Ahh. Nah, I'd never seen that movie- the title is a reference to the idea of living a life reincarnated into a world with all of your previous memories, including your memory of dying.
Functionally, you are dead. The you that was is, in fact, dead, despite the fact that you are still that you and also the present, reborn version of yourself.
When you die and are reborn, you are, in essence, waking up dead, because who you were is still dead even while you're living.
The implications of reincarnation are screwy as hell and by their very nature, pretty damaging to anyone subjected to them, which is what this work is about.
