    wattpad has had "content written primarily for sexual arousal" banned (what smut often is; along with more specific stuff like "glorified" non-con and "illegal" sex acts) and "explicit sexual content that supports the story and isn't its main purpose" allowed for years. recently they updated their rules to simplify their phrasings (without actually changing what's allowed), attracting attention to them, which made many wattpad users who didn't previously remember the rules think the rules are new

        To be precise, they changed the wording of the rules without changing the substance, but it stayed as vague as before, leaving a lot of room for interpretation. Many Wattpad users fear arbitrary rulings and uncommented deletion of their works as we've seen with previous purges on Tumblr and FF.net happening. Some on AO3, on the other hand, are afraid of an influx of former Wattpad members who might arrive here without knowing what they get themselves into and treating their new home like it's their old one - but so far, I haven't seen many reports on according incidents happening, at least not at an unusually high rate.
