“Did you hear it?” asked Will a few moments later, startling Mike out of his thoughts.
“What?” he turned his head to his right, but Will wasn’t looking at him, he was staring ahead. “..the clock.” he shrugged his head slightly, looking down at his feet.
“No.” Mike lied. He did hear it faintly back at the MAC-Z, right before Vecna walked out of the gate, and he heard it even more faintly at the hospital, while he and Nancy were waiting on updates from the doctors about their parents. For just a second, he actually thought he could make out the shape of a grandfather clock, down the hallway in the distance. But he blamed it on his sleep deprivation then, and Will didn’t need to know about it now.

He remembers, eyes squeezed shut against the swell of nausea and vertigo that claws through him, being not-quite-thirteen, and listening eagerly to Mr. Clarke explain the science behind dreams.
“Dreams,” he’d said, “are often seen as these sacred experiences, something that has to have a deeper meaning. We have centuries of examples of dream interpretation, the art of examining commonalities between different dreams to find a single interpretation.
“The thing is,” he’d continued, “dreams are just your brain’s way of processing and regurgitating information; a fruit-salad of information, so-to-speak. Sure, it can mean something, but it’s more likely to be a random grab-bag of facts and feelings that you’ve come across in life.”
A fruit-salad of information. Here, in the dark bathroom at a little past three in the morning, Mike breathes carefully, and tries to dissect where the supposed ingredients of his fucked-up dream salad actually came from.

“Not to be, you know, nosy, but I think that… the snowball might’ve become an avalanche.” Robin jostles his shoulder, and he shoves her back, a smile on his face. They start cackling again like a pair of idiots.
“I see you’re feeling better,” Mike notes, as he comes back into the room with two steaming mugs. They both turn their heads to look at him. And has Will gone completely crazy? Because he sounds almost… jealous.
In summary: This is my idea (or one of many) of what happens after episode 4. Mike is really slow at realizing his feelings and very good at suppressing them, but something finally fully clicked this time (he literally recreated that scene from Lego Batman).

It feels like no four walls can keep him in anymore, and his spirit flies above the rooftops, over the sleeping town, and wanders free as a bird. He just had to find it in him. But he can’t. Because Will is… different… No one ever gave him the courage to fight on, or made him feel better for being so. In this world, there was no place for boys like Will Byers. No one really understood him. Because this sullen version of Will Byers has never been to the Upside Down, never befriended Eleven, never gotten caught up in demons from other dimensions.
And this Will Byers had never met Mike Wheeler.

will and his family had been staying at the wheelers house for 18 months now. him and jonathan sleep in the basement but sometimes will sleeps with mike in his room because of his constant nightmares. will wakes up while in mikes room and tries to leave but mike wakes up and decides hes going with him. will and mike go to the upside down through an open gate that will sensed was nearby. will and mike get separated and mike is calling wills name. will is walking, not being able to hear mike and he finally notices mike is gone. hes in the exact spot vecna wanted him in. he goes to call mikes name when suddenly a tentacle wraps around his foot, tripping him. he lies on his stomach, about to push himself up when another tentacle goes up through his stomach, stabbing him. it retracts and he lies on the ground on his stomach, bleeding to death, and alone. when mike finds him its almost too late. he holds will in his arms and sobs. wills lost too much blood so he wont make it. he starts hallucinating and doesnt understand why mikes crying or whats going on. he later dies in mikes arms. mike cant deal with the guilt and kills himself

Fuck, his arm ached. His head, behind his eyes, his nose. The smell of the burning was horrible. His clothes stuck to his body, still damp from the burst pipe.
He carried Will, hand tight around his waist and forearm, holding him upright as the blood that smeared under his nose dried. They weaved around the bodies, cracks in the asphalt and overturned trucks. Flames still continued to light the area, but the almost angry flickering of the lights has died down. -

It’s a bucket of water washes over him—cold, icy water—paralyzing Mike down to the bone.
Will is staring at him like he’s confused now, like he really didn't understand Mike so well, after all. And Will never says anything maliciously, but those four words feel like four gunshots straight to Mike’s chest. He’s not able to pull away from Will any quicker, before that rotten feeling can consume him completely.
“What?”
“It’s just… It’s not normal, the way we act, is it?”

The Christmas of ‘86 is drawing nigh.
With the Byers-Hopper family finally visiting Hawkins and the Upside-Down seemingly under wraps, it looks like for the first time since ‘82, it’s going to be a truly happy holiday. Now all Mike needs to do is wrap presents, host guests, and keep Will from finding out about his feelings.
If only he wasn’t so distracted by a sudden onslaught of headaches and ultra-realistic nightmares…

Summary
His entire body hurts like a bitch. He wraps his arms around himself as he shivers, a cold, achy feeling settling into his muscles. He swallows, wincing at the soreness and discomfort in his throat. He tries to sit back up, but immediately regrets it as the pounding behind his eyes becomes worse and dizziness overtakes him.
Mike doesn’t even bother lying to himself. He’s definitely sick.
But he can't be late to class. So he's going even if it kills him.
Or Modern-day college AU sickfic where Mike tries to ignore the fact that he's sick so he doesn't miss class, but Will finds him passed out on a park bench. Because of course giving Will a heart attack is part of their relationship
