulder, whining.

“Nooo, I want Finana.”

“Finana’s not a flavor either!” Elira laughed, lightly scratching the back of Pomu’s head. “Just go to sleep, I’ll wake you up for ice cream.”

Pomu squinted at her, pouting adorably. “You can’t make me do anything.”

“Already know that, love,” Elira said, smiling at the unintelligible string of emojis Finana sent back. “Good night.”

“Good night,” Pomu muttered, and promptly passed out. Elira hummed something she had heard on the radio, rumbling purrs mixing in with the tune. She heard the front door open with a creak, smiling softly as it let in not only a cool breeze, but her favorite fish.

“Hey Finana,” She said lowly as Finana walked in, carrying a white bag and three plastic spoons. “Hop in.”

“But it’s so fucking hot, how are you still alive?” Finana asked, walking over to the window and opening it. More cool air rushed into the room. Finana turned the dying fan off, putting it out of its misery.

“I didn’t know it had cooled down outside,” Elira said as Pomu shifted in response to the cooler temperature.

“Still want ice cream?” Finana sat down on the bed, scooching over to lean back against the pillows, taking out the tub of icy strawberry goodness.

“Horrible question, you know the answer,” Elira grinned, shaking Pomu’s shoulder lightly to wake her up.

“Noo, no pickles please,” Pomu said, eyes still closed.

“Not going to say anything about that,” Finana decided, popping the lid open and scooping out a solid spoonful. “You want me to feed you, Ewiwa?” She asked teasingly, waving the spoon in front of Elira. Elira eyed it, then lunged forward, taking the whole implement between her teeth.

“Fank you,” She said through the cold mouthful, mindful to keep it away from her teeth. Elira hated brain freezes.

“You’re welcome,” Finana said, using another spoon for herself.

This was nice, Elira thought, accepting another spoonful of ice cream from Finana as Pomu dozed off in her arms. Pomu’s going to hate us for not feeding her ice cream though.
