    I don't think there's any official AO3 post about the syn-searching process, but some individual wranglers have talked about it! Here's a comment I made with more details a while back.

    You can use the tag search yourself to figure out details like, there's 3 pages of No Fandom freeforms just for "sex self harm". You can probably already think of a bunch of other ways to word it. And even adding them all together, that's a relatively small/rare concept compared to some of the other new canonicals -- there are 22 pages of results for "self care". So you can see why it takes a while for the syn-searching team to look through every single one.

    (I don't actually know which canonicals are being worked on right this minute. And that's not the kind of fiddly little detail AO3 would be making public announcements about anyway. But in general, all these new-canonicals-update posts say to wait until "at least three months from now" to ask about specific syns, that tells you wranglers are still chugging through the canonicals from at least three posts ago.)
