It's heavy on the angst. I continue to use the theme of the impact of neglectful and emotional abuse throughout the series, and Harry's recovery is very slow indeed. However, the other fics in the series aren't quite so constantly heavy with angst, just FYI.
The psychological impact of the abuse suffers in canon, or even *less* of it like here, I felt was underestimated and not lingered on enough in canon, so it's one of the themes of the series. Growing up unloved, neglected, overworked, and starved isn't so easily shrugged off.
