I, too, saw the Battle of Five Armies last night. In addition to the events of the story, Billy Boyd's song is enough to shatter me into emotional fragments. I enjoyed this story. Loved the way Ninon had cleverly forced the recluse out of hiding for his own good as well as for a good cause, then supplied him with not only one, but two delectable options. My favorite way of imagining her relationship with Athos is the one you have developed - that they have known each other forever and are friends. I love the idea that she and Athos have known each other for ages and are friends, if not lovers. It's my favorite way to enjoy their relationship. Aramis would be so adorable in a date auction. He'd flirt with the audience, preen and be irresistible. Porthos would, naturally, stand guard to be certain his lover didn't fall into the wrong hands so to speak. To paraphrase Rick in Casablanca, I hope it's the beginning of a beautiful friendship.
Every time I listen to "The Last Goodbye" I start crying. It was sad enough just because of the film, but then ComeHither decided we should play it before she went home, and now I'm doubly an emotional wreck whenever it plays! Ninon is one of my favorite characters to slip into a fic, she's so lovely and such a good friend to Athos. After all, look who she picked out for him ;) I'm sure Athos will have a wonderful time on his date(s).
