Work Text:

Flowers of a Dragon was a blooming florist emporium in the middle of Diagon Alley. They combined magical and non magical plants for their bouquets, something that really seemed to hit it off with their magical customers. Draco Malfoy was the owner and head florist of the shop, and he hired only the best to work alongside him.

The wizard had trained himself in both apothecary and Muggle horticulture so Draco paid his employees to learn the same. Both disciplines were necessary to create amazing bouquets that were both safe and beautiful. Draco had an owl system as well as a phone with which to take orders. One morning, Draco was in the back office, working on bookkeeping, when he heard the chime of the Firecall. Knowing his apprentice would answer, Draco worked until he found a good stopping point before going to assist with putting together the new order. His apprentice was currently taking muggle horticulture classes, so Draco needed to ensure that he didn't agree to make a bouquet that would eat each other or otherwise have a negative reaction.

When Draco came out of the back room, Elijah waved at him, before continuing to make the list of magical plants, flowers and muggle flowers and herbs this customer was requesting. Elijah did as he was trained, repeating each item as he wrote it down, to ensure he had heard correctly and to help Draco get an idea of what they were working with without having to take over Firecall from the apprentice. The list seemed rather normal at first and Draco was nodding happily at the list, rubbing his hands together, eager to get to work creating a brilliant bouquet.

“Mandrake root, venomous tentacular…um sir are you certain you just want the one bouquet? We really should…” Elijah’s voice was cut off abruptly as Draco took the Firecall from him and practically screamed into the hearth.

“You can’t mix those two plants together! What are you thinking? Is your goal to have the recipient torn limb from limb? Who are you? What do you do, and what are you planning? Is this an assassination attempt?” Draco yelled into the flames dramatically, his words echoing his shock and worry as he spoke.

The moment he had heard Draco’s voice start to rise in octaves, Elijah had taken his leave of the room, quickly disappearing into the nursery, which was the farthest part of the shop from Draco and yet he could still hear almost every word. Knowing that Mr. Malfoy would sort out the situation, Elijah tried to relax as he gathered supplies to tend to the plants in the nursery.

When Draco took a breath to ready himself to give this ridiculous man another earful…he stopped at the sound of laughter coming from the other end. Draco glared at the wall, wondering why on earth this possibly nefarious man was laughing and how best to proceed. Draco had just recovered his train of thought when the laughter died down and a familiar voice met his ears.

“Glad I have your attention Draco. I have been calling for weeks asking for you and yet somehow you are never in the store that you own. Can we please talk now?” Harry asked as he smiled into his phone.

Draco swore under his breath, not caring if Harry heard him or not. He had to give it to the dark haired man, he was a persistent courter. “Ugh, fine Potter. What do you want?” Draco glared at the wall as he spoke.

“I want you to go on a date with me. And please call me Harry, you never had a problem with it before.”

“We went on a date already, one per customer, sorry Harry.”

“Well I refuse to let that be the end of it. We both know that we want each other, so why not let the world know and act on it?” Harry practically yelled into Draco's ear..

“You might be correct on that, or you could be mistaken. Maybe if you tried harder to woo me…I would be more inclined.” Draco snarked as he hit the end call button on the shop’s phone.

Draco turned on his heel as he stormed away from the counter, heading for the nursery to tend to some of his kinder magical plants; they always calmed him down. “I will not be Harry Potter’s next conquest. I will be his only or, I will be fine on my own.” Draco grumbled to himself as the door to the nursery opened and Elijah almost ran into him.

“Sir it sounds like we are getting quite a few owl orders in. Do you want me to fill them?” Elijah asked moving out of Draco’s way.

“I will fill them, let me check the office and see the damage. You tend to the plants here, and I will call on you if I need assistance. Thank you Elijah.”

Draco ran to his office, realizing just how much Harry’s call had gotten to him, he only now heard the cacophony of owls. Draco pushed the door ajar and stared open mouthed at the small army of owls in his office. Each of them had a piece of parchment tied to their feet, Draco felt he might faint…this was going to take a while. Draco’s shop had been doing well but it had struggled at the beginning so this many orders would allow him to truly expand his nursery and carry even more plants. He started to gather all of the pieces of parchment up while shouting for his intern, who gasped when he saw the massive flock of owls perched within the office.

“Merlin’s beard.” Elijah muttered in disbelief.

“My thoughts exactly. Okay Elijah, time to divide and conquer. You sort these orders into magical and muggle and start working on the magical ones and I will tackle the muggle ones, got it?”

Elijah took the notes and ran to the front desk to sort them. He ended up with two massive piles, about even though, and grabbed the magical plant ones before heading to the nursery. Draco grabbed his own pile of orders and started to put together breathtakingly beautiful Muggle bouquets. Whomever had ordered these had amazing taste. There was no name on any of the orders, just payment and the promise of a letter for the delivery in a few hours. Draco had put the money into the register before creating the bouquets, and his register was almost overflowing now…but that was a problem for after the orders were filled. An extension charm would make for an easy fix.

Draco finished his bouquets in a little over two hours, and got them all set up for inspection or delivery, whichever the customer preferred, before heading to the nursery to check on Elijah’s progress. Elijah’s bouquets were almost finished, but they weren’t quite as well wrapped as Draco preferred his products to be so Draco went about adding ribbons and other flourishes to the finished bouquets while Elijah put together the last few orders. Draco added some ribbons to those, before rounding up all of their orders and putting them near the front door so that the customer could see them easily. Towards the end of the day, as Draco was getting ready to close, a very dishevelled assistant ran into the shop, panting.

“Can I help you?” Draco asked curiously.

“I am here to get a massive order of flowers delivered? But I was told not to have you help me, apparently they want your intern to help me with the delivery.” The flustered man replied.

Draco gave the man a look of confusion, only a tad affronted, but shrugged it off and helped the other men load up the flowers for delivery. He sent them on their way with a smile. He was actually glad to not have to travel with that load, so he settled in to cleaning up the shop for the night so that when Elijah returned they could just head out. He had everything ready when the door opened once more and in trotted Elijah with a sly smile on his face, holding a decent sized tip which he offered to split with Draco. Draco refused as Elijah had done the delivery and they both parted ways for the night. Draco locked the door behind him frustrated but impressed at Elijah’s refusal to tell him where the flowers had been taken. His brain ran wild with possibilities as he walked to his flat.

A pungent perfume smell reached Draco’s nose as he exited the lift on his floor. He picked up the pace, curiosity fuelling him as he practically ran to his door. Outside of his flat, every single bouquet purchased from his shop had been arranged in a beautiful display. Draco gasped and dropped his keys in shock. A figure appeared from behind some of the flowers and handed Draco his keys with a smile. Emerald eyes flashed with joy as Draco’s eyes widened in shock.

“So how about that date, Draco?” Harry asked with a sexy smirk.

“Well that depends, am I your one and only?” Draco replied, closing the gap in between their bodies, and smirking back at the curly-haired man before him.

“Always.” Harry responded breathlessly.

Draco closed what little distance was left between them and pulled Harry into a passionate kiss. They fell into each other as the kiss deepened and Draco somehow managed to unlock his door so that they could continue their kiss in private.
