Ha ha! Thank you. This chapter was really long for a snapshot and went through several revisions before I just said, "You know, I give up. Hopefully they'll like it for what it is." So it really encourages me to know that you enjoyed the heart of the story despite it's flaws. It was really fun writing a good old fashioned hurt/comfort story, and Molly is always a treat. As you said, he really is a caretaker, I think. There are so many little moments in canon of him keeping an eye on Caleb in a fight and looking after the well being of others, like Toya. I just figured he wouldn't be able to help himself from adopting a couple of suffering people he found on the side of the road. And, of course, Yasha has proven herself to be a steady support.
I had to give Caleb the coat. There's this delightful fanart of him wearing Molly's coat, looking bewildered and kind of vulnerable, like someone dropped it over his shoulders and he's trying to figure out why. It's symbolic of taking care of people, clothing them, right? And Caleb being able to insist on keeping it in the end rather than feeling guilty for having it, that seemed like a good way to show fundamental character development in a small way.
I love Nott so much. She is so obviously committed to Caleb ("Are we picking buddies? Because I pick Caleb."), but I do think there's plenty of evidence that she is a being apart in Caleb's mind, fundamentally significant to him in ways that circumvents all his walls. I'm actually kind of hoping we get to see Liam express that in an upcoming episode. He clearly wants to, with the way the last episode went, so here's hoping the narrative allows for a big show of love and commitment!
As always, thank you for your thoughts! I love reading them.
