He imagines Robby receiving it, the quirk of his lips, the reluctant laugh, the rueful shake of his head. If it was another day—a day before Whitaker found out the guy he had a kinda-sorta thing with, the guy he gets on his knees for, the guy who pulls his hair and ties his hands behind his back and calls him a good boy, a day before he found out that guy was his new boss—he'd ask if Whitaker was being cheeky because he was looking for a punishment.
