When soulmates meet eyes with one another for the first time, their eyes take on one another’s color. Luke and Aemond have worn one another’s eyes for longer than Luke can remember—or, at least, they did until that fateful night on Driftmark. After he cut out Aemond’s left eye, Luke’s own left eye returned to the color it was before they’d first seen one another, serving as a daily reminder of what he did to his uncle and soulmate. After that, Luke was certain that any chance he and Aemond had ever had of being betrothed was lost.
A raven from King’s Landing changes all of that.
A dragon was freedom made flesh as much as it was fire; no one would be able to stop Aemond from visiting Dragonstone whenever it pleased him, and no one could protest he was not a fit match for Lucerys.
Lucerys, who was a bastard, and who was five years his junior, and whose eyes Aemond had worn by then longer than he'd ever had his own.
