Aventurine’s luck has often aided him no matter the venture undertaken.
So when he trips on his own feet on the way to Dr. Veritas Ratio’s table in the IPC Strategic Investment Department’s lounge, he doesn’t quite panic as he does blank out—because it’s unlike him to be so indeliberate in his carelessness, and it’s unlike his usual fortune to desert him like this now, of all times.
Aventurine ends up stealing a kiss from Dr. Ratio on accident. Dr. Ratio doesn't quite react as Aventurine would have expected him to.

Should he be alarmed that Aventurine seemed to know his palate like a paramour pursuing his favour? He barely finishes the thought before his host exposes the long line of his neck in a laugh that tastes like sparkling wine.
"A lucky guess," he says, answering the question that must have been plastered over Ratio's face.
Luck, he thinks, has very little to do with calculated attentiveness.
