Comment on Releases 0.9.462 - 0.9.468: Change Log

  1. I'm pretty sad that there's now "officially" no support for publishing user-created skins - it would have been a nice way to allow for community-building on AO3 and I wish some resources had been dedicated to making it sustainable, even if it meant going back to the drawing board for the feature.

yeah, when they started mentioning that, i was hoping they actually made it so users could post their site skins.. :[
mine looks really cool and i'm sure a lot of people's look cool too so it would be nice

It seems like we can post them as works, but theres not a "fandom" for them. it looks like all the "fandoms" i would consider a good fit for this have not been marked as common yet.

having a fandom tag would probably be the best way, itd allow for easy finding + filtering by other fandoms. Of course then there is the friction of people needing to figure out the steps to apply a skin instead of one click, which could make people not interested.

i don't think it needs to be a fandom tag (site skins could relate to any actual fandoms or none, just like any fanart and other art), but the freeform tags could use getting canonized. there are around 350 works tagged with "site skin" right now
