What is a fanfiction exchange and how do I participate?

A fanfiction exchange is exactly what it sounds like! Writers in the Discord community will fill out the form they find below, they will then be paired up with another writer in the community. At that time, they will have roughly one month to complete a fanfiction of any size in accordance with their recipient's preferences.

Can I exchange art for fanfiction or vice versa?

At this time, we only allow exchanges involving the same media (art for art, fanfiction for fanfiction).

Can I sign up for both exchanges?

Go ahead! But you will be responsible for completing both assignments.

Can I work as part of a team?

Yes. If you desire to work as a team, simply fill out the exchange form together. Your team will be assigned a single person to write for, and a single person will be assigned to write one fanfiction for you, so be sure to coordinate on your answers concerning what you would like to read.

Can I write a multi-chaptered fanfiction?

Yes. The entirety of the fanfiction does not have to be done by the end of the month. You only need to have the first chapter done and posted by the end of the exchange, after which you can finish the fanfiction at your leisure. However your first chapter must meet all rule requirements of the exchange.

I didn't receive an email during matching?

If assignments have already gone out (which sometimes may take a day or two), your sign-up might have been deleted for a variety of reasons. Make sure to review the rules to ensure you followed all of them. If you are still confused, message Sibby#1950 for details.

Why do I have to provide so many ships and characters for the offer? I only write about X!

The purpose of an exchange is to provide a piece for your recipient, even if you might not personally be interested in it. In return you get a piece tailored specifically to your tastes.

What do I do if I find I can no longer participate?

If during the course of the exchange you find you are no longer able to participate, you need to contact Sibby#1950 via Discord as soon as possible. Repeated withdrawal from the exchange for whatever reason will result in the inability to participate, withdrawal before the Matching stage will not be counted against you.

What can I do if I want to help people who have lost their partners?

Are you good at whipping up one-shots on short notice? Want to help those whose partner may have dropped out for various reasons? If someone drops out of the exchange for any reason, an alert will be posted in the #writing-group channel on the Discord asking for any author willing to take their place. That's great! I'm always searching for inspiration for future months. Feel free to contact Sibby#1950 with any suggestions. These can be single words, a list, a song, even pictures!

3. The following are not allowed under any circumstances; Crossovers, explicit material in request or offer form, AU requests MUST include a secondary non-AU prompt as backup.
4. Fanfiction must be at least 1,500 words long.
5. Art must have base color and shading.
6. Exchange themes must be adhered to, as should the preferences laid out by your recipient.
7. You MUST include your Discord Username (name#numbers) in your sign-up.
