I accept the apology. Because this is as painful as it is pure beauty. I love "Eternal sunshine..." and the concept of erasing someone. I mean, I don't think it would be a good thing to have that in real life, but the reasonings behind undergoing such a severe treatment make up for good storytelling. So I'm kinda baffled how awesome this story is, that only deals with the fallout of things. I like how restless Brittany is. Taking jobs like she wants to, not sticking for very long. It seems that the only constant in her life maybe was Santana. And with her so completely gone from her mind, there is nothing left to focus on for long. Because Brittany can do anything she wants to, but the only thing she really wanted was Santana for most of her life. Like a slap to the face. I guess it was a very bad break-up, with all the crying she remembers. The inner child that cried may have been soothed by her best friend, but in the end Santana was the reason to cry. But maybe the decision to erase Santana was still mostly spontaneous, emotional pain drove her to the extreme. As for Santana... oh God, she can't even communicate properly! I can't decide if the images she draws are haunting her as images in her head or are dictated by her feelings, her love for Brittany that could never be erased, because it's more than memories. Puck's comment makes it all so much worse. Britt was her life! So maybe the procedure did work the only way it could. To take Britt from her, Santana herself had to be destroyed. Getting her back without any part of Brittany - impossible.
Let me imagine a small silver lining in which there will doctors who get excited by the case itself that Santana gets her very own rehab. So by the time she turns 40 she will be able to talk, that she can reach at least a childlike level again. And now that Brittany has met her again, she will never forget. And one day they will meet. Not on totally equal terms, but connect on an emotional level... somehow... *sob*
wow, that is an impressive amount of headcanon :p. I'm glad that you took what I meant from Puck's comment! I wasn't sure whether to be more or less subtle with it, but it looks like I hit a pretty good balance.
I'm also glad that you were struck by how restless Brittany is! I hope it puts her decision - though she doesn't remember it - to go through with the procedure into some kind of perspective: she's very much a creature of whimsy, which would certainly be one of the factors contributing to her choice.
I definitely didn't want to write the story of how they fell apart, so I'm glad that just focusing on the fallout of what happened after worked for you.
I hope you enjoy your interpretation of what happens next :)
Thank you for reading and for leaving such an awesome comment!
