"Ken, look at that," Daisuke cried, pointing out the pop-up ice rink just in view, pure excitement etched on his face.
His eyes darted toward the rink, immediately scanning the skaters gliding across the ice. There were groups of friends, yes, and families too, but most of them were couples, boys and girls, men and women, skating close together, smiling and blushing, a few of them even daring to hold hands.
Even with Daisuke at his side—or especially with Daisuke at his side—Ken didn't feel anywhere near that brave.
But when Daisuke grinned at him, eyes sparkling, and dragged him toward the ice, Ken couldn't find it within himself to argue, couldn't take away the wonder shining in those chocolate eyes. Despite his halfhearted protests, he followed Daisuke, just like he always did.
