I really like how instead of going with the usual route for this type of story and telling it from the POV of the person repeating the day, instead we're getting to experience the final loop from the POV of the people who help fix it; it makes for a very different reading experience. Looking forward to the next chapter.
Some of my favorite shows are the ones that take those old sci fi tropes and then do a different take on them. I was trying to think of how to make the time loop different, and I thought someone else's POV might be fun. I'm so glad it works for you!
:D I absolutely love works that take a trope, or some sort of story that's been told a dozen times before, and then... sort of turn it thirty degrees counterclockwise, just to see what happens. For example, my favorite Cinderella story is the Ella Enchanted novel (not the film! Anne Hathaway is great, but not even she could salvage that script with all the ill-advised changes made to it), and I've read nearly every book by Vivian Vande Velde including some of the ones technically intended for middle-schoolers (her collection of a dozen different short story versions of Rumplestiltskin were fabulous). So a time loop from the POV of one or more people who help break it instead of the person trapped in it is completely right up my alley. Plus, I just plain like stories with time loops, time travel, parallel realities, y'know... stuff that sort of bends the laws of physics without actually breaking them.
Have you read any Robin McKinley? She does really cool fairytale retellings. Her novel Beauty: A Beauty and the Beast Retelling is a lot more traditional than Ella Enchanted, but it's one of my favorite books. Spindle's End and Rose Daughter (Sleeping Beauty and Beauty and the Beast [yes, again] respectively) twist the fairy tale more, but I like them less. Also, Fire and Hemlock, by Diane Wynne Jones, is a great Tam Lin. I'M SORRY YOU SAID FAIRY TALES AND MY HEART EXPLODED. I didn't like the Ella Enchanted movie either, but I'm not a huge fan of the book. Anywhoodle, my icon is from Deerskin, which is another fairy tale retelling by Robin McKinley. It is considerably different from the fairy tale, but no one cares about that fairy tale anyway. I do like the movie Ever After though. As ridiculous as it is, I just have this Cinderella thing.
I haven't read any Robin McKinley yet that I can remember. I'm going to look into finding some of her books the next time I'm at the library, though (and/or possibly seeing which are available for Kindle). Diane Wynne Jones! Thank you for reminding me that I *still* haven't gotten around to reading Howl's Moving Castle; I need to do that once I finish my exams for the term. Re: fairy tales: have you ever heard of Zel by Donna Jo Napoli? I read that one in high school, and seem to remember enjoying it, but I've yet to encounter any of that author's other works personally. And no big if you weren't a fan of the Ella Enchanted book, either; different strokes for different folks and all that. I know I've read more Cinderella versions, but I can't recall the rest off the top of my head. Right now, I'm more mourning that Tamora Pierce's latest trilogy is over, and working my way through Terry Pratchet's Discworld series in no particular order.
