First off, let me just say that this comment ticked into my inbox in the break during one of the seminars I was teaching yesterday, and by the time I'd finished reading it I was GRINNING SO BADLY I COULDN'T STOP, which prompted more than a few strange looks from the students I was supposed to be teaching.
But oh my god, this comment!! I'm the one who's deceased here! This is just so wonderful, and YOU are wonderful, and I'm so glad you like this fic, and my take on Shanks' crew. I know I take some liberties, since we don't know much about them other than the few tidbits we see of their interaction in canon, and so it made my day to hear this <3
And I'm especially thrilled that you liked the exploration of Yasopp. I would go to war for the neglected mothers of One Piece, and I've always had a soft spot for Banchina. And I just really loved the idea that Usopp's knack for sharpshooting came from both his parents, and his mother being the one to teach him after his father left. Ugh, just give me all the resourceful, enduring mothers, they are my bread and butter.
Thank you so, so much for this! My weekend was off to a rough start nursing a work hangover, but this gave me so many good feelings, and such a boost to write <3
(and oh I am c a c k l i n g reading your comments on the sea shanty. I had so much fun writing it, and trying to figure out just how many nautical terms and phrases could be taken as euphemisms)
(the answer is: a lot; clearly, Shanks made the right choice in terms of profession)
