An emergency draft has called Sae and Isagi away to civil war in the south, leaving Rin isolated and alone in a cliffside cottage, abandoned by the only people he ever trusted. His paintings contain no life and resentment simmers under his skin at the very thought of his brother leaving him behind. Not even the local social butterfly of a fisherman, Nanase, can coax him down to the port town of Locketon. Life seems as though it'll be disgusting and tepid forever.
But then, one day, a merman with eyes the colour of ice and scales that gleam like diamonds appears in the hidden cove under the cliffs...
Aka: Hiori is a merman. Rin is an artist. Both of them are lost, and they'll help each other find their ways again.

She had to run. Whatever being was in the water, it was approaching her at a rapid speed, probably aware that its dinner was awaiting for it to arrive at the dock and devour her alive. She should have already stood up from her position and begun to run to a place far away from the sea the moment she noticed the shadow on the water.
But she felt as if a weight had fallen on her shoulders, weighing her down to the ground and making it impossible for her to escape.
