Funny you should mention Littlefinger and the Northerners! I just got finished writing him in that direction.
Remember, Jon has already foreseen himself on Dragonstone petting Drogon. While yes, she'll play more of a politicking role, she will have some input about the other thing.
She's soon to head out of the North herself. A very different journey than canon yes, but she's not sitting up freezing her ass off waiting for him, knitting prayer wheels. She's got a lot that needs to be done to prepare Jon for what will change his life. You'll see that more in the next chapter.
