Summary
There was something missing to him, to his dear beloved Frodo, and Sam did not see him, was not allowed to see him—for truly, who does he think he is to demand such things—but Sam saw it clearly all the same: by the time he finally made it to his lovers side, Frodo was dead.
Frodo dies on the way to Rivendell. The Elves turn back time to prevent this.
And Sam, who would not leave him, learns how they do it. -

Summary
“He’s beautiful,” Frodo breathes, his voice like vapours in Sam’s head, like sweet-smelling fumes and it feels poisonous, to have Frodo speak like this, plastered against Sam and so burning hot it drives him mad, rank and putrid and only pinned because he allows himself to be. Pernicious with his very presence.
Sam wants to shake him, wants to throw him off and be rid of him, wants to leave the oily-grease feeling behind and look at his son without these words echoing through him, without Frodo’s madness. But it is too late for that, far too late, and he himself must be mad for returning, for always returning.
“Don’t speak of him,” Sam says, begs, and Frodo purrs, the sound unnatural and off-putting but it feels good against him, Frodo’s chest vibrating oddly as he moulds his body against Sam, as he goes soft in his hands.
After triumphing against Evil and returning the Shire, Sam searches for peace.

Summary
Maybe it's true what they say and you can never really return home.
Frodo, for his part, is close enough to be happy.
