Summary
INLAND EMPIRE: Jean thinks that his feelings for you are more valid than your feelings for Dora. She’s long gone, while your lives and careers remain inextricably linked. You’ve spent the better part of the last five years inseparable, protecting each other from deadly harm. He felt that his love for you should have been enough to pull you back from the abyss of regret and alcoholism. He also resents Dora for doing what he was unable to do: detach from you emotionally and flee the scene of your slow-motion self-immolation.

“So?”
“So why don’t you ask him to not call you a silly asshole?”
Harry levels his gaze with Jean’s. “I order you to not call me a silly asshole,” he says, pointing at him.
Jean, without breaking eye contact, gives him the middle finger with both hands.

Jean laughs. “You’ve always outranked me. You were late to the force, but you’re ten years older than I am, and you were a psychopath about getting promoted. I couldn’t keep up with you. I rode your coattails, and then the ride ended, and I started cleaning up your mess instead. I’ll be a Satellite-Officer until one of us dies.”
RHETORIC: There’s a bittersweetness to the way he says this. This is the closest to marriage that he’s ever wanted to get.
