That is one approach we've discussed, although as Diamond_Raven notes below, the number of works we'd have to check each day makes automated processes preferable to manual ones.
Yes, I do realize that something like Akismet in wordpress would be ideal, and that the number of stories that would have to be moderated --especially in the early days, before spammers realized they were being blocked-- would be a major stumbling block. I just figured that it would be an option for those legitimate users who want to read the stories that are marked as restricted without posting. IDK, maybe a two-tier subscription system where you can read restricted stories (and maybe comment in those that have anonymous reviews disabled) but not post, and one for people who want to contribute, eventually with an update path for those in the passive mode to shift to the active one? Sorry, I know I keep butting in, and I know you are busy, but I love the site, and I really wish I could help!
