Chapter Text
“So, what have we figured out so far?”
The group of heroes had returned from their separate journeys after a long and stressful 4 hours wandering in the Moorlands. As Chat Noir observes his three partners after they recharged their powers, he can tell that they were starting to run a little low on energy, probably because unlike Plagg, their Kwamis had been busy trying to fix whatever’s going on in this place for a whole day now.
Faon Vert lets out a sigh, a now empty satchel of water in his hands given to him by Lunam Lupus, who had the time to collect some drinking water before the time limit.
It’s… really hot here… Chat’s lucky that he doesn’t have his sleeves on in this outfit…
(Although the fact that the other boys didn’t have much fabric on them in general made Chat feel more unlucky but let’s not dwell on that.)
“I guess I’ll debrief you guys first?” Faon volunteers as he looks around the group with after one last gulp of water. “There was a giant ravine a couple minutes away from the start of the forest. When I fell into it-”
“You fell into it?” Lapin asks, worried.
Faon nods. “Yeah, and when I fell-”
“Were you hurt?” Lupus interrupts.
Faon lets out a huff. “ No , I’m fine! This isn’t my first time being a hero, guys.”
“But you haven’t fought in a while,” Lupus reminds, his tail languidly swishing around behind him.
Faon rolls his eyes. “Anyways, when I safely fell down the ravine, I found a nest with a young dragon hanging out in it.”
“A-A dragon?” Lapin repeats with wide eyes, Faon nods.
“Yeah,” he confirms. “A green one, to those who don’t read fantasy stuff, that means that they spit poison instead of fire.”
Lupus nods, taking the info in. “What happened next?” he asks.
Faon shrugs. “I sort of killed it out of self defense.”
“Did you see the one who laid the egg?” Lupus asks again.
Faon shakes his head. “No, but judging by how the nest was built on the side of a seemingly bottomless ravine, the parent dragon must be very strong, way more strong than the one I fought.”
Lupus hums.
“That coincides with what I heard from a few inhabitants in the area,” he begins with his own story. “I discovered a hidden alcove somewhere near here that had a couple faeries living in it. They told me that Maleficent, the Queen in the movies, has been replaced by a new ruler.”
“You think that the new leader is the adult dragon Faon talked about?” Lapin asks with a frown.
Lupus nods.
Chat stands by the side, listening to the boys discuss their next move, he wanted to participate, but the three of them were talking so quickly, it’s as if they’ve been fighting together for years now, and Chat can’t even get a word in edgewise.
“Have you guys fought together before?” He ends up asking out loud, interrupting the others’ conversation.
The wolf, rabbit, and deer heroes look up, staring at Chat with indecipherable looks.
“We did… Once,” Lapin answers slowly.
“It was an Akuma that could break into different dimensions,” Lupus explains with a snarl. “Some fucker who wanted to find a universe where you were in love with him.”
“I hitched a ride with him through the dimensions,” Faon continued with a sigh. “Fucked up his travel destination and ended up breaking reality.”
“It’s a long story…” Lapin finished with a solemn look. “Still… It’s because of that, the three of us were able to become friends.”
Chat blinks, he had absolutely no memory of the dimension shattering Akuma that they mentioned at all. Is that because of his mixed up identity? Or is it something larger than that?
“Wait,” the blond starts with a confused frown. “So you guys stopped the Akuma and returned things to normal, but you were still able to contact each other?”
Faon snorts.
“What, you expect us to forget everything like typical crossover cliches?” He asks with a smirk. “Movies with endings like those are always such letdowns.”
“If we forgot, we wouldn’t have been able to make this for you,” Lapin says with a smile of his own. “So… We didn’t.”
Lupus rolls his eyes. “Stop taking credit from Yuuki, he used a lot of his strength to maintain the pack connection.”
Chat turns to the Wolf Hero. “So Yuuki did this…?”
Lupus lets out a smug grin with a hint of fang. “Yuuki is the Kwami of Devotion after all. All Kwamis and their Holders belong to his pack, regardless of what dimension they’re in.”
“Long story short, the Akuma was a pain, but no one was able to hurt you while we were around,” Faon summarizes with a bright smile.
Chat feels his cheeks reddening as his eyes dart between the three boys in front of him.
God, his heart won’t be able to handle this anymore if this continues.
“Anyways,” Lupus diverts the attention from the blond by clearing his throat. “Lapin, you haven’t given us your scout report yet.”
“Oh!” Lapin jumps slightly with wide eyes. “U-Umm… There weren't many things in the direction where I went, only grass and trees and stuff.”
“Did you fight any enemies?” Faon asks.
Lapin nods. “Yeah, an old lady, I think she was a witch.”
“Witch?” Lupus asks with a raised brow. “What kind?”
“Um, well…” Lapin nervously bites his lip. “She had a house with legs.”
“ Seriously?” Faon says with wide eyes. “That’s really cool.”
“And really dangerous,” Lupus adds with a frown. “That sounds a lot like Baba Yaga, she's bad news and you’re lucky you survived.”
Lapin gulps.
“I… didn’t know she was such a threat, once the house was taken down, she was kind of easy to beat,” he mutters, before reaching into one of his pouches. From it, he takes out what seems to be a glass monocle dangling from a chain.
“She gave me this in exchange for sparing her life,” he says with a shrug. “Not like I wasn’t planning to do it anyways.”
“Technically, none of the living creatures in here are actually ‘alive’,” Faon brings up. “It’s literally a figment of our Imagination, the only ones really alive are us.”
“Still, whatever they are, they believe that they are alive,” Lupus sighs. “Which means imagination or not, they will fight as if their lives are in danger.”
“What does the monocle do anyways?” Chat asks.
Lapin shrugs, holding the accessory out for Chat to hold. The item feels smooth in the blond’s hand.
“The witch said that the focal point is in a castle here somewhere,” the Rabbit Hero explains. “But it’s hidden with some kind of magic that only this thing can see.”
“Really?” Chat asks with a frown.
“Have you tried looking through it?” Lupus asks.
Lapin nods. “Yeah, but I couldn’t see anything.”
Flipping the lens around in his hand, the blond takes a deep breath before holding the lens up to his right eye.
Immediately, his surroundings lose all color.
“Wh-” Chat says in surprise before leaning away from the lens.
“Something wrong?” Faon asks worriedly.
“What did you see?” Lupus asks.
Blinking in confusion, Chat looks at the monocle for a second before putting it back to his eye again.
Just like before, whatever he sees through the lens loses all color, as if he was watching a classic black and white movie. The only exceptions are the boys around him, who retained their natural colors and are staring at him in confusion.
“This is so weird,” Chat mutters, looking turning around to see-
A giant castle in the distance, rising way above the trees, the huge structure was completely undetectable when they first arrived on the island. Yet it’s here now, clear as day, and unlike his surroundings, it even retained its color through the monocle.
“Chat, what do you see?” Lupus’ words snap the blond out of his surprise as he turns to face the canine hero.
“What do you mean?” Chat asks. “Do you not see the castle over there?”
Lupus tilts his head in confusion.
“Castle?” Faon asks in bewilderment, warily looking around his surroundings.
“I don’t see a castle,” Lapin says with a frown. “Even when I used the monocle…”
Chat gulps, looking down at the monocle in his hands.
“I-I think the castle is hidden not only from sight...” Chat says with a frown, looking up at his partners. “But also from all of you.”
“But why only have it visible to you ?” Faon asks impatiently.
“If I had to guess…” Lupus mused with a frown on his face. “Because Chat didn’t have anything to do with the dimension’s creation, maybe it sees him as less of a threat than us? Which is why he can see the castle?”
Foan and Lapin thought about it, and reluctantly nodded in agreement with the wolf. It did make sense. Unfortunately.
Biting his lip in frustration, Chat looks back through the monocle again.
Sure enough, the castle is still there.
“Follow me,” Chat says as he begins walking in the direction of the structure.
The three boys share a concerned look with each other, before deciding to let Chat take the lead, letting the blond lead them through the forest.
“Faon, keep an ear out for any sounds like footsteps or wing flaps,” Lupus instructs, receiving a salute from Faon before turning to Lapin.
“Lapin, stay next to Faon so that when he hears something, you’ll be the first to know.”
The Rabbit Hero nods, quickly changing formation.
Before Chat knows it, Lupus is standing right beside him. Almost unbearably close.
“Watch your step,” the Wolf Hero says gently, the tone of voice different from when he was commanding the other two as he scans their surroundings with keen eyes.
Chat gulps, and nods…
Before promptly tripping.
Immediately a hand reaches out and grabs him, pulling him back to his feet.
“What did I just say, Kitten?” Lupus murmurs, sending chills down Chat’s spine.
He gulps again.
“S-Sorry, was uh… distracted,” he whimpered.
Faon huffs, turning to his partner. “Hey, Thumper, watch your steps,” He says, lowering his voice in a poorly imitated growl to sound like Lupus.
Lapin rolls his eyes. “Not the time Faon.”
“Best keep the good boy act going, Bambi,” Lupus teases Faon with a slight grin, hand still gripping Chat’s arm steadily. “Feral doesn’t suit you.”
As the four teens make their way through the forest with Chat leading the charge, they make sure that they are as stealthy as possible, ducking past every branch, bush, and random holes in the ground without much trouble.
Until they suddenly arrive at their next challenge.
“Is this… A wall?” Faon asks out loud in surprise.
Unable to be seen from where they started, the way to the castle is barricaded with what looks to be a giant wall of thorny vines. Except the vines are thicker than the forearms of everyone here (not that Chat has been checking out anyone’s forearms of course). The thorns itself look so sharp that it might be able to slice through metal.
“This was like in the movies…” Faon realizes with wide eyes. “Maleficent surrounds the Moorlands with thorny walls to ward off intruders…”
The Deer Hero reaches out with a curious tilt of his head. “But, why is it in the middle of it this time?”
“ STOP! ”
Lupus yanks Faon back by his hood, causing the latter to yelp.
“ Ow! Ack-!” Faon gags as the fabric tightens against his throat, shooting Lupus a glare.
“We might be dealing with a poison dragon, right?” Lupus asks.
Faon’s eyes quickly widened in realization. “Y-You think they’re poisonous?” He asks.
“Wasn’t Maleficent from a fairy tale of a princess who went to sleep?” Lapin asks.
Faon nods again. “Y-Yeah, Maleficent wasn’t invited to the christening of Princess Aurora, so she cursed her to fall asleep when she turned sixteen,” he explains.
“The curse was more specific than that," Lupus says, turning to face the vines with sharp eyes. “When Princess Aurora turns sixteen, she will prick her finger on the spindle of a spinning wheel, and fall into a sleep-like death, a sleep that she will never awaken from…”
“But does that apply to thorns …?” Lapin asks skeptically.
Lupus sighs. “I don’t know, and I don’t want to find out.”
Chat frowns, turning back to the giant wall of vines.
Hmm…
“We need to find a way to get past this,” Lupus mutters.
“I can probably fly us over,” Faon suggests. “Make a helicopter with my Mind’s Eye.”
“A helicopter might be too loud…” Lapin says. “We should try to be as quiet as possible. Maybe Lupus’ wolves wouldn’t mind carrying us across?”
“My Wolf Pack won’t obey suicide missions,” Lupus says with a shake of his head. “Especially obvious ones like climbing up a possibly poisoned spike wall.”
“So what, we need to cut our way across?” Faon says with snort.
Chat holds up his arm.
“Cataclysm!” He shouts, diving for the wall of thorns.
“CHAT!” The three teens shouted in surprise, but it was too late. Chat’s palm grazes a part of the wall, destructive energy coursing all over a section of it before instantly turning it into dust. A medium sized hole left in place of where Chat’s Cataclysm touched, enough for a person to go through at a time.
Chat smiles, turning back to the rest.
“It worked! Guys it-”
“What the hell did you do that for?” Faon snaps, annoyed.
“You could’ve gotten hurt,” Lapin says with a frown.
Lupus just glares, tail swishing angrily behind him.
Uh-oh.
Chat’s smile turns sheepish.
“S-Sorry, I just- I knew that if I said it you guys would say no,” he explains. “And we don’t really have time for that…”
Faon lets out a huff.
“Did you cut yourself?” He asks with a grave look on his face.
Chat gulps, but shakes his head.
Faon sighs.
“Then good job, I guess…” he mutters.
Lupus and Lapin turn to him with a frustrated expression.
“What?” Faon says with a sour look. “I don’t like that he did it, but there’s no point in being mad now , especially since his plan worked out.”
The other two then turn to look at each other. Lapin seems to be calming down a little more, but Lupus still looks stubbornly mad at how the situation unfolded.
“We’ll talk about this later,” Lupus growls, shooting Adrien a protective side eye before walking ahead, ducking past the vines and making his way through to the other side.
Faon and Lapin followed suit, each of them shooting the blond different looks before crouching over slightly to walk past the hole. Chat goes through last, feeling his ears flattened on top of his head out of shame.
"This is stupid ," he thinks to himself with a pout. " I made the right call, so why do I still feel so bad about it?"
“Hey Chat,” Faon asks, breaking the blond out of his thoughts.
“Y-Yeah?” He returns.
“Is this the castle that you were talking about?”
Frowning in confusion, Chat turns to look in front of him.
Sure enough, the Castle is standing almost in front of them. Impressive stone walls standing tall and firm, with vines, moss, and other foliage growing all around them. The castle itself was impressive, kind of medieval in its design, except with a couple of holes in them, almost as if the castle itself had been under siege, pelted with ammunition from a cat -apult.
Chat blinks, looking up at the castle, then once again through the monocle.
It looks exactly the same.
“Y-Yeah,” he says with a gulp, turning to look at his partners. “So, now you guys can see it too?”
Lapin nods.
“Maybe destroying the wall broke the invisibility spell?” Lapin suggests. “It was there before you used your Cataclysm after all.”
“Come on,” Lupus instructs with a frown. “The way to the entrance is here.”
As soon as he says that, he walks away, Lapin in tow, leaving Chat with Faon for a moment.
Chat sighs.
“Faon, did I mess up?” He asks the brunet with a pout.
Faon snorts.
“On a scale of 1-10? I’d say about a 3,” he says before nodding at the retreating form of the Wolf Hero.
“On Lupus’ scale though? Probably an 11,” he adds, causing Chat to pout harder.
“I-I just thought that I would save us some time…” he excuses. “You all said that the longer the island stays standing, the more out of control it gets, so…”
“I get that," Faon says in understanding. “But Lupus doesn’t like impulsive actions like what you did. I mean, he understands calculated risks, but not when you are the one he’s risking.”
The boy glances back at the broken thorn wall with a distant look.
“Sure, we might’ve objected to you touching the vines, but better we take our time than you hurting yourself and being poisoned, right?” He says.
Chat lets out a sigh, rubbing one of his arms in slight embarrassment.
"Of course they would think that," he thinks to himself. " I’m more than just a partner to them after all."
“Still,” Faon starts again, interrupting the blond’s thoughts. “I don’t think wolfy’s mad at you, he’s probably just mad that he didn’t get to stop you in time.”
Chat snorts, then realizes that Faon wasn’t joking.
“Oh, uh, I see…” He says weakly.
Faon nods, turning to look at the castle.
“We should hurry and follow them,” he says. “It’ll be bad to split the party after all.”
Giving a hasty voice of agreement, the two of them quickly jogged up to the other two, who had seemed to be in a serious conversation before noticing that they caught up.
Chat turns to Faon, noticing the Deer Hero shooting the other two disapproving looks. The Cat Hero wonders if Faon could’ve heard the others’ conversation before they arrived, and if he could, what exactly did they hear.
Unfortunately, they didn’t have much time to dwell on that. As the next thing that stands in their way to the focal arrives.
A giant door leading into the castle, intimidatingly large and sealed shut.
“I don’t suppose you have another Cataclysm in you, huh Chat?” Faon asks.
Chat shakes his head. “Not unless I recharge first.”
“We should avoid that,” Lupus says gruffly. “It might’ve been fine outside the castle, but there’s no telling how dangerous this place can be to us if we’re not in uniform.”
“This Chat still has a time limit though.” Lapin recalls with wide eyes.
Lupus sighs. “Then we’ll have to deal with this quickly.”
After making sure that the doors are indeed very hard to open, Lupus turns to the rest.
“I’m going to need a rope,” he says.
“Can’t we just sneak in somewhere else?” Chat asks.
Lupus shakes his head. “It will take too long, and we shouldn't infiltrate random places of the castle without knowledge of its interior.”
“Chat and I have belts on,” Faon says with a slight purr that does not help Chat focus at all. “Want us to take them off?”
Lupus raises a brow, turning to look at the two of them respectively.
“Chat’s belt might work since it’s also his tail,” he says before shaking his head. “But your waistband is a bit too short, Faon.”
“Welp, you heard him,” Faon says with a grin, turning to the blond with piercing brown eyes. “Time to take ‘em off kitten.”
Lapin rolls his eyes and covers Faon’s eyes with his hand, causing the latter to yelp indignantly.
“Thought you might like some privacy,” Lapin says with Chat with a smile.
Blushing all the way up to his ears, Chat quickly undoes the buckle of his weird tail belt thing.
“It’s not like it’s holding up my pants or anything,” the blond mumbles. “Stop making it sound so weird.”
Lupus takes the belt, giving a quiet thanks before tying it around one of the handles.
“Alright, everyone grab hold,” he instructs, creating a tug-of-war formation with the rest of the heroes.
“Alright, pull!” he shouts.
The four of them pull their hardest, groaning at the amount of force used, but despite their efforts they only managed to move the stupid thing by inches before they slowly start to lose progress.
“Holy fuck , what are these stupid doors made of?!” Faon complains exasperatedly.
“The more we try, the more tired we get…” Lapin says, panting. “Soon we won’t be able to move this at all.”
“ Fine,” Lupus growls. “I was hoping I won’t have to do this for a fucking door , but…”
All of a sudden, Lupus glows with indigo colored energy and two large wolves appear, each of them at least five feet tall.
With a single look from Lupus, one wolf merges with the hero, giving him additional strength. The other gets in line behind the others, grabbing the belt and pulling alongside the heroes.
Soon enough the combined effort of everyone managed to open the door wide just enough for people to slip through.
“Gods fucking dammit,” Faon swears under his breath as the wolf disappears in a flash of indigo, and Lupus stops glowing altogether. “We had an easier time with the stupid sword plants than we did this fucking door.”
“Well maybe if we had thought of something else during the sword plants, we wouldn’t have wasted two of our abilities,” Lupus says stubbornly, but Faon shakes his head.
“No man, it’s the doors. They’re an adventurer’s greatest enemy,” he mutters threateningly.
“Let’s just go,” Lapin says. “We don’t want to waste any more time than necessary.”
Shooting Lapin a round of nods, the boys all squeeze through the door and into the castle.
The entire place looks downright abandoned . Walls dirty and mossy, the carpets on the floor all torn up and rotted, paintings fallen off the walls and lying broken on the floor.
As the group made their way through the empty corridors, they eventually arrived at another large door, though not as large as the one at the front.
“Feels pretty ominous,” Faon mutters. “Likely the final boss would be waiting inside this room.”
“Hopefully we’ll be able to defeat them,” Lapin says.
“Is everyone ready?” Lupus asks.
“As I’ll ever be,” Faon sighs.
“Me too,” Lapin says, taking out his tonfas with a spin of his wrist.
Lupus turns to Chat.
“R-Ready,” He says.
Nodding in affirmation, the Wolf Hero reaches forward and grabs the door, pulling it open with all his might. The door’s hinges creaked loudly under the weight.
Past the doors, the boys see what seems to be a large throne room. A single throne sits at the top of the steps, seemingly the only well maintained thing in the entire castle. Around the room are a bunch of other doors leading to other places in the castle.
“I don’t hear anything,” Faon says quietly. “We should be able to go in.”
Following Faon’s lead, the boys step into the room in quick succession.
Before being promptly engulfed by a flash of light.
“Wh-What the-” Faon gasps. “What’s happening!?”
“An attack?” Lupus snarls, looking down at his brightly glowing hands.
“Chat!” Lapin shouts.
The blond was also engulfed in bright light, strangely enough, it doesn’t feel like it hurts.
Slowly adjusting to the light, Chat watches as his uniform stretches out to his arms before turning to metal gauntlets. The fabric of his legs shift too, spawning strips of cloth that drapes down to his now-metal covered feet.
The light fades, and so does the light from the rest.
“Is everyone alright?” Lupus asks.
“I-I’m fine,” Lapin says with a shaky voice.
“I’m okay too…” Faon says last. “But… What just happened?”
A second passes.
“And what am I wearing ?!”
Blinking out of his daze, Chat looks up at the random question.
Only to see that everyone’s wearing different costumes again.
Faon Vert had changed from his beach outfit to something more akin to a forest ranger. Instead of a mask, he has a forest green shawl that covers the lower half of his face. On top of his head is his hood again, except the antlers look more sharp and edgy. His shirt now looks more like a tank top, with sleeves on his right arm but none on his left.
Lapin Blanc now looks like those ninjas from Naruto with the animal masks on their face. Except instead of a full mask, it’s half of a rabbit’s, making him look more knightley than a mysterious ninja. On his body is a set of leather armor that only covers his chest, leaving the rest only covered in fabric. His tonfas now attached to his side.
Lunam Lupus looks like a king or a dark knight. A wolf crown on his head and wearing dark full-body armor. Unlike Lapin whose clothes tuck into his armor, Lupus’ armor is under his clothes, judging by the linen kilt around his waist.
“You changed your clothes…?” Chat says in awe. Although he is not sure whether to be happy or sad that the boys had swapped out of their (sexy) beach outfits.
“I-I think so…?” Lapin says in confusion, glancing at Chat before going wide eyed in surprise.
“Y- You did too!” He says.
Blinking, Chat looks down at himself.
Huh, so he did.
The gauntlets and metallic boots that he distinguished before from the bright light still remain. He looks like a king too, unlike Lupus his outfit looks more like it’s from an anime than live action. Random bits of clothing hang over his shoulder and past his waist, looking like a king who only could have been designed with anime in mind. Even the bell that Chat always thought looked pretty silly was still on him, placed past his neck and on his chest like always.
…
He doesn’t hate it though…
Actually… He looks pretty freaking cool .
“How do I look?” Chat says, making a pose with a slight glare that looked more like a cute pout than anything.
Faon snorts.
“You look hot ,” he says honestly.
Chat blushes slightly at the compliment.
“Th-Thanks,” he stammered out. “Y-You too.”
“But nobody feels like they’re in pain?” Lapin asks in confusion.
“I’m fine,” Faon says with a grimace. “Pants could be a little looser though.”
Lupus had an annoyed look on his face. "I'd be better if this armor wasn't so restrictive and heavy. I won't be able to move as well as I'm used to wearing this."
“I don’t feel anything bad either,” Chat says, looking down at his ring…
Which is back to a full paw of green.
“They recharged me,” Chat says in surprise, turning to Lupus. “Was yours reset too?”
The Wolf Hero checks his Miraculous, and nods.
“Likely whoever made this place, wanted us to look the part too,” Lupus says with a frown. “I hope our Kwamis are okay with the sudden change.”
“They better be,” Faon growls. “If whoever did this knows what’s best for them.”
Chat blinks, taken off guard at the deer hero’s sudden tone.
Maybe he can do feral after all…
“Ah… Guests…”
The four heroes whirl around to the throne at the sudden voice.
Sitting on top of the majestic chair is a pale man, wearing nothing but black, accessories of gold around his neck and a multitude of expensive rings on his fingers.
“I see that you have made use of the gift I gave you,” he says with a cruel looking smirk. “That pleases me.”
“Awful quiet for someone wearing so much loose jewelry,” Faon states with a snarl. “Who are you?”
The man leans his head against his fist.
“Maleficent,” he says simply.
“ Bullshit ,” Lupus growls. “I was told that someone took over Maleficent’s role as Queen of the Moors. Give us a name that we can engrave on your tombstone.”
The man’s eyebrow raised, intrigued.
“I admire your defiance,” he says with a grin. “And it would be unchivalrous of me to not give my name since I know yours.”
He stands up, black boots planted on the ground.
“My name is King Diaval, it is a pleasure to meet you,” he says with a fake smile. “Normally I would bow, but a King doesn’t bow to his enemies so easily, especially ones as brilliant as me.”
“Diaval…?” Faon asks with wide eyes. “That name… You’re…”
“You’re the raven Maleficent saved and had taken as her main servant in the movie,” Lupus finishes with a glare. “Or, more likely, you’re a poser using his name.”
The King shrugs.
“Believe it, don’t believe it, I don’t care what you do regardless,” he says. “What I do care, is the four of you leaving this place as quietly as you came. No one has to get hurt here.”
“No, someone is going to get hurt,” Lapin argues with a glare. “If we leave, you’ll take over the rest of the dimension and kick us out, and who knows what would happen to Chat Noir if you did.”
The King frowns.
“What if you leave him here then?” He suggests monotonously. “After all, my old Mistress used to have me as her pet, it seems fitting that I get one of my own.”
Lupus growls. And Lapin and Faon, getting the signal, leap onto the King immediately .
“Chat, stay back,” Lupus instructs as the two others slam their weapons onto the throne, narrowly missing the King, who had dodged out of the way at the last minute.
“ So impatient… ” The King says, his voice growing deeper. “ But you’re going to have to try a lot harder than that…”
As he says that, his limbs grow longer, his jaw splitting open as poison continuously spills out from it. His chest expands and he falls onto all four, large sickly wings bursts out from his back as he continues to grow, and grow, and grow .
His back hits the ceiling of the throne room, shattering past it in the process. His shadow completely engulfs the entire room, leaving the four heroes in his intimidating presence.
Lapin goes first, taking out his tonfas, he rushes towards the dragon, ducking under his claws and attempting to climb onto its back.
The dragon lets out a loud roar, the sound creating its own wind as it blows all of them back. Chat feels his heartbeat picking up at the sound, the sight of the dragon enough to send even the strongest of warriors cowering in retreat.
Finally, the dragon lifts up his wings, flapping them against the floor, destroying more of the ceiling in the process. The winds generated from his attack sends Chat, Lupus and Faon flying back, Lapin thankfully was able to hold on to his feet.
“This just went from zero to hundred real fast,” Faon growls, turning to Lupus.
“HEY WOLFY! You wanna take the rear or should I?” He shouts.
“Go help Lapin!” Lupus yells.
Nodding, the Deer Hero croches to the running start position, before leaping with his feet, leaving cracks in the floor as he powers through the air, rushing towards Lapin, hands protecting his face all the way.
“Alright Chat,” Lupus says, turning to the blond.
“Don’t use your Cataclysm,” he orders. “We need it for the focal point.”
“Then- What should I do then!?” Chat shouts over the wind.
Lupus smirks. “Work with me,” he says.
As the dragon blasts even more air, Lupus summons two wolves, as big as the ones from before, one stands by Chat’s side, and the other near Lupus, both their furs rustling furiously against the winds.
“Ride him,” Lupus says.
“W-Wait, what!?” Chat shouts.
“You’ve done it before!” Lupus shouts. “Just do it!”
Gulping anxiously, Chat looked at the wolf standing proudly next to him, he gave the blond a nod of respect, lowering himself for easy access to his back.
Chat reaches up, throwing his leg over the creature’s back to the other side as he mounts the giant wolf.
The wolf lets out a huff, its muscles tensing up under Chat, before abruptly taking off, his powerful legs able to handle the raging storms, stomping into the ground with purpose.
“AhHHhhHHHHHhhHHH!” Chat screams.
Meanwhile, Lapin managed to climb up onto the dragons back, running up to the top of his, just above his eyes.
Raising his tonfas, he slams them down onto the open organ.
The dragon wails in pain, his wind attacks stopping for a moment as the wings stop. Faon lands and rolls onto the floor.
The dragon lets out a roar, throwing Lapin off of him with violent swings, poison gathering at the front of its jaw.
“LAPIN!” Faon shouts. “Chariot Attack!”
Lapin sits up from the rubble, shaking his head once before kicking back onto his feet.
“Got it!” He shouts back, activating his Speed Burst, Lapin appears next to Faon. The Deer Hero does a leap back, landing on Lapin’s shoulders, his blowgun held up.
“Sticks act as Lances, Mind’s Eye!” Faon shouts, twisting his blowgun around before it forms into a giant lance, almost impossible to wield except in anime.
Chat arrives by their side on top of his wolf.
“What do I do!?” He shouts.
Faon looks at him, sharing a look with Lapin, who nods.
“Make sure that we get out safely,” Faon says.
Before Chat could question it, the dragon’s turn begins.
The dragon ROARS , a LARGE torrent of poison charging RIGHT towards them.
“GO!” Faon shouts.
And Lapin takes off, speeding RIGHT towards the dragon’s open mouth.
“WAIT!” Chat shouts.
Faon and Lapin both scream, the giant lance wielded by the former piercing through all poison light it was nothing, a large spiral of air created around the weapon from the speed.
The dragon stops suddenly in alarm. Raising one of its claws, it attempts to slam it down on them. But Lapin was too fast, spinning around the attack in a quick dodge before running even faster .
The dragon was not able to react again.
Faon and Lapin dive straight into its maw with a loud cry, entering it right as its mouth shuts.
“FAON! LAPIN!” Chat shouts.
“They’ll be alright!”
Chat jumps at the sudden voice, looking to the side, he sees Lupus had somehow crept his way under the dragon, looking at Chat with a determined look, his body blazing with indigo energy.
“Come on!” He shouts, his voice sounding like a mixture of his regular voice and a wolf’s snarl.
The wolf under Chat growls, before taking off with blond once more until they’re right under the dragon.
From out of nowhere, a spear penetrates out from the inside of the dragon, causing him to scream in pain and stumble to the side.
Lupus scans the body with a calculative gaze.
“There,” he says, pointing at a rather dimly lit center of the dragon’s chest.
“We attack there, at the same time,” he says, taking out his daggers and looking at Chat.
“Your staff’s too blunt to penetrate the chest plate,” he notes with a frown. “Use your claws.”
Chat blinks. “Wh-What?” He asks.
“The Chat Noir I know, knows how to use his claws,” Lupus explains with a frown. “Trust in that version of him.”
Another stab from inside the dragon, this time deeper down the monster’s throat.
“NOW!” Lupus shouts.
Immediately the two leap upwards, the wolves in tow.
Chat takes a look down at his staff, before dropping it and flexing his hands, the leather edges of his hands sharpening into sharp claws.
Letting out a cry, he reaches up and digs his hands right into the dragon’s chest. The wolf’s sharp teeth digs straight into the softened flesh as Lupus’ daggers do the same, the Wolf Hero hooking his weapons in deep before switching his grip on them to be easier to pull rather than push. All at once, the Chat and the wolves force their weight down , sending the dragon tripping over his own legs and dropping onto the floor.
Right under the place they attack, another javelin sticks out, except instead of receding like the last couple of times, it gets bigger, and bigger, before finally bursting open. Faon, still on Lapin’s back, speeds right out of the dragon’s lower chest. Surprisingly, they’re blood and guts free, although their uniforms are singing a little from the poison.
The dragon lets out one last pathetic whine. And never takes a breath again.
Panting heavily, Chat allows himself to fall flat on his butt.
That was…
Holy crap…
Faon turns off his Mind’s Eye and stows it away, leaping over Lapin’s shoulders to stand in front of him.
“You okay?” Faon asks worriedly, reaching up to bat some venom singing a bit of Lapin’s rabbit mask.
“Could be better,” Lapin mumbles. “You?”
Faon smirks.
“I’ll live,” he says with a shrug. “I was only asking because I rode you pretty hard.”
Lapin rolls his eyes as Faon smirks wider.
“Good thing I gave you all that good advice about the poison huh?” He teases further.
Lapin grins. “I don’t think asking us to ‘hold our breaths’ counts as good advice.”
As the two laugh, Chat feels something lick the side of his face.
One of the wolves had walked over to him, peering at him in slight worry.
“H-Hello,” Chat says.
“That one’s always had a liking for you,” Lupus says from Chat’s other side, startling the blond slightly.
“Wh-What?” He asks.
Lupus shrugs.
“My Wolf Pack summons wolves, each with their own independent thoughts and emotions,” he explains with a huff. “This one always had a soft spot for the Chat in my world.”
Reaching up, Lupus scratches the wolf on top of its head, causing its tail to wag slightly, and Chat to snort.
“Real cute wolves you have there,” he says.
Lupus and the wolf glare at him, and their looks of offense so incredibly similar that the blond laughs even more .
Lupus sighs fondly at his boyfriend’s childishness, and dismisses his pack with a proud nod of his head.
“Good job everyone,” he says to the team. “We defeated him before he could do any serious damage to us.”
Faon snorts.
“Yeah, if only all fights could run this smoothly,” he says.
As Lupus stands up, he offers his hand to the blond to help him up, which Chat accepts graciously.
As he is hauled up, Chat notices something behind where the throne used to sit, obscured from their original position by the door.
Unlike the doors leading to the other rooms, this one is a set of double doors, inscribed around it are seemingly unknown words that Chat couldn’t make out.
Taking out the monocle, Chat holds it up to his eye.
The door is glowing with magic, its colors changing periodically with the colors of the rainbow. As Chat looks around, he sees that the rest didn’t have the glow as this one did.
“I-I think the focal point is over here,” Chat says.
The other three turn to the door, and they all begin walking towards it.
“What language is this?” Faon asks curiously.
“It’s Irish,” Lupus says with a frown, before reading it out loud for the rest of them.
“ Enemies Today, Allies Before,
Only Two May Enter, No Less, No More.
Mind What You Saw, I'm Not Easy to Store,
Pay the Price or Fall,
Lest the Curse leave you Incapable to Settle the Score.”
“Only two may enter…” Lapin repeats with a mutter. “So… Only two of us can enter?”
“Well Chat Noir has to be one of them,” Faon says. “So he can destroy the focal point, and the other can be any one of us…”
“I can do it,” Lupus says, looking at the other two. “Looks like you two need a break from battle anyways.”
Lapin and Faon share a look.
“If it’s to protect Chat, we can still fight,” Lapin says.
“Yeah, besides we could all get some rest after this is over,” Faon says with a sigh. “So let’s just have Chat pick and get it over with.”
Lupus sighs, looking down at Chat.
“Well?” He asks. “Who would you want to accompany you?”
Chat blinks, looking at the three boys with wide eyes.
The words on the door are a little confusing, but it seems like I can only pick one to accompany me…
I’ll go with…
- Lunam Lupus, I should let the other two rest for now.
- Faon Vert, I should let the other two rest for now.
- Lapin Blanc, I should let the other two rest for now.
