FAQ:

But silly little Who… What is a "niche job" AU?? 🤔

Well—the wonderful, talented, beloved ao3 author somethinglikesawyer puts it best in the Niche Jobs Huntrix Collection (yes, Silver, you did just get pvp'd on the server event guidelines):

1. Niche (rare) within KPDH fanfiction specifically; i.e. "choreographer" might be rare for some fandoms, but not within KPDH fanfic, and thus would not count. There is not an exact or strict cutoff, but usually if it has more than a couple fics tagged with the same job/premise, it would not be considered niche in this context. And it should be a job, meaning they get paid for it (it's not a hobby. However, if it's a bit of both (e.g., a candlemaker in their free time who sells their candles), it would still count).2. The fic does not have to focus/go in depth on the job, but the job should play a pivotal role within the fic. In other words, if it would be the exact same story/plot if the job was substituted for a completely different job, it would not count.

Something I'd say myself is to think of whether or not your Average Joe™ (who is not involved with the job) would know multiple people who do the job and/or would be able to easily do it themself. Is it specialized or specific (this could be within a wider field)? Probably niche. Is it a job that would make most people would go "Oh wow, that's super interesting!" and ask for clarification? Probably niche. Or honestly, even something that isn't really crazy, but just not very common? Again, probably niche.

Honestly, if you're not sure, feel free to brainstorm in the Bathhouse with everyone! Brainworms run abundant here :)
