Work Text:

When he woke to the new world and saw her lying in bed beside him, he didn’t know if he had come back to the future, or gone straight to heaven.

Six months later, he still had to pinch himself sometimes to believe it was true.

“I can’t imagine a world where I’m not with you like this,” she tells him, curling further into his embrace.

“Wasn’t a pretty place, sweetheart,” he replies, fingers running through her hair as she pillows her head on his chest.

“I’m glad the professor could help you with your other memories,” she says then, hand creeping up to move over his hair and face. “Seemed all wrong for you not to recall the important things. Our first kiss, our first time.”

He leans down then, unable to bear not kissing her for a moment longer. He likes those memories too, he feels them as clearly as the rest since Charles helped him access them.

The old memories won’t fade though. They come back to him in nightmares that scare Marie even more than him, but she promised him the first time she was going nowhere. She never had nor never would let him down.
