Summary
The Golden Deer—they could have been friends, once. They were almost friends, once. But Lysithea turned away from Leicester, left for the chance at change. The Alliance will never again be her home. Her countrymen’s blood staining her hands forbids it.
This is the price of war, and it never gets any easier to bear. Corpses ahead and behind, grief in their wake. It’s death in service of a brighter future, a better future, one free of the shackles of the past—a future where her parents can live on in peace, no matter what happens to her.
Not everyone she’s known will get to see it.
