FAQ:
What is Aspec Archives Week?
Aspec Archives Week is an event created by aspec fans of The Magnus Archives to celebrate aro- and ace-spectrum (aspec) headcanons for all characters in the podcast. This event will run from January 11 to January 17, 2021, and will promote aspec headcanons, meta, writing, and art you may have for your favorite characters. Each day during the event, three different prompts will be provided for inspiration, but don't feel bound by any of the prompts. If you feel inspired to go in another direction, run with it! Aspec headcanons for any and all TMA characters are welcome and encouraged. Don’t let the name limit you—this is for any character in the series, so your aspec Agnes and Gerry works can be included as well as aspec Sasha or Tim!
Why are you doing Aspec Archives Week?
The creators of this event are aspec, and love the idea of promoting aspec headcanons people may have for all the characters in the show.Previously, we had wonderful feedback and content from Aspec Martin Blackwood Week, and saw there was a lot of interest to expand it to include aspec headcanons for other characters as well.
When will the week run?
January 11-17, 2021.
What can I contribute to the event, and how?
Aspec Archives Week is for creation of content exploring ace- and/or aro-spec headcanons for TMA characters, including fics of any length, art, and meta. You can post any fanworks created for Aspec Archives Week on Tumblr, Archive of Our Own (AO3) and/or Twitter. If you have any existing aspec content for characters aside from Jon or Martin, feel free to add them to the tag or the AO3 collection! However, due to our past Aspec Martin event as well as the volume of existing aspec Jon fanworks, we will only be including new content for them in this event.
To help readers find the content they’re looking for, as well as to ensure the well being of those enjoying the event, please also include the following information in the tags and/or in the body of the post:
- The type(s) of ace- or aro-spec headcanon(s) that apply, such as (but not limited to):
- Asexual
- Aromantic
- Gray-aro, demisexual, etc.
- (optional) Sex-interested, sex-neutral, sex-averse, etc.
- Tag any NSFW content appropriately and use a read-more cut if on Tumblr
- Any applicable content warnings (even if they’re canon-typical!). This includes any instances of internalized or other ace-/arophobia.
On Tumblr, we will be using the #AspecArchives tag for the event.
On AO3, we have created a collection, Aspec_Archives_Week, that you can add your fanworks to. If you are unfamiliar with an AO3 collection, it's a group of works listed together under a heading that can be accessed with a link from each fic. You can submit your work to the collection any time during the week.
There are several ways you can add a work to the Aspec_Archives_Week collection:
- Through the Post New Work or Edit Work form (for new and older works):
- You can fill in the name of the collection manually when posting a new work or editing an work. To do this, navigate to the Post New Work or Edit Work form, and scroll down to the Associations section. In this section, enter the name of the collection (Aspec_Archives_Week) in the "Post to Collections/Challenges" box. Once you're finished with making all changes, scroll to the bottom of the page and select "Post".
- Through the Collection itself (only for new works):
- If you are posting a new work, go to the collection's Dashboard or Profile page, where there is a "Post To Collection" link on the top right. This link will take you to the Post New Work form with the collection's name already filled in.
If you do not currently have an AO3 account, please email [email protected] or contact us on our Twitter or Tumblr and we can provide you with an invitation code!
Do I need to stick to the prompts?
Not at all! The prompts are in place to give creators ideas to work off of for inspiration, but any and all aspec content related to any TMA character(s) is encouraged. If you have other ideas of your own unrelated to the prompts, or even an older work you’d like included, we would love to make it part of the event.
I’m not ace or aro but would like to participate—is that okay?
Definitely! As always take the care and respect writing any identity that isn’t yours deserves, and feel free to seek out writing resources on the topic. You can also consider having an aspec friend who is that identity beta your work.
I have a question that's not answered here. Where can I contact you?
You can find us on our Tumblr, our Twitter, or by emailing us at [email protected]. Thanks and we look forward to hearing from you!
