“Ned”, is all Peter manages to say, looking back at the boy next to him, before a loud honk pulls him out of his thoughts.
Peter looks at the gray car, that has pulled up in front of school. A five seater, with bumper stickers on the rear window and boxes on the back seats.
A young woman, with a blue scarf around her head and glasses, is sitting behind the wheel. The window closest to them is rolled down.

Summary
“We can't always be happy, Ned”, she says and she has to bite the inside of her cheek, as soon as the words are out, to keep herself from groaning. Or possibly even laughing bitterly. It sounds so cliché, it sounds so not enough.
“And I know that”, Ned lets out a huff of air through his nose, “but it's just that I worry about him.” Ned's eyes are on hers now and they look slightly red. “He doesn't really do anything anymore. He doesn't do the things he used to do, he doesn't do the things that make him happy”, Ned lets out another huff. “And I know that he doesn't sleep well and he hardly eats.” The teenager pulls at the straps of his backpack, that is still on his back, some more, hands twitching. “Probably wouldn't eat at all if I didn't give him granola bars whenever we meet. And I just worry about him.”
