Chapter Text
She stares at the meadow as if in a trance, dull gold eyes focused on the swaying snapdragons, anticipating for something more.
This was their spot. Up on that hill under the warm pastel sky, fluffy clouds, surrounded by the never ending fields of flora. ‘Their’ spot, but Eda was the only one there. Everything seemed a bit extra monotone that day.
She scans the area for a familiar face, they weren’t there yet though. Strange of Raine to be running late, especially when Eda had to speak to them about something so important.
Her love. She was going to confess her love for them.
She knew they didn't reciprocate her feelings, but she couldn't keep it in any longer. The owl beast taking over her body had become a lot more common. Tiresome nights up trying not to fall asleep, trying not to let that thing out. It all rooted back to her love for them, her one sided love.
She'd done her best, everything she could to avoid this. But every time she gathers herself up again, they make her stumble and fall all over again.
Love is a poison that consumes you. A drug you can’t stop taking.
Glancing at the pile of petals beside her, she knew what was happening. A gag, a cough every few minutes. It felt horrendous. Like something had taken root in her lungs, making breathing difficult. What was worse was the way it seemed to persistently force its way out of her throat, no matter how hard she tried to swallow it back.
“Eda.”
She jumps for a moment and turns towards them. “Sorry, I’m late. I had a few things to sort out at home.”
She nods, turning her head back, figuring out how to hide the mess of red stained petals. “What did you want to speak to me about?” They sat, not noticing their best friend facing away.
Trying to manage a sentence, another set of stained petals fall into her hands.
She gags and wheezes, everything she can do just to force the three words out, so simply complex.
She laughs pathetically, leading into another fit of coughs.
She can’t say it.
An assortment of lightly coloured petals escaped her lungs. Raine turns their attention to her, eyes widening in horror at the sight. “Eda are you alright .. ?” They voiced in concern as they moved towards her worriedly.
She grows more and more pale with every petal in her system.
Turning to face them, eyes tearing, ‘ this is it ’ she thought.
“I’m a bit dramatic, aren’t I Rainestorm?”
It was over. The roots settle about her lungs and the capacity of them, concealed with blooming orange snapdragons.
