“I take back what I said in the van, by the way” he spat. “Being in love with you makes me feel like a huge fucking mistake.”
He turned to storm out of the room, but was pulled back by Mike’s voice. “Wait.”
He turned back around furiously, watching as Mike wordlessly knelt on the floor, pulled two binders from under his bed, and offered them to Will.
Will stared at them, nonplussed.
“Take them” Mike demanded. His voice was raspy, on the verge of breaking, and his eyes were gleaming.

“You should just tell her,” Mike says from behind his comic book when Will hangs up the phone.
“I know,” Will replies, because he does. They’ve had this exact exchange at least once a week for the last month. “But—”
“Yeah, I know.” Mike tosses the comic onto Will’s bedside table and sits up. “But I mean, El broke up with me. And we were fifteen years old. I think she can handle it.”

Summary
Will Byers' senior year of high school is going surprisingly well. Not that it's a high bar. But with the Upside Down finally take care of, all Will has to worry about are college essays and keeping up with his schoolwork. Will might even say that he's enjoying it, especially because he and Mike have finally started dating each other in secret.
So when Mike calls to ask Will to skip school with him tomorrow, Will finds himself going along with it, even if Mike refuses to tell Will why he's suddenly decided to drag Will along with him to Chicago.

Summary
Mike’s been waiting 737 days for this exact moment, always too intimately aware of every single second that’s passed him by since he disappeared. “You’re alive,” he tells him, stupid and reverent. This time, it seems to get through to Will. He watches the hard exterior recede, exposing the gentle warmth that Mike has always admired
“I’m alive,” Will repeats. “I’m alive.” He lets out a hysterical giggle and suddenly he’s the one falling into Mike, limbs tangling and hands clutching at each other until he can’t tell where one of them ends and the other begins. “And you’re here. You came for me.”
Will’s fingers dig into his forearms. Mike swallows the instinctive I would always come for you on the tip of his tongue.
OR: Even after watching Will get trapped in the Upside Down for good, Mike never stopped believing he was alive. After stumbling upon a gate two years later, he takes a chance and learns to finally follow his heart.
