Comment on The Midnight Club of Two (no, Three!)

  1. So it's 3AM, there's people sleeping and I'm trying my hardest to not burst out laughing at the ongoing dialogue between Tokoyamo and Dark Shadow. There's more comedic timing in his internal dialogue than most comedians have in a live performance.

As a sucker for Mido/Toko content myself, I'm grateful that there are other authors still writing for this little rarepair ship. I really enjoy how you portray the three characters - Dark Shadow is very much his own entity and I like how he acts as this translator without a filter for whatever Tokoyami is thinking - It's also great to see an interpretation of the pair that really highlights how lonely Dark Shadow and Tokoyami are. It's not something many authors choose to explore with the characters and you're doing a wonderful job here.

Midoriya, as well, has this lovely sense of forwardness that a lot of writers don't often go for. People tend to forget he's not just this shy mumbling type, he can be quite expressive and casual, even down to earth despite his ramblings and you capture that brilliantly. As much as I'm interested in Tokoyami's perspective, Midoriya as a character is just as good.

I will say though, the whole plot-point of Tokoyami having a literal day from Hell as far as his mental state goes, that's relatable as all heck. I think everyone's been there and having a Quirk that's ever-present probably makes it even worse. Can't wait for a next update, whenever it may happen!

    1. Hey dude! Thank you for the comment-and such a long one too!

This chapter took quite a bit of time to write and edit, but I feel like it was totally worth it. One of the most enjoyable things to write was the dialogue between Tokoyami and Dark Shadow, so I'm glad that translated well!

I could spend a bit of time explaining what makes these characters so great to explore, but that almost goes without saying. Tokoyami, despite his spotlight in the Sport Festival Arc, is a criminally underrated character that deserves any and all development given to him. Midoriya, who is the certified Most Likeable Shonen Protagonist in History, has a lot of attention in the fandom, but is interesting enough to have heaps of interpretations. Dark Shadow is simply...Dark Shadow. Enough said.

I'll say it again, thank you for the detailed comment. One of the best compliments a writer can receive is somebody go into detail on why they enjoy the read. I have no idea on when the next chapter will come, especially as I'll be packed with uni exams later this month. I do have an outline in my head though, so this fic is far from dead.

      Cheers,
      -V
(P.S-I also really enjoy your fics too so I'm lowkey fanboying over this comment, don't mind me.)
