As far as I remember this might not be the same necklace he gave him to Uhura because that was a Vulcan stone.. and you said it was on another planet too... Earth ;)
Hahaha, actually, the other planet isn't earth. It's another desert planet, which is required for it to form. And no, it isn't the necklace from Beyond, since this never belonged to his mom, it's just one she gave to him. But it is indeed a kinda sorta reference to that, and the implications surrounding him giving it to Uhura. So I'm just being a writing nerd over here, with all my Symbolism and Foreshadowing and ooooh look at these shiny Parallels and Easter Eggs that few people will even notice. xD
