Summary
“Stop doing that,” she hisses, the words rough. “Stop acting like you know what I’m thinking.”
“Then tell me I’m wrong,” Alina challenged, her voice dropping into something softer, more dangerous.
Zhenya’s voice cracked. “You want me to tell you? Fine, I'll tell you, just how annoying and wrong, you and your fedora and– stupid white button up is!”

Summary
“Go on,” Zhenya says, quieter now.
Alina swallows.
“I hated how hurting you is the one thing everyone remembers about the best day of my life.” Her bottom lip trembles. And then, softer, “I hated that I could keep the medal but not you.”
And for one, long moment, Zhenya says nothing.
Her thumbs stay pressed to Alina’s cheeks, warm, constant. But her expression has gone strange—blank, almost. Not empty, Alina quietly realizes, but overwhelmed—struck by a blade too sharp, too clean, for her to decide whether it should hurt.

Summary
Two girls who trained together, competed together, and lost each other somewhere along the way. One gold medal, one silver, and eight years of silence that was never really silence at all. On one of countless shows, after one too many heated glances across the ice, something finally gives.
Some things can only be said in empty streets at midnight.

Summary
At some point during one of their hotel room chit-chat sessions, Alina had extended her finger and asked if they could pinky promise that they wouldn’t let the outside world get between them ever again, biting her lower lip and tugging at the corner of it. She looked like a thirteen year old boy working up the nerve to ask his crush to a school dance. It was sweet and mildly endearing, enough to pull a hearty laugh out of Evgenia, one that Alina echoed with a nervous, breathless chuckle.
Zhenya had carelessly hooked the offered finger. Added a small, sealing kiss because she was warm and happy and they’d just spent hours watching the men’s free skating together, belly-laughing while tearing the boys apart.
She’d meant nothing particular by it. She was just being pleasant. She was always pleasant. Surely, Alina wouldn’t think much of the significance or veracity of such a juvenile, meaningless thing. (Clearly, now, Evgenia knew she had. Clearly, Alina had stashed it somewhere else entirely.)

Summary
Surrounded by mounds of cloth, Evgenia sorts through outfit after outfit before pulling out one that gives her pause. She doesn't immediately recognise it. Purple and black, with a high collar and bow. Black tights to match.
"Make a wish."
Evgenia looks over her shoulder, startled by the unexpected voice. She is the only person home at the moment. The room is empty. "One day, you'll also be my enemy. It's fine… I'll keep wishing for… can be happy."
Evgenia turns back and finds herself face-to-face with the Khrustalny lockers. Instead of the strange costume, Luna is in her hands, along with the familiar jacket of the Russian national team.
Or, twenty-six-year-old Evgenia Medvedeva wakes up in 2018. What could possibly go wrong?

Summary
Zhenya was eight when she first met Alina, twelve when she was told she was destined for greatness, and thirteen when she was officially introduced to two small girls, whom she and her best friend decided to forcefully adopt.
People came and went from her life all the time. They appeared and disappeared: from Khrustalny, from her world, and from her memory.
But there was one person she could never let go of, not even after years.
