yeah but i worry the reason we've reached 18 million so quickly is because of people posting ai-generated works. it's not the majority of new works but it's a noticeable number of them. idk for sure though
As someone who writes fanfiction because I love writing, it just makes me sad, especially when people use ai and try to pass off that work as their own instead of tagging ai which I've seen before unfortunately, and it doesn't help either that ai writes like fanfiction sometimes because ao3 has been scraped multiple times to train these models.
I do know there are still many people who write their own works and I'm glad for it (I guess I'm just lucky the fandom I'm in isn't too oversaturated yet), so I hope the people who do write can keep writing just for the sake and fun of it and readers can appreciate the hard work they put into writing when they could easily just ask ai to spit out some low quality stuff
ikr, i keep seeing ads for people to AI generate their own work. like theres a whole app for it and its honestly disgusting since writing is literally art
