Summary
“Do you have any romantic bone in your body?” When he shook his head no, she exclaimed. “Once again, boring!”
Having had enough, Schroeder set down his beer bottle to look at her fully. “Just because we don’t have the same interests and goals doesn’t mean I’m boring.”
Lucy conceded, softening. “Yeah, I know. And I love you for being the sarcastic weirdo Beethoven freak you are. But I also want to see you get out there and experience this city. Like, did you know that there’s a jazz bar in Midtown that’s also a library! There’s a flower shop in Soho that turns into a fortune teller’s booth by night! There’s a record shop three blocks away that has a sleepy cat that lies in between the Rock and Indie section. There’s a whole world out there, Schroeder!”

Summary
Lucy Van Pelt spent eleven years convinced she and Schroeder were meant to be. He spent those years wishing she’d leave him alone. Junior year of high school, she finally did. She apologized, toasted to change, and walked away.
Now they’re sophomores in college. Schroeder’s at Roselyn Conservatory, but he can’t connect with the music anymore. His playing is technically perfect but emotionally dead. It's been taking its toll on him. When his mom threatens to pull him out unless he starts “actually living his life,” and Lucy needs to make her ex jealous, fake dating seems like the perfect solution.
Except Schroeder’s never dated anyone. And he can’t stop noticing things about Lucy he swears he never paid attention to before. The way she laughs. How his chest stops hurting when she’s around. The fact that the music only comes back when he’s thinking about her. He tells himself it’s not feelings. But he’s running out of ways to lie to himself about what that means.

Summary
Do you know that shivering sensation that arises when a presence touches the air around you, not with hands, but with a vibration that shifts the world for an instant? As if the universe were breathing deeper just to register that two destinies have just met.
Schroeder didn't know this feeling until the autumn of 1990, when he saw Lucy in the middle of a labyrinth, lost among laughter, dry leaves, and the cold wind that played with her red scarf.
After years of trying to leave her in the past, he realizes certain feelings, long dormant, awaken with the same voracity as the first time.
