Schitt's Creek: Frozen Over (2019)

In Schitt's Creek, it's Always Summer and Occasionally Christmas, so this is a festival for Schitt's Creek fanworks set during the winter! It's a prompt-fest, not an exchange fest, so it's low-key and relaxed: come and create some prompts, claim some prompts, and have fun!

Intro:

Welcome to Schitt's Creek: Frozen Over, a prompt-fest for fanworks set in Schitt's Creek during the winter. Since the show (almost) always takes place during summer, we just don't know enough about what these characters do in the winter: what winter activities they like or hate, what they complain about, what they wear, what disasters befall them, what hijinx they get up to, and so on. So let's imagine what happens when the creek is frozen over! All kinds of fanworks are welcome.

FAQ:

What counts as winter?

The show is set is Canada, so think cold weather, snow, and outerwear, with long nights and short days! But feel free to be creative with your prompts - so long as it's on theme in some way it's fine. Dreaming of winter during hot weather, or sudden blizzards in June, or making winter plans in the autumn could all be on theme. Just make something that involves the winter or winter weather somehow!

How do I make a prompt?

To make prompts, click on "Prompt Form" from the menu on the left. You will be given the option to create up to 10 prompts, specifying things like characters, relationships, and a description of what you want to see. You can be as specific and detailed or open and general as you like. You can come back and modify or add to your prompts later, so long as you do it before the prompt period closes! After Sunday, August 25th, you will no longer be able to add to or modify your prompts.

Who can claim my prompt?

Anyone can claim anyone else's prompts. Multiple people can sign up to claim the same prompt.

Is it okay to make prompts even if I'm not going to make fanworks?

Yup! Go for it.

How do I claim a prompt?

Technically, as soon as a prompt is posted, anyone can immediately claim it. HOWEVER, this is uncool, because the original prompter can still go back and edit or even delete the prompt after you've claimed it. So please refrain from claiming any prompts until August 25th, when the prompt period closes. The AO3 is a bit messed up in this way so it's on the honour system.

There is, however, nothing to stop you from starting to write/record/vid/draw/etc. your fanwork before August 25th! Just wait to claim it until everything is set in stone and the prompts can't be deleted or edited anymore.

After August 25th, to claim a prompt, click on "Prompts" from the menu on the left. You'll see all the prompts everyone has submitted! Just click "claim" next to the one (or ones) you want to claim your prompt.

Wait, what? The AO3 does what?

The AO3 apparently allows people to edit or delete their prompts after the prompt has been claimed? This strikes me as less than ideal but that's where we are. So again: PLEASE refrain from claiming prompts until August 25th!

What if I claim a prompt by accident, or decide I don't want to claim it after all?

That's fine! Just go back to the prompt and click on "drop claim" to release your claim on the prompt.

What if I claim a prompt and mean it, but I end up not finishing the fanwork?

That is okay! It's not an exchange, so there's no harm if this happens. However, since people are less likely to claim a prompt if they see that it's already claimed (or already claimed by ten people!), please don't claim anything that you don't have a serious intention of finishing in time for reveals. If you decide you're not going to be able to finish a prompt you claimed, please go back to the prompt and click "drop claim" to take your name off of it.

If I claim a prompt, does it mean that no one else can?

Nope, prompts can be claimed by more than one person, so don't worry about that. They won't disappear if you claim them! That also means there's no rush, and you can think about it before you put in a claim. Because this challenge is anonymous, no one will know who has claimed each prompt.

Can I claim more than one prompt?

Yes, absolutely! Though again, please only claim a prompt if you have a serious intention of finishing that fanwork.

How do I post my fanwork once it's done?

Once you're finished making your gorgeous and amazing fanwork (you hero you!) go back to the prompt you claimed and click on "fulfill." That will take you to a Post New Work AO3 page with the info already pre-filled for this collection.

What if the fanwork I end up making isn't quite the same as the original prompt?

A prompt-fest isn't like an exchange; while you're making things in response to what people are asking for, you're not making a gift for one specific person. So you don't have to worry as much about sticking to the prompt exactly. The goal is just to use prompts to inspire more fanworks, so whatever you've made is fine! However, if you are pretty far off-prompt, please indicate that in the notes or the tags on your fanwork so the person who prompted it originally knows that you took it in a different direction. See also the Adherence to Prompts section in the Rules below.

When can I post my fanwork?

Anytime starting August 25th, you can start posting fanworks. They will be invisible to everyone else until the reveals date, when everyone can see what everyone else has made. Then they will be anonymous until a week after that. But you're welcome to claim a prompt, post a fanwork, come back and claim another prompt, post another fanwork, and so on. You can also claim several off the top and work on them simultaneously; whatever works for you.

Do I need an AO3 account to play?

Yes.

Rules:

Deadlines:

The fest will open for prompts on Sunday, August 11th. The prompt period will remain open for two weeks, until Sunday, August 25th.

Once the prompt period closes, people can start claiming prompts and creating fanworks! You can post fanworks up until October 13th at midnight EST (ish).

Fanworks will be revealed (but still anonymous!) on October 14th (Thanksgiving Day).

Creator names will be revealed one week later, on October 21st.

Size of Fanworks:

Fics should be at least 1000 words.
Podfics should be of fics that are at least 1000 words.
Art should be finished pieces (whatever that means for you, don't worry too much about it)
Vids should be whatever length you want because you're making a vid set in the winter with almost no winter footage, wow
Other kinds of fanworks are at your discretion, but contact the mod if you're unsure!

Adherence to Prompts:

When making prompts, you are welcome to be as specific and detailed as you like, but bear in mind that this isn't an exchange: creators might be inspired by your prompt but take it in a bit of a different direction. If you're a creator, and you're deviating from the original prompt in a significant way, please indicate that in the tags or notes to your fanwork.
