Feral, his mother said with a voice so, so gentle. Too much wolf for one soul. It wasn’t like a natural influx of power when becoming an Alpha; it was another wolf, a merging of two, an abomination that was never meant to exist.
Peter was gone. Peter was feral.
Peter was dead, because while he’d ran before Derek’s mother and Alpha was forced to bestow a mercy killing, eventually hunters or other wolves would catch and kill him. It had to be done, and hopefully before Peter slaughtered innocents because he was out of his mind, unable to control himself. It was only a matter of time.
At least Derek would be spared the pain of feeling that death, his mother assured. He couldn’t feel the breaking of a bond he didn’t have, because humans didn’t have mates.]
