NANCYYYYYYY!!!!! How long has it been since I yelled praises at you?! I'm so fucking thrilled this is back!
The scene with Martha was absolutely exquisite. Every bit. Martha mentioning his almost need for regeneration, the 'title drop', Rose saying she'd still love the Doctor if they were a woman. UGH. <3<3 And then the Nine 'save the world' parallels. You're killin me.
The library! The two of them completely forgetting Tim is there. John talking about finding a corner and dancing... I'm over here expecting nice civil proper John. I should have known better.
You have captured Tim in a way I don't think I've ever read before. It's clear, exhilarating, and dear God the Doctor's words are heart breaking.
The last scene though. What a roller-coaster. You're brilliant. That it all.
Oh man, I love that opening scene. I really wanted to highlight that Martha’s slightly antagonistic attitude wasn’t just jealousy.
It’s funny... this was for a prompt, and the prompter mentioned Rose being uncertain when she started to fall for John because she’s with the Doctor. I’ve read that premise in so many Human Nature fics, and it makes for great tension and conflict... but it doesn’t fit my personal headcanon for Rose. So I had to tweak the prompt a little, but in this scene, I still got to show someone not understanding that John is the Doctor. It just wasn’t Rose.
Ahhhh the library. I think what I love most about Human Nature with Rose is how it increases the memory bleed-through. Like Rose thought after their kiss, he remembers being with her. I love that instinct and habit coming out even when he’s still fobbed.
Tim is one of my favourite minor characters. I wanted to dive a little more into his part of TISAF, but I try to keep POV characters down to the TARDIS travellers in that series. So it was a lot of fun to really explore his personality here! And of course, this scene being a month or so after the canon scene, he’s changed a little.
Oh, the Doctor’s plea. I wanted him to be more specific—that if Rose had the watch, the Family would smell Bad Wolf. But that one sentence had 3 terms Tim wouldn’t understand, so I kept it simple. “Keep Rose safe.”
YES!! The best thing about canon divergence is diverging from canon. I’m very excited for how my version of the final confrontation will go.
